Making a Japanese Tool Box - Hand Tools Only - Forme Industrious

- Working around serious cabinet makers, wood workers for the last few months has made me want to make something slightly technical, well in terms of joinery. The Challenge was to use hand tools only! Pffffttt!
I love the style of this little Japanese Box with its locking wedge. I have no drawings for this. I just made it freeform. Made from American Walnut using hand powered tools only. No Fasteners either. First for me :) and I really enjoyed this build.
Thanks for watching

I greatly admire your effort to make this with hand tools only. It's a real challenge and "risk", but so rewarding. Thanks for sharing!!👍🏁
Thanks again!
I've watched this about 3 times.. Really enjoyed it watching you work..
Thank you! It was a fun build and I use this box all the time.
never apologize for video imperfections, background noise adds to authenticity a great video as always.
I think Aden was enjoying his part way too much. 🤣😂
The box turned out great and that wood butter really brings out the grain off the walnut.
This is an awesome build the fact that u can even cut that straight with a hand saw down the length of the board is amazing
Thanks Pete!
Ryoba are amazing saws. They cut very very straight if you pull straight, so you can't correct much once you're going. The maebiki nokogiri is used for planking tree trunks.
The cuts would have been faster if you could stand square to the cut and use both hands.
Good for you.....Mr Scott
I had so much fun watching u guys. congratz!
You can feel the wonderful woodworking table and time. It’s a beautiful video
beautiful
gorgeous mate
Bellissima scatola in stile giapponese, realizzata con attrezzi manuali.
hai dimostrato di avete una gran padronanza e maestria bravo👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
“Hand tools only” LOL. Reminds me when I was 13 and told my Mom I was only going to wear dresses to school that year. I got cold in January (US) and asked for jeans and socks.
:) I don't know how dresses could be allowed in winter. Your right, power tools all the way. Thanks LG
Those American Walnut pieces had some serious sound in them when they dropped to the floor. Great little box. Another work of art!!!
👍🐯👍I like how you finished that rip cut. Its the last little bit that can become a nuisance.
That is a fabulous build!
Thank you Nick!
Hats off to anyone willing to do that much hand work on American Walnut. If it were me, the hand-slap from Aden would have been returned with a punch in the jaw and I'd have finished it up on the power tools. ;)
It's wonderful how things work out. The reality of long tedious rip cuts ensured the existence of apprentices and thus the craft lived on.
Always the apprentice I am : ) Thanks Paul!
Really well done!
Thank you!
Wow, that walnut really popped! Great build. Now I wonder how we ever got by without Japanese saws.
You definitely know your woodworking with hand tools - great video, thanks
Thanks Tony!
Beautiful 👍👍😎👍👍
Thanks Joel!
It’s always harder to do a “simple” project than you first think, great job and perseverance.
The five most feared words in my family, "How hard would it be......."
Very good
The ability to learn new techniques and skills and turn that into art it what makes a craftsman, and you sir are one
Nice job Scott 👍
Thank you!
Nice Build....
Bonus points for the self launching board....
more bonus points for the Hand tool/ Power tool Struggle.... It is real....
Yes Very nice Build!
Real it was, but at least I didn't have to spit or saw through a whole log like in the old days. Thanks Bill!
Patience of a saint well done Scott
You covered the thoughts that go through my head so well when I get the idea to do a hand tools only project. Soon as I get to ripping a board... I start looking for the power tools! Haha...
Great looking little toolbox.
It's not a bandsaw, it's an apprentice!
Thanks for sharing a joy to watch that box was all hand made 😎 🇺🇸✌🏽
Thanks Rich!!
The simplistic beauty of the design and the quality of the build brings a tear to the eye.
Gosh, Thanks! Great complement!
Super 👍👍
Beautiful job Scott. It’s good to have friends willing to hold you accountable, unnerving though that they find so much pleasure slapping your hand... Darlington, South Carolina USA
Thanks William, all for making some variation in the video :)
I see Scott Turner, and I immediately like. 👍🏻
Loved your perseverance as well as the final product. That being said, you really should go and have a look at This old Tony - he really knows how to get stock down to size by using just his hands and some science. Wizardry I tell you...
Haha, yes I know, a click of the fingers. Thanks Ding bat
The wood butter really pops the grain, fabulous finish.
It's a nice product. thank you!

Great banter and box :)
Enjoyed watching this and the bit of humor was great. I don't know if I have ever made something completely with hand tools except in Jr. High shop class.
Love the romance of hand tool work but bugger that for a game of soldiers, give me power tools every time lol
Love the outtakes
Beautiful job Scott

Nice execution on joints for your "pencil" box. Never worked with Mango, will have to try it. Very soothing sound when you were planing it.Enjoyed this construction project. Thanks.

Penguji kesabaran ,, mantab
saya setuju dengan kamu
Just stumbled upon this, brilliant vid! subbed!
Huge thankyou!!
nicely done. i think the instructive thing here is how under appreciated the skills and time and patience needed to actually make things by hand are. very easy to churn things out with power tools, but that's production, not craft.
Spot on, thank you!
Awesome job mate, working with hand tools gives you a sense of pride .
Well done the box turned out spectacular . (:
Great hand job, top skills you have there.
Thank you for all your awesome comments!! I appreciate the feedback.
