I code computers for a living and electrical engineering just bores me to learn. I'm glad I learned this though because neurofeedback is so interesting
Thanks, I put an annotation for corrections after this was noted a month or two ago, however TH-cam is doing away with annotations slowly, so not sure if it is showing up anymore or not.
The value of mistakes is not measured in non-mistakes, Thomas. Are you suggesting that we should just ignore false information if it's among true information?
When you make a mistake like that, it could lead people to think "well, if this guy is not even able to talk correctly about measurements in basics of electric systems, I can't trust him". Fortunately, this video really helps me to understand easily the basics of EEG systems (after some sources verifications ;), so thank you Cody :)
1,000 things go into making a video like this. People wonder how typos make it into major publications until they make something themselves. Without an editor for review of my videos, mistakes will inevitably be made. Thanks for everyone's understanding on this.
Dr, can you discuss some of the potential dangers of these if they are used for other than what they are marketed for. Someone potentially gathering brainwave readings and using them in a nefarious way. What about low frequency transmission and these devices. Can you make a video relating to these issues. The fingerprint of the brain, can it be manipulated, altered, or any other option for malicious intent?
It would be interesting to take a look at potential dangers. I think they are low but it's not a bad idea for a video to assuage fear with the technology. Thanks for the comment!
Please please answer . Can I hock this device to an ardiuno to collect the information detected patterns and use the data ?? If not how I'm supposed to use this device data's ?
Thanks for the explanation Cody, very informative and useful. I'm looking to integrate one of these into an app, but before I choose which one I want to potentially partner with, I want your opinion. Thinking as a consumer, if you could only use one of the 3, which one would you choose and why?
Thanks for the clear video, Dr. Rall! Do you happen to have more details about these devices (e.g. Neurosky), including the internal block diagram, the relevant voltage and frequency ranges, and how the signals are sent to the local host? Where can I find such information, please? This is because the Neurosky is no longer available, but maybe it could be easily replicated. Thanks!
Can we convert the signal whatever we receive from to its origional form?? Like, receiving and delivering to other's brain... It sounds crazy... but please tell me whether we can convert it back to whatever we receive...
Yes there have been rudimentary experiments with direct electrical stimulation of the brain for brain to brain communication. Obviously not a direct translation of the original brainwave pattern, but an approximate starting point :) Transmagnetic Stimulation (TMS) has also been used for brain to brain signaling.
Hi Ravi, are you from Nepal by any chance. I am planning to bring some of these devices to run some experiments. Would be happy to talk further. I did send you a LinkedIn invite. Don't know if it was you or some other person with a similar name..
thanks for the great explanation. actually, I'm trying to make one of these devices as a graduation project, however, I can't seem to find good references. if possible could you recommend some references? preferably contain a simple circuit diagram.
Thank you very much. I have done a lot of researching and gathered most of the things needed. However, I still can't seem to find dry electrodes. anyways, thanks for your videoes it helped me a lot.
Would it be possible for you to use Emotiv sensor tips? You can buy them directly from Emotiv for about $50. You can even disassemble them and get the dry polymer piece to use with another sensor. www.emotiv.com/product-category/accessories/
I will search more to see if I can minimize the price some more. If I couldn't. I will do just as you said. Thanks for the suggestion. I really appreciate your help.
I would start experimenting with MyEMOTIV (free) and consider getting the raw EEG package with EmotivPRO (although it's quite expensive for an individual user)
hey cody just wanna ask, im about to explore EEG as an input device for certain controls in gaming. There's a challenge in those having some form of impairment (those not having full functioning arm to play etc) especially in areas involving pressing and holding down a button for desired amount of seconds. Can the current EEG device like Emotiv Insight handle that with programmable software that translate thought signals into desired keys? It they do, what is the typical latency like from thinking of something to actual action?
Most of these devices are not quite proficient in that yet, however a new company called Neurosity is making progress in programming specific keys with EEG. Perhaps they will have some answers for you neurosity.co
Hey Doc Cody i hope my massage find you well . Sir i am working on EEG device project & I find your expertise very helpful so my question to you is would you like to be involved ? How can i get in touch with you pls ? Kindest regards R-G
Thanks, this is a good summary. Why is it better to use two active electrodes to measure attention on the forehead instead an active and a reference electrode?
In general, the more active electrodes that are placed on the head, the better the spatial resolution. I.E. you can tell where the signals are coming from.
Hello guys, I am looking for a device that can track whole my day and in the night to check the stress level in different parts of the day. Does anyone know something like this?
I think Spire is currently the best option for that. It tracks your breathing patterns throughout the day and extrapolates stress from that. I'll have a video coming out on it soon. www.spire.io
Cody Rall MD with Techforpsych I have ADHD, and I sometimes feel like my mind goes totally blank and thoughts become sluggish, so I'm hypothesizing one of these may exercise my brain waves and increase frontal lobe efficiency.
Hi Dr. Cody, I am planning to do some experiments with monks in Nepal. Would be happy to discuss some portable EEG options. I did send you an email through your website. BTW - if any one is interested in this subject and would like to get involved, please connect with me.
Hey guy! I think emotive is a really great headset and i want to buy it. Can you answer my questions? -If I'm from Spain, what will late to arrive? -What are the shipping costs? -Must I need another application to use it?
Cant psychics put on an eeg headset and read anyones mind, regardless of where they are in the world, and put it on a computer and translate it into words?
Hi Dr. Rall, For ADHD do you recommend emotiv insight or muse? I heard a lot about emotiv epoc but there are very few reviews about emotiv insight. Do you have any suggestion?
Hi Jesus Rod, there are not any specific protocols for ADHD but I think that meditation itself can help with ADHD. The biofeedback/meditation app for Muse is easy to use and has a lot of great guided meditations to use. For that reason I am recommending the Muse at this point, especially for your purposes.
Thank you very much for your answer. What about non meditation side? I mean using game apps that we can use for focus training. (like medical grade devices). I had Neurosky before. It had different kinds of apps and software for that purpose. The only reason I want something more sofisticated is Neurosky mobile had delay reporting and processing data (maybe about 1 second). That makes a little hard to use it for gaming. Does muse have potential to be used for gaming like emotiv insight? Thanks,

Voltage is measured in Volts, not Ohms. Ohms are used to measure resistance. Other than that, great video!
I code computers for a living and electrical engineering just bores me to learn. I'm glad I learned this though because neurofeedback is so interesting
Great, glad you liked it!
Can these devices be used to detect voice to skull, or discovery of remote induction of microwave auditory effect?
I was wondering that too i was also wondering if a psychic wearing an eeg headset could pull information from people and put it on big screen
Why won’t this sell on Amazon anymore? That’s so bizarre to me that I can’t find the Neurosky or an emotiv eeg headset anymore on Amazon.
awesome project
i am still waiting for that moment when I can put my keyboard and mouse in the wardrobe.
great video. Just a little correction, Voltage is measured in Volts, and Resistance in Ohms. (at 5minutes).
Yes, you are right! How silly of me. Please let me know if there are any further mistakes, thank you
'Voltage is measured in ohms'...WTF?
i was confused and thought my knowledge is wrong lmao

cody using muse 1 for few days. i noticed it is analyzing more muscle movements and move signals than brain waves....
Are you moving a lot?
So who would someone contact about it?
Thanks for the detailed video man! Not much out there on this topic.
thanks for the comment!
What is the best?
Depends on your needs. th-cam.com/video/7TtLFllWo8M/w-d-xo.html
Yep. Very good and clear explanation.
yo which would you rate as best? I love my muse but the sensitivity to eye movements does mess with it a bit imo
Great explanation!

What software do you recommend for neuromarketing analysis using Emotiv Insight and Epoc+?
I would start experimenting with MyEMOTIV (free) and consider getting the raw EEG package with EmotivPRO (although it's quite expensive for an individual user)

Voltage is not measured in ohms. Ohms is a measure of resistance.
can we use it for epilepsy patients ??
It could be helpful but I would not use it in place of antiepileptic medication
A combination would be good
@@CodyRallMD thank you for response
Resistance not voltage is measured in ohms
Yes, spoken incorrectly

Thanks man for this video.

At 10:00 ,which video did you recommend ?
Please share the link to me.

which device is the best?
For providers it seems to be the Muse at this point.
what does that mean for providers? Is there a software application for Muse that can compete with what NeurOptimal offers?
Resistance is ohms

Voltage if measured in volts!!
That is very interesting, but how is all this "valuable data" used?
It appears to be just an expensive toy in a non professionals hand.
They are stockpiling data and using machine learning to make new insights towards EEG wavepatterns. I think it's pretty valuable.
Also empowering providers to have clients take the headsets home and establish a healthy habit of meditation
@@CodyRallMD I concur
