I personally think it's OK to keep Viola on as waller. She's a perfect fit for the character. Kinda similar to JK Simmons as JJJ in the Sony Spiderman movies.
Also, she isn't a character that general movie audiences recognize from movie posters and trailers which would confuse them. For that reason supporting actors and roles aren't exactly the same as major leads.
Exactly. Also Alfred in the Burton + Schumacher movies. Also Judi Dench's M. Or the original Q that was in every Bond movie until he died basically. So long as it's not the MAIN character, I don't mind at all.
I don't mind the idea of Viola Davis staying as Waller. I see it as like how Judy Dench stayed on as M for Casino Royale and most people who were confused got over it pretty quickly
Yeah there are just certain characters, and it's really hard to decide which one other than just off of vibes, where you don't need to recast, and others where you absolutely do. For me the biggest thing with DC here is how associated they are with other characters that are confirmed not to carry over. You hear Gal Gadot Wonder Woman and immediately picture Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill right next to her. Too ingrained with the rest. Meanwhile most of the Suicide Squad characters I feel like don't have that. The only one is Harley and the Joker, and I think since 2016 Margot Robbie has very much made the character her own thing that you can think of without immediately assuming her presence = Jared Leto Joker.
I honestly think we underestimate people when we say things like that are confusing. It's a new Bond, but the boss is the same as before because they are actors. There really isn't much about it.
@@bacsilva I think it matters more with these movies than something like Bond because they're more serialized. You do need people to understand whether they are supposed to be assuming that the events from previous movies still happened or not.
If they ever do anything with the old dceu actors in the new dceu, I’d like to see them as a crime syndicate. Gal gadot as super woman, Henry Cavill as ultra man, Ben affleck as owl man.
I do think that keeping Cena as Peacemaker in a Psycho Pirate-type role, having him be the one guy who remembers the old universe would be fun. Also works in terms of the 3-4 year gap between seasons that Peacemaker is going to have.
They could even explain how he remembers by him being in the pocket dimension his dad had at the same time the universe was rebooted and say that protected him from that
I honestly think the only reason Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller, and Jason Mamoa have all been “maybes” in terms of returning or not returning was mostly because they were waiting to see how everything played out. The Flash and Shazam 2 both tanked so Ezra Miller is out, Zachary Levi is out, and Gal Gadot (who cameoed in both and was even used in last ditch advertising for Shazam to boost the box office) is also out. Aquaman 2 is still coming at some point so until they get the returns on that movie they don’t want to officially confirm Jason Mamoa is gone. The minute it also ranks is the minute they confirm he’ll be recast too. Meanwhile Peacemaker is Gunn’s baby and the highest rated show Max has put out up to this point both in terms of critics and viewership numbers, so that whole cast is safe. The Suicide Squad was less obviously successful but still was received well and seems to have gotten good viewership on streaming so I’d guess they consider that a success still too and thus those actors will probably continue on as well. Honestly it’s fine. Those are silly properties with C-list characters, we can handwave it pretty easily and I doubt anyone would be nearly as confused as they would seeing Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman standing next to David Corenswet.
I thought Jason Momoa was out as Aquaman as they want to reboot the franchise without Amber Heard. They were gonna give Jason Momoa the part of Loba which is a spitting image of Jason Momoa. Erza Miller and Gal Gadot could still stay but Ben Affleck and Jason is likely out like Henry Cavill. James Gunn haven't decided what to do yet. Keep in mind rebooting with fresh new cast may not produce box office hits. I think Levi is okay still as Shazam. They might bring Robert Pattinson in as new Batman and will bring in someone new for Green Lantern to complete the Justice League cast. If they do it right it can be like Avengers but they need a good villain like Thanos.
Exactly, She’s[wonder woman] a MAIN cast of the dc brand as a whole of course we need a new one ,Waller is just to set up individuals ,WW is capable of setting up a whole universe it’s ridiculous people are trying to justify her staying and complaining about WALLER
I always thought it was funny that WW was the only Amazon with no muscles. The woman that played her mom is a decade plus older than her and still put on some muscle. Also she was the only Amazon with that accent. Neither are big deals but just a lack of detail.
@@andrewklang809 nah, I think she just sucked at working out. If you look at her workouts she was lifting way too light. I'm sure her kids were heavier than the heaviest thing I saw her lift. If an actress can get to the physique of a Mischa Tate, I think that would be a good fit for WW.
Nit like she can hop on steroids like a lot of male actors do. Steroids are just a lot harsher on women, especially aesthetically, which is like the most important thing for actors and actresses. But I do agree that she could've trained better, resonance periodisation reviewed her training, and a lot of it was fluff(not really her fault, though, partially it is).
I think the only whole reboot but keeping Peacemaker characters makes sense enough to me. Both of Gunn’s past DC projects were VERY disconnected from most the Snyderverse. So aside from one scene I don’t see an issue.
I agree completely. His stuff felt completely separate, honestly, it felt more in line with Doom Patrol in my opinion. I know that's totally unrelated, but man, I kinda hope that sticks.
While I LOVE Gadot as Wonder Woman, and her first film is personally a Top 10 superhero movie for me… I truly hope they get a new Diana for the DCU. I’m so excited for DC to have a fresh start, and I’m down for her getting a trilogy ending film if it’s set in an Elseworld. But her Wonder Woman was the one we saw fighting alongside Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck. It just seems like it would feel weird to see her in a NEW trinity, like a constant reminder of what was but isn’t any longer. I’m even fine with keeping characters like Waller and Peacemaker as the same actors, they’re not as pivotal (like JK Simmons’ Jameson or Judi Dench’s “M” appearing in multiple versions of their franchises). Even Mamoa I guess I can be okay with staying, people would riot if he’s not Aquaman anymore (we’ll see how the sequel fares in December). Everything else I’ve heard about Gunn’s universe is exciting, Corenswet’s Superman and Brosnahan’s Lois, the other confirmed castings and characters sound perfect! I really respect his direction, but WW is a huge character and it would be hard for me to not think of the old DCEU when I see her.
@@-.Outlaw.- agreed I’m like you have the Batman Nolan trilogy in there fs, Spider-Man 1 & 2, Into the Spiderverse, definitely Logan, Infinity War, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 3, Iron Man, Split… I have like 25 movies better than WW lmao, it’s a good movie but not that good. Ig everyone’s entitled to their opinion.
They should do Wonder Woman 3 like Constantine's second animated movie, it's from the Tomorrowverse era of DC animation but it actually caps off the DCAMU as a sort of epilogue.
BobaTalks recently released a video about this same subject and he brought up some good points. James Gunn is usually one to debunk when something is right or wrong, and he’s even debunked Variety’s statements before. But since Gal’s statements were released, he hasn’t said a peep, positive or negative. I think she’s out because he probably would’ve talked with her in private instead of saying something on social media. Nando bringing up that the interviews are likely from a bit ago is also a great point too. I like her take a lot, and I adore WW(2017), but it would be so much better for the DCU with a new trinity.
That's more evidence that she's telling the truth. James and Gadot confirmed they were working together on a Wonder Woman 3 project. Several months later, Gadot says she still is. James Gunn, who usually debunks things eagerly and who had no problem debunking Cavill, has not debunked this. The only sources Deadline is providing are... unnamed and unverifiable. So I'm going to listen to the people willing to put their name on things instead of people who may just be interns or d-boys.
Well with Henry Cavill gone and Ben Affleck Jason Momoa presumably gone it's only Gadot and Miller left and both WW 2 and Flash didn't resonate with fans though IMO Flash was pretty good despite the low box office. James Gunn is a smart director and producer and isn't going to trash everything and will salvage parts that fit into his vision for DCU. Gadot and Miller could fit into his plans so I wouldn't count them out yet. He's gonna start with Superman and lesser known superheros to see how that works. Right now there doesn't seem to be a market for Justice League or the Flash and even WW is shaky judging by box office.
Honestly I think The Suicide Squad should just get a pass on the recasting, as like being its own kinda-in kinda-out thing in the previous continuity. Like, I know we and I'm pretty sure all audiences can accept that that was James Gunn's project, and it was never really part of the main continuity anyway, and those actors are just SO good at those roles that I honestly don't think I can imagine a Peacemaker that isn't John Cena and I don't think I want to imagine a Harley that isn't Margot Robbie. Like, with Margot Robbie, I think she's terrific and I also think she hasn't quite gotten the role yet that really shows that off, but that that's purely down to the writers and directors at bat, and the will of the studio to make that happen, and I think we all (her included) deserve to see that. Also, I know she's on record as wanting to bring HarlIvy to live action, so like... More incentive.
Viola Davis as Waller is legit one of the best castings of the old DCU. She should 100% stay, I think that most characters that aren’t like Justice League level big deals can stick around like SS characters or even some of the Shazamily could get another go. As for Gadot I enjoyed her as this character but I don’t really like most of her other film roles, she is great as WW though. If she’s recast I hope that the actress is someone of a similar background to Diana in the comics and probably will have to be mid 30’s if I had to through out an age too.
funny ways they could justify keeping waller and the peacemaker cast: a) they flash back to the justice league cameo in season 2 and its reshot with the new DCU heroes b) waller has contingencies (and that's as much an explanation as we get)
I have a lot of faith in James Gunn, the fact that he is making a "Woman of Tomorrow" movie is really cool. A fan of the comics who makes amazing superhero movies is teaming up with other visionary directors to make the DCU as good as possible. It's kind of a Justice Leage on its own. He has also said that he's drawing inspiration from the DCAU, which is most definitely the most definitive version of the DC Universe (Outside of the good comics). I have my FULL trust in James. Super excited.
I agree. He's taking a measured approach and figuring it out as he goes to see what works and what doesn't. He's not sure himself but wisely isn't hitting the reset button on everything as there are good parts worth keeping. A big factor is the box office results which is what WB the studio will be looking at.
@@jonfreeman9682 It really depends on whether Aquaman 2 succeeds in the box office or not. I hope they don't keep Ezra as Barry and they should do a future Flash project with Wally. I'm more a fan of the FULL reset, keeping nobody. But I'm going to just sit back and let James cook.
@@Masque6817 I can tell ya it is a monumental task but I'm betting he can pull it off. The odds aren't good especially with superhero fatigue setting in for fans but he's showed promise with Guardians, suicide squad and peacemaker. He can't do everything himself so he'll have to hire other talented directors. That's what Kevin Feige did.
At 3:10 you take on an uncanny resemblance of Oppenheimer during that one "I am become death" interview, the way you're looking down and grumbling. It's amazing.
In the flash, it is shown that Different timelines/Universes have consistencies. There's usually always a Batman, an alfred ,etc. and it already introduced the multiverse. It would be weird to scrap those multiverse rules. Especially since the majority of most Multiversal stories throughout different media franchises also say that some universes share people. It would be safe to assume the new DCU is a parallel Universe with some same people
I remember wanting Jamie Alexander who played Lady Sif in the Thor movies to be Wonder Woman back when casting was first underway. Marvel severely under utilised her character in the first two movies, and she doesn't even show up in the Ragnarok (can't speak to Love and Thunder, havent seen it) I still think she would make a great Wonder Woman, give her the chance to shine.
She's great actress and would be a good WW. But credit to Gal Gadot who did great. There's alot of actresses they can cast in the role but James Gunn wants to reboot with origin story so want younger cast for all. There's a part of me that thinks this reboot won't do any better box office wise than the old cast. Do TH-camrs agree?
I do like Gal as WW because the character does have this fish out of water mysteriousness but she also nailed the sensible WW that like helped Batman as a friend.
I’ll give James Gunn the benefit of the doubt, the former regime left him in a Kobayashi Maru where any announcement he makes will anger people. I just hope he manages to cheat his way into the good graces of both the fans and general audiences.
James Gunn has a very difficult task of turning DCU into MCU. To be fair I don't think the Snyder verse was bad and there were hits like WW, Batman vs Superman and first Superman was a box office success. But it couldn't reach MCU level of success. There's a part of me that thinks the DCU may not have the story depth and appeal of MCU so it may not be realistic to expect the same level of success.
NANDO! This is your regular reminder to make that “why I don’t do One Small Change videos anymore” video! I’m sure you’ve got a good reason, but man, I miss them. Replacing Vuck with Emma Frost would have gone a long way toward saving that movie!
Wonder Woman 1984 had a lot of issues, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman was not one of them. I don't remember the hate so much with Tobey, but the feelings on Wonder Woman will probably end up like how Andrew Garfield was treated for a while after Amazing Spider-Man 2, many people didn't like him as Spider-Man because of how TASM2 was received, then when we saw him again 7 years later in No Way Home everyone loved him and started singing his praises. That does seem like how a lot of this stuff goes, people think the movie is bad so automatically the actor is bad in the role, or the movie is good so automatically the actor is the best thing that ever happened to the role, when that isn't the case, good actors can have bad movies, and bad actors can have good movies. James Gunn has already announced a Wonder Woman project with his announcement video, Paradise Lost, the only thing is it's set before Diana is born IIRC, but I'd bet that's probably why there's much confusion on what's happening with Gal as Wonder Woman, cause he doesn't want to take the focus off Paradise Lost. That said, I'm sure we'll probably see her back as Wonder Woman at some point, though it'll probably be a Multiversal thing. Peacemaker and the Suicide Squad movies are pretty easy to bring over into the DCU, aside from a couple mentions or cameos from DCEU characters they're all pretty much their own thing, kinda like how the Guardians of the Galaxy were for the MCU prior to Infinity War, so it wouldn't cause that many problems continuity wise. I think Gunn said in his announcement video that Viola Davis would be back as Amanda Waller.
Its just very confusing looking from the outside. Like you hear things but then you see things that contradict those things. But I really thought the flash would do the thing where he breaks the multiverse and the universe resets itself with brand new actors.
Maybe I'm just cynical but to me it feels like Gal was trying to drum up hype in the hopes that fans would rally and demand her be kept in the DCEU so she could stay pop-culturally relevant, but it fell flat on it's face.
I was thinking that too and man did it backfire. Not only did people not hype the idea to keep her on, most people were like, “Why? Get rid of her too!”
Wonder Woman deserves a good actress this next time along with good writers like Greg Rucka who’s written some of her best comics. Hopefully Paradise Lost takes inspiration from WW Historia: The Amazons too.
I agree that Gal Gadot's portrayal of Wonder Woman is iconic, and enough people seem to agree, which makes the inconsistencies in DC's casting that much more confusing. However, I'm sure even DC themselves are uncertain about the franchise's direction. If they are in fact rebooting the franchise, I think Sofia Boutella would be an interesting choice. Her physical prowess and unique presence could add a fresh perspective to the role.
A good actress for Wonder Woman is Tracy Spiridakos She's on "Chicago PD" In that show she's proven she can play a bad ass whos willing to go out of way to save innocent people at the expense of her own hubris which is very Diana like She's Greek as Diana and the Amazons are so she can pull off a Greek accent Shes naturally dark haired /dark brown she just dyes it blonde And she's tall 5'10"
Introduce Osborn as a new Iron Patriot, completely ignore the Green Goblin. Alternatively, use Justin Hammer. Then you have USAgent, Abomination, Yelena, then let's say Ares or Hercules and Bullseye from Daredevil season 3. Optionally you can have some later Avengers analogs like Mac Gargan, White Vision, or Agatha Harkness. Maybe Ralph Boner if you want to piss people off. Have them try to pass themselves off as the real Avengers and then either come into conflict with whatever set of heroes you want to use or a greater scope villain that will force them to actually have to act as heroes. Maybe a Loki variant or a surviving bit of Ultron for semetry.
I think the idea of doing a cameo from a member of the Trinity is an interesting idea (Superman in Shazam and Black Adam, Batman in The Flash kinda, Wonder Woman in Shazam 2 and The Flash). It’s just that when all of them are “here’s our big end of the movie cameo so that you know it all takes place in the same universe” it all just blends together
I genuinely feel like sexism plays a role in how people treat her in the role compared to the other DCEU actors. You could throw the same acting criticisms at Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa as well as bring up their personal lives like people have done with Gal and yet they don't get treated the same. Either way, I loved her in the role. If she stays that's cool, but if not that's cool too.
If sexism was such a big problem then it feels odd people complained so much about gal gadot but appreciated Sasha calle in the flash? Your theory doesn’t really work here.
@@anom6707 Gal is the star of her own series of films and appears in different films in significant roles, Sasha appeared in one film for a total of 15 minutes of screentime. She's not treated the same because she's not in the spotlight.
having a better actor allows for WW stories where she has "assimilated" to normal earth life. Gadot can never not be a fish out of water due to her accent and wooden acting.
@@bennett4789 she simply isn't an actress that can do much, perhaps part of it is the director. But Ana de Armas has an accent and she's played tons of different roles
I agree with most of your comment but I don’t agree with your “she can never not be a fish out of water due to her accent” while I do agree with the fish out of water thing tremendously helping her with Wonder Woman, plenty of actors with accents are great… Javier bardem, Penelope cruz, Ana de armas are some names off the top of my head
Nando's logic: We have to get rid of Gal Gadot because she reminds people of the previous era. But it's ok to keep Viola Davis, Margot Robbie, and everyone from Peacemaker....because....we like them and they're good?
Yeah I personally think that it’s okay maybe keeping supporting characters like viola Davis since Amanda Waller isn’t a character which people remember or flock to theatres like Wonder Woman or something. But I think Margot’s had her fun and she’s been playing the character for a long enough time for dceu standards. She’s been playing the character for about 7 years at this point, as long as gal gadot and Ben affleck at this point. But I think she’s done enough with the role and it’s time to let someone else have their try at it. I was never personally a big fan of Margot’s Harley Quinn, she was okay but I just didnt love her performance like other people did. It would also feel a bit unfair to other actors that only Margot got to reprise her role but others didn’t? And with Barbie being such a big hit I don’t think gunn and the rest will want to pay her such big bucks when they can go for a lesser known actress and save money and start fresh.
when you said viola davis was the only person to play amanda waller, i immediately wanted to go "erm actually, amanda waller was played by angela bassett in the green lantern movie ☝🤓"
The WB/DC movies have been a mess of confusing since shortly after beginning. Heck, the Man Of Steel movie was already confusing in how wrong it got Superman, and it was confusing that Green Lantern has been erased from the continuity. And then BvS and leading into Justice League had more sudden developments that came out of nowhere. It's actually hard to point at any of the "continuity" of the the DCCU and not find it messy and confusing. And it's only gotten worse as it went. So them keeping or not keeping Gadot is par for the course. I think it's just as confusing to have a new actor in the role. They may be a better actor than Gadot who is gorgeous but not all that great with the acting. It'd be best, I think, to let the DC film universe just chill out for a couple years. No more movies, just let it cool down until at least the last quarter or 2025 or even somewhere in 2026. _Then_ do their soft or not-so-soft reboot. The time between would help cement that break in continuity and incentivize a clean start. It does suck for some of the talent who I don't think got a fair shake since they were cast into a poorly written and poorly realized rendition of the DC universe. Affleck and Cavil I think could have been amazing with some better material to work with. Momoa still works very well as Aquaman, I think, especially if the character was better written. Gadot was fine as Wonder Woman but kinda terrible as Diana -- if that tracks for anyone. And Ezra Miller never should have been cast, they are just not someone I think should be outside of proper mental healthcare at this time. And what's-his-name as Shazam... meh. I really don't like the actor in particular but he did fine I guess. Dwayne as Black Adam was trash though.... and that one is more on Dwayne and his terrible clause-filled contract that lead to a waste of a movie. Gunn's The Suicide Squad, though, should remain canon. And Margot as Harley is kind of cemented in place it seems like.
I can agree with a lot of the feelings in this video (I thought Gal Gadot worked in the role, she just needed writing and directing that affirmed it), but I have to say the dissolution of the DCEU has been such a bad process. It's been so piecemeal and dragged out: we've suspected since before Black Adam came out that it was going away and have known shortly after BA that is what's happening...except they still had at least 3 more DCEU movies to release, 1 that is still on the way even as we learn more about plans for its replacement. The fact Gunn is in charge so he's keeping his stuff (Peacemaker, Waller) makes it even harder to get a clean break. I really wish we were able to cut the DCEU off after Justice League or some equivalent film that could've served as a proper goodbye - at least push The Flash to the end of the release schedule (after Aquaman) and then use it like everyone expected (and they probably meant to) and reboot the world. That said, I am a bit sad Gadot won't get a 3rd movie, to maybe tie things up a bit and end on a positive note rather than 84 or the cameos, but I feel similarly for Cavill and Affleck and maybe Momoa, given how far back 2 was filmed.
I think writing off all anti Gal Gadot continuing people as anti women or only coloured by the recent films, is kinda giving her too much credit. Lot of Palestine supportive related issues to dislike her as a person, and I don't think she was good in BvS, though for what role she had in WW1, she was good. But imo acting confused at man's world doesn't make you a good actor
Since the multiverse saga is happening do you think the MCU will make a Exiles movie with the mutant characters from the Fox X-men movies like anya taylor joys Magik and evan peters Quicksilver
What made Gal Gadot's performance in Wonder Woman and BvS so good was her physical acting; she's able to convey an array of emotions without talking, which makes sense considering she started out as a model. The funniest bits in WW are probably just her reacting to stuff. Her verbal acting, however, not great. Which is kinda important, but WW knew how to play to her strengths, and the fact she's from an ancient greek-esque island made her accent and the fact English isn't her first language workable. But then in Justice League... Oh man. In the Whedon version she has a conversation with Bruce which turns into a full-blown epic exposition monologue that she simply can't pull off and honestly I think this is far worse than the whole "Kal El No" line. I figured this speech was probably studio-mandated to explain some stuff they felt wasn't clear enough or maybe got lost because the movie got butchered in the editing room, but then in the Snyder Cut they gave her a DIFFERENT monologue! Why would you do this? Why give this task to your one actor who isn't a native English speaker? Especially since in both versions, the monologue was pretty redundant, and the action on screen would have been enough to deliver the information. Genuinely bizarre imo
I think she was great. I dont know who else could play her character but they will have big shoes to fill. They should keep Davis too. Its too hard to cast very good people for these roles and if you get a dud (Ezra Miller) it can sink your whole ship. Im going to give the audience more credit and say they are able to figure it out.
No one has specifically said Gal Gadot isnt continuing as Wonder Woman. They've just said "Wonder Woman 3" isnt in development or going to happen... Which considering Gunn is doing a continuity reboot would make sense wether he gets a new actress or continues with Gadot playing the Gunn DCU variant of Diana. It would be Wonder Woman film #1 in the new continuity. They announced Cavil & Afflecks depature months ago because they were recasting...so why are they still quiet on Gadot's status?
because there is a new superman movie close to start shooting and a new batman movie anounced ,unlike WW who doesnt have anything significant in the forseeable future
For me, that whole extended universe experiment consists of three pretty entertaining and loosely connected origin stories: Man of Steel, Batman v Superman and Wonder Woman followed by a bonkers Aquaman and a fun and zany group-up in the totally out of nowhere THE Suicide Squad, and the not awful Birds of Prey. Not a bad run on the whole, leaning in to what their great cast brought to each role and a strong director's voice for each film. Who knows what amazing things they could have achieved if their rumored Justice League movie had ever got off the ground, and what sort of treatment the Flash might have received. However what we got is not a bad run at all and I for one am looking forward to that 6-film box set coming out one day soon.
Honestly I don't think the Snyder verse was that bad at all. There were successes like Batman vs Superman, WW and first Superman. But they couldn't reach the same level of MCU success.
@@jonfreeman9682 Haha I joke, truly I can watch and appreciate the qualities of pretty much anything. At the same time, if they can just make things up as they go along with no plan, yet pretend they do (for financial reasons), then I can just take the bits I like and throw away the barely connected waste I'm not in to. I've been doing it with Star Wars for years and it was the de facto way of dealing with silly franchise shenanigans before the internet made everyone so serious.
@@DamnFineCupOfCoffeebut is it really? Is acting subjective if someone told you Adam sandler was really good in jack and Jill? Idk I don’t agree with that sentiment
I want the new DCU to keep the same actors for Harley, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang, The Huntress and the Peacemaker team. Rick Flag too if they decide to bring him back. I feel them were the most entertaining characters and would make sense to keep them. Also, i wouldn't mind if they bring some actors in different roles, like Henry Cavill for a character in The Authority or maybe even a villain, like Metallo or Parasite.
100% agree with this take on Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. Super cool in BvS and her solo movie, Josstice League treated her a bit like a toy at times, but the Snyder Cut had the better performance. The writing for her just kinda went downhill after the attempted revamp post-josstice league.
The reason she could work would depend on your perspective. From a live action film analysis, yes she's part of a slate of actors and projects associated with a specific era of their films. From a comics perspective, her sticking around works fine actually. When the New 52 reboot went down, some characters had pretty substantial reboots, others were more subtle and maintained most of their core backstory with minor tweaks. There was a lost period of time that didn't reconcile until they revealed Doctor Manhattan involvement years later. So in this regard, that's an easy explanation for a younger Superman. And The Flash already setup casually mucking about with Batman's appearance, so a new actor here makes sense too (even tho now I'd kinda kill for an older Clooney Bruce in a movie with a competent script). Wonder Woman is immortal (or near enough from our perspective), and her story began in the first World War. Also, as Zeus' daughter, it's less likely that the butterfly effect would drastically alter DNA. Doing a reboot that deletes a decade and/or spaghetti's a few characters by a decade or three in age would... Not alter Diana's appearance at all. I get the "clean slate" approach. I'm just saying there's enough story precedent that Gadot surviving Flashpoint wouldn't have been some glaring discrepancy. As an aside, I think people are jumping super hard on this story which feels like nothing to me so far. Gadot makes references to some convo or two about a possible future project. And people ran with that as if principle photography was about to start. And then an anonymous source says "Uh, nothings been greenlit" and people are saying WARNER BROS CONFIRMS (despite us not knowing the source and WB + Gunn and Safran not issuing statements). We don't ACTUALLY know what's going on behind the scenes, but one person under anonymity made a claim to one outlet and it gets amplified and regurgitated until everyone says the Studio has issued a statement.
There may be a slight wrinkle with Blue Beetle. I just read a thing from the director and he has suggested that there will be overt references to Henry Cavill's Superman throughout the movie. If this is their idea of kicking off the new DC universe that doesn't seem like the best idea in the world.
I loved both her movies very, very much. I loved her in the role. I frankly don't have much interest in a new Wonder Woman right now. but give it some time sure why not
I think it’s okay to bring a couple people over as long as they’re minor characters. Like how the MCU had J.K. Simmons come back. I think Viola Davis should stay since she’s good in the role and since Amanda Waller isn’t a member of the Justice League or anything. I’d also like Margot Robbie to stay. But anyone who was a member of the Justice League needs to be recast to prevent the continuity from being too confusing. As for Peacemaker, unless if they really want to do some crossovers, they could just keep him in the DCEU and have his show be the final piece of content from the DCEU. I mean, I would assume that it’ll only run for another season or two before ending.
Yeah a complete recast might be the best approach. Even recasting Jason Momoa as Loba is weird especially if he shares screen with Aquaman. Miller and Gadot could fit into James Gunn vision of younger cast Justice League so they could stay. I was not a fan of Erza Miller as Flash but his goofy persona actually works in the Flash movie. James Gunn is wisely taking a wait and see approach before making any decisions.
I cant stand Viola Davis she way to damn far to the left woke for me.Thats what i love about Gal Gadot shes a good actress and players Wounder Woman very good shes the best!!!!
Gal Gadot wasn't the greatest actress but her acting wasn't the worst part of the movies she was in. My biggest issue was her support of the IDF, including parroting their cover up of various war crimes. I won't hold her accountable for the actions of the IDF, but I'll hold her accountable for her opinions.
Does anyone else find it extremely odd how nando didn’t even bring that up once yet? I mean he had an entire video basically ranting about the whole hogwarts legacy situation and it’s connection with jk Rowling but he draws the line here? Feels a bit hypocritical imo
I actually think it'd be great if she came on as a producer and helped develop the next Wonder Woman movie whenever that happens, but yeah she shouldn't keep playing the role
First, Gal's being outspoken about her dislike for being in Disney's Snow White remake, now she's being booted off the DC film franchise? Man, this year is not going well for her.
She's fine as she's got movies with Netflix and cameo in Shazam and Flash and she might still get WW 3. She's a little wooden in acting but she handles the WW action scenes well. If Patty Jenkins can put together a good script they'll have her do one more movie. She's a big star now so doesn't need WW anymore plus she's coming back to fast franchise which is running on fumes tbh as nobody dies and every baddie becomes a BFF.
@@jonfreeman9682 gal gadot is only a big actress streaming wise probably lol. She’s barely had many movies as a solo lead in the first place and that too theatrically, add on the fact that she’s only had one hit as a solo lead theatrically, that’s a fluke if I’ve ever seen one. Wouldn’t call her a big actress, would call her overhyped and overpaid personally. Her box office and critical performance don’t show any signs of either being a good actor or being good at the box office.
For the new Wonder Woman, I hope they make her more established in the modern world (kinda like in the 70’s series), and maybe they don’t have to give her an accent. One thing that was awkward about Gadot being WW was that the first movie was banned in parts of the Middle East, because she was Israeli, and what was weird was that the 2017 Justice League movie wasn’t banned. WW84 didn’t get a release bcs of “The Panorama” (however, I did hear about how there was a private screening held sometime after the release where you could pay money for a ticket and you would get a meal as well, but this wasn’t an official release or screening by any means). Another example was how Death on the Nile was also banned because of Gadot being part of the cast (altho, I think the real reason was because there were LGBT characters in the movie).
Is this an IDF bot, sure feels like one because this was never a rumour, this would be impossible because the new super man had a Jewish father and so many people in Hollywood are either jewish or know someone who is. Majority of the current studio ceos are Jewish as well, Warner bros ceo himself David zaslav is Jewish. And here’s the big bombshell, James Gunn himself has Jewish ancestry! So this literally doesn’t make sense, if you actually want to try playing this card at least put in a bit more effort?
This isn’t a popular opinion, but I kind of feel after 5 to 7 flicks, you should consider recasting regardless if it’s a reboot or not. Gal had 2 solo flicks, BVS, Justice League and some cameos in Shazam and Flash. That’s a good enough run. I get why she might want to consider playing the character more with having a Netflix movie of all things dropping instead of a lucrative box office success like WW 6 years ago. Hell she is even coming back to Fast and the Furious. Now maybe if you wanted to give her an elseworld story, maybe.
lately i've been watching a lot of viking-themed content and there's always that one actress who i can see could realistically play Wonder Woman, for Vikings it's Katheryn Winnick, for Norsemen it's Silje Torp and for The Last Kingdom it's Emily Cox. I think any of them would do a good job but if i had to pick one it'd be Winnick.
Gal Gadot was clearly a team player. She was a good face (as in not a criminal) and she was willing to cameo...well, anywhere. It would be a loss to lose her.
I love that you see through the nerd bullshit. What I mean by this is: nerds will always say “I’m not racist, I just want the character to look like they did in the comics.” I love that you see through it. And you are abrupt about your words against that.
Personally, while I love Gadot as Wonder Woman, and I wouldn't have mind her film happening as an Elseworlds Labelled film, I am glad it's not happening, at least not in the DCU, I think we need a new Wonder Woman for the DCU. I'm okay with seeing Davis, Cena, and Margot back as Waller, Peacemaker, and Harley respectfully, because I think keeping Peacemaker and TSS canon could work, as they feel extremely seperate from the DCEU outside of one or two references (and even if they aren't kept canon, I could also see them doing something similar to JK Simmons as Jameson or Judi Dench as M where they're playing the same character but it's not the same version they played back in the day), but with Wonder Woman, I think they need someone new. Though, if Rumors of Mamoa coming back as Lobo are true, then I could see her as a different character in the DCU. Maybe Hippolyta, as a way of passing down the torch to the new Wonder Woman.
Gina Carano could totally look the part, but aside from political views, I'd personally just like a stronger actor in the role. I've never once believe their delivery and it just takes me out of every moment that they're on screen.
Gal Gadot staying would single handedly derail the DCU. I'm dead serious. She was THE face of the past universe, the one thing that went right (besides Momoa's Aquaman), but if James Gunn and Peter Safran really are serious about letting DC have its "new beggining" in theaters, they got to let Wonder Woman have hers too. I mean, I don't mind seeing a handful of smaller characters coming back (like Peacemaker, Blue Beetle...) as a way of having them fully realise their cinematic potential, but we GOTTA have a brand new Justice League representing this brand new DC Universe. Otherwise, I don't see any of this having a future...
I personally think it's OK to keep Viola on as waller. She's a perfect fit for the character. Kinda similar to JK Simmons as JJJ in the Sony Spiderman movies.
She even looks exactly like comic Amanda Waller she was skinny originally
Also, she isn't a character that general movie audiences recognize from movie posters and trailers which would confuse them. For that reason supporting actors and roles aren't exactly the same as major leads.
Exactly. Also Alfred in the Burton + Schumacher movies. Also Judi Dench's M. Or the original Q that was in every Bond movie until he died basically. So long as it's not the MAIN character, I don't mind at all.
Was going to comment the same thing
Bruh I just wrote a similar comment in response to top comment. Sorry for accidentally plagiarizing you bro
It’s like JK Simmons as J Jonah Jameson. That’s the most perfect casting in a comic book movie
For Brosnan, M's real name was Mary or something. For Craig, M's name is Olivia Mansfield. So it's not the exact same character.
If they ever do anything with the old dceu actors in the new dceu, I’d like to see them as a crime syndicate. Gal gadot as super woman, Henry Cavill as ultra man, Ben affleck as owl man.
That would be cool but they're not at that stage yet. They're trying to rebuild the DCU in an era where superhero fatigue has set in with fans.
I would love that, and it would probably piss snyder cultists the fuck off

I do think that keeping Cena as Peacemaker in a Psycho Pirate-type role, having him be the one guy who remembers the old universe would be fun. Also works in terms of the 3-4 year gap between seasons that Peacemaker is going to have.
That would be cool. Cena plays the part well.
That sounds like something James Gunn would do, and I love it!
They could even explain how he remembers by him being in the pocket dimension his dad had at the same time the universe was rebooted and say that protected him from that
@robin0928 3-4 year gap. Nooooooooooooooo. My day is ruined. Cena gonna be so old by then
Not to nit pick, but I would describe Viola Davis as more than just a solid actor.

@@Ghostbustersfan01she doesn’t get to really sho off how good she is in big Hollywood stuff.
I think you’re right.
Honestly I’m glad Gunn’s stuff is probably safe, would hate to see Margot’s Harley recast
Exactly, She’s[wonder woman] a MAIN cast of the dc brand as a whole of course we need a new one ,Waller is just to set up individuals ,WW is capable of setting up a whole universe it’s ridiculous people are trying to justify her staying and complaining about WALLER
This is a very good reading of the situation and is also what I'd say is probably going on.

I know that's totally unrelated, but man, I kinda hope that sticks.
fyi in the very same video gunn announced all the new stuff he said waller was/would be played by davis

Less gooo Nando cut vid

Exactly!
I loved Gal gadot as Wonder Woman and tbh I’m kind of sad WW3 isn’t happening-I was hoping for another film more similar to the 2017 WW
I think a total reboot is coming, they keep final destinationing everyone and soon all will be gone.
I mainly just want a full justice league recast. I'm fine with people like Viola Davis and Margot Robbie staying where they are
Angela Bassett played Amanda Waller in Green Lantern.
funny ways they could justify keeping waller and the peacemaker cast:
a) they flash back to the justice league cameo in season 2 and its reshot with the new DCU heroes
b) waller has contingencies (and that's as much an explanation as we get)
I have a lot of faith in James Gunn, the fact that he is making a "Woman of Tomorrow" movie is really cool.

I think Gunn said in his announcement video that Viola Davis would be back as Amanda Waller.
yes she was. she's a terrible actress
Viola Davis is to waller what JK Simmons is to JJJ
Its just very confusing looking from the outside. Like you hear things but then you see things that contradict those things.
But I really thought the flash would do the thing where he breaks the multiverse and the universe resets itself with brand new actors.
4:12 there was another different actor for Waller in Arrow
Viola Davis can't just be the only actor that has ever played Amanda Waller.
Because Angela Bassett played her in Green Lantern.
Pam Grier did too in smallville
Maybe I'm just cynical but to me it feels like Gal was trying to drum up hype in the hopes that fans would rally and demand her be kept in the DCEU so she could stay pop-culturally relevant, but it fell flat on it's face.
I was thinking that too and man did it backfire. Not only did people not hype the idea to keep her on, most people were like, “Why? Get rid of her too!”
I thought it was already said that the Peacemaker crew and the Suicide Squad crew would carry over to the DCU
Wonder Woman deserves a good actress this next time along with good writers like Greg Rucka who’s written some of her best comics. Hopefully Paradise Lost takes inspiration from WW Historia: The Amazons too.
There's alot of rich history with WW and lots of stories. I think 1984 wasn't well done because they never established the villains.
People on the internet worked themselves up over nothing?
Shocking…
Her interview was actually a day after the superman casting news
I agree that Gal Gadot's portrayal of Wonder Woman is iconic, and enough people seem to agree, which makes the inconsistencies in DC's casting that much more confusing. However, I'm sure even DC themselves are uncertain about the franchise's direction.
If they are in fact rebooting the franchise, I think Sofia Boutella would be an interesting choice. Her physical prowess and unique presence could add a fresh perspective to the role.

Apropo of nothing... you're lookin' great, dude.
I'm very excited for Invincible season 2
when you said viola davis was the only person to play amanda waller, i immediately wanted to go "erm actually, amanda waller was played by angela bassett in the green lantern movie ☝🤓"
To be fair that was the green lantern movie, so we’ll give Nando a pass here lol
Waller, Peacemaker, and maybe Harley being the same actors seems odd in the context of replacing everyone else
Oh man. In the Whedon version she has a conversation with Bruce which turns into a full-blown epic exposition monologue that she simply can't pull off and
honestly I think this is far worse than the whole "Kal El No" line.
I wonder if they'll give Diana as a character a rest for awhile, and go with Nubia in future movies?
Her performance in WW84 was really good, especially in Steve’s final scene
😂😂 nah bruh
@@mavrickalexander It’s all subjective
@@DamnFineCupOfCoffeebut is it really? Is acting subjective if someone told you Adam sandler was really good in jack and Jill? Idk I don’t agree with that sentiment
James gunn gone have all us bald headed from pulling our hair out. Tryna go off of the shit they keep telling us.
Also personal choice for a Wonder Woman in the future would be Adria Arjona
I would love to see your casting for the new Wonder Woman! 🫡
New blood new actor
Okay, it’s funny how in Sandman, we got Lyta played by Razane Jammal who has a passing resemblance to Gal Gadot.
I actually think it'd be great if she came on as a producer and helped develop the next Wonder Woman movie whenever that happens, but yeah she shouldn't keep playing the role
I love her as Wonder-Woman. She will always be Diana Prince to me!
So it’s ok to keep Waller and Harley but not to keep Wonder Woman because… her last movie was less good? Just seems a little inconsistent
An accent wouldn’t be bad necessarily but I’d like it to go more Greek than Israeli
Politics will always get involved in how a movie is accepted overseas. There are simply some aspects that are given a pass more than others.
I heard rumors saying they hated Gal Godot’s Wonder Woman because she's Jewish
We need a reboot, if she stays that kinda defeats the purpose as a member of the trinity
"Not a criminal"
So we're ignoring war criminals/people who support a military that openly commits war crimes huh
If she was a team player she would’ve promoted the movies she cameo in but she didn’t, she rather promote her useless cameo in fast X
A good face as in not a criminal? What is that supposed to mean?
The expectations are at ground level here guys. It's not hard to find actresses who aren't criminals who will also do cameos.
I love that you see through the nerd bullshit.
What I mean by this is: nerds will always say “I’m not racist, I just want the character to look like they did in the comics.” I love that you see through it. And you are abrupt about your words against that.
Is ezra still there? The main reason i was into DC movies was henry cavill superman.. so ill have to see what happens
Recast everyone. Waller and peacemaker should be elseworlds since they were already made. Full reboot. Full recast
Otherwise, I don't see any of this having a future...
hey Nando did u get a haircut? looks good!
Patty Jenkins did not write the first WW, only the second, and we see how that one ended up.
I think gal could be a great comic accurate enchantress, like JLU enchantress
GOOOOOOOD
Let me simplify it for you, the only characters staying are the Suicide squad characters and Blue Beetle. Jason Mamoa is Lobo instead
It is a weird week if people are wondering, during an actors strike, if an actor is returning to do a role in a rebooted cinematic universe.
Get a new Wonder Woman. The holy trinity needs to be fresh faces.
I would cast Andria Arjona
