I never understood why my dad was a Republican until my mid 20s
Dawg, I realized it as soon as I hit 18.
I remember I didn't have political beliefs really when I went into college. I would have voted Republican but I didn't really care that much one way or another. When I entered college I saw how everyone who was lazy at studying and got bad grades were the same people saying college should be free, while the other people worked hard jobs.
One example was this woman who was an EMT technician who went back to study nursing. She never whined and the only reason I knew about her job was that me and her wound up on a group project.
The other reason is the professors. The professors. I found there were two different ones. The ones that told you what to think and the ones that gave you hard work that would force you to learn to think. The ones that told me what to think were either the weak ineffectual teachers who taught the left's bull just because they wanted to be left alone, but I had a few who were actually full blown Socialists who would force their students to at the very least say America's culture is corrupt and Christianity is corrupt. Then there were the professors that gave hard work. Those teachers actually had backbone, and I could tell. Students would snicker behind their backs and they would take it on the chin and keep doing their job and do it right.
I don't know why I felt like sharing all of this. Its not like my experience is probably that unique. I guess I just felt like getting it off my chest. Either way thanks for reading this essay of a comment.

I was just saying that in general the best role models were people who didn't shove Left wing ideology down your throat or use it as an excuse for their actions. Back in the eighties I probably would have said the reverse about Right wing people shoving their ideology down my throat during the Satanic Panic and the post Cold War obsession with getting rid of the remnants of Communism.
Right now the Left is the one that holds cultural power and they use it to force their opinions onto others. If me saying that is bad makes me self righteous, then fine I'm self righteous.

But the thing is, he's wrong. When you look at the actual numbers, you see that welfare is a very small part of the budget. Right off the bat, close to 50% of the budget is military. That's crazy! Shelter Pet actually yes, I used to think that money should’ve been transferred to college kids and that everybody should have money spread around like this was a communist system, until I STARTED WORKING. My first serious job was at Menards when I was 16, when I got my first paycheck I was completely baffled. I was supposed to be earning $650 for the 2 weeks that I worked, it turns out that I only earned $505 for those two weeks due to taxes. I know that not everybody is going to have these experiences but it’s changed me and my political spectrum as far as money wise. If America were to go socialist and complete communist we would be stuck in another complete depression for years.

I’m sure you already know but there’s many socialist countries by preference. Here, in America we only debate about either extreme. All or nothing.

Therefore I became Republican and conservative, I don’t agree with everything that Trump does or the Republican party do example their policy towards Israel and Palestine, and that’s the policy of the Democratic Party to both of them are for Israel and Zionism. But I agree with 80% of the republican party platform when it comes to the family to homosexuality to abortion to the economy etc. etc.

It's likely (though I have no hard "proof"..and I admit it on this point) that 95 percent of "border-concerned" Americans are merely concerned with tax dollars spent on non-citizens...rather than racial fears or bias. I just want to see real journalism and real policy debates. But I respect your response👍

He’s basing his opinions off of facts and anyone who disagrees with it because of that is just arguing for the sake of arguing because it happens to be based on Trump. When i got my first paycheck I literally asked "can I opt out of social security?" I assumed a smart government program would allow people to opt in or out, instead of making a decision for one generation and every other that is supposed make financial sense and last indefinitely. Of course, it's essentially broken now. Forced savings into a 401k would be much better. Should have privatized it years ago. I earned it, I want control over it.

@JRG2733 This all seems very reasonable. I am self employed, so I pay the full, whatever 12 or 13 percent into SS. It's impossible to know the impact on the average employee who pays 6%, whether employees would receive more pay if the employer didn't have to pay the other half of SS. Anyhow, it's nice that with SS there is no worry about market fluctuations, but as we get older, we are supposed to rebalance our portfolios to control for that. I'm 80% stocks, my father who just retired is 40% stocks.
It just seems to me that even if we were forced to put in 6% into a pension or 401k and the employers were forced to match that the end result over 30 years would be much greater. The market does return an average of about 7% a year, and this isn't just 7 percent in the good years, it accounts for the crashes. Plus, this system may help to add stability to the markets. Just a thought.
The problem is when those that would choose to opt out that aren't thinking about the negative things that can happen such as an ailment that is debilitating and/or disabling. Even allowing opting out the person thus affected would instead be living off of the generosity of those that do pay the taxes. While they would not qualify for Social Security they would still get SSI and then by default since it isn't a very large amount they qualify for medicaid living off of the sweat of everyone else.
Tell Americans something will never happen, and we'll make it happen.

Trump has done pretty well throughout this crisis, blocking travel and providing resources to governors whenever they needed it. Many of the deaths can be associated with the policies of Cuomo and Murphy in NY and NJ, respectively, where old folks with the virus were sent back into the care homes where they spread the virus to more old folks. Other than that, it's nobodies fault that so many people died. (And if we are being honest 100000 deaths is pretty small for the amount of economic damage we have taken. it amounts to 0.03% of the US population and we are suffering 14% unemployment for it.)
