My Papa is the one who spared this precious tape from being destroyed. Someone was going to throw it out and he said he would like to have it. He died in 1992 and would be so happy that others are getting to enjoy it.
Independence is definitely an awesome [small] town but has grown alot over the decades... These are def GREAT memories of the HISTORIC buildings STILL standing...we have ALL been BLESSED 🙏😇 & come a long way, tht's forsure! ❤️ 🇱🇷 🦅🙏 I miss Wilson's store, one of my favorite places as a child! I also miss the DQ too...🍦💕🍨
My grandpa used to live right in this area I still remember driving through here almost everyday the courthouse and the rest of the buildings are still there
Precious video, brought back lots of memories. So much is the same, different names.Went to St. Cecilia, got married in the church, worked in the bank, visited the covrt house many times. Sad when they tore the church down, but when they built the new addition I was in the 8th grade, & we could buy a brick for a nickel or dime and write something on the side that didn't show. I still remember what I wrote. Those of you still there, thank your lucky stars; there is no place like Independence. :)
I never lived in Independence but love watching this old video,To my thinking this could be anywhere in small town America in the 1930's..Great production values with a big band sound track from that era.Terrific posting!!!
looks like the only thing even close to the same is the court house. i graduated sk in 2000 and moved to grant county shorty after, boy how the towns changed in just the past few years.

Is your uncle Bob West? Or was he the one that photographed it?
