Funny enough, this update makes people play Wes even less than before, but appreciate when he's around even more (like Medic, from TF2). I'm playing as Wes in an endless server, and while I do my part of bringing food and resources back to base, and give some balloons every now and then, I was expecting people to put me aside for being Wes, and it was actually the opposite: aside from being called cute and receiving a lot of "aaaaw"s, people actually helped me when I was in danger, or the one time I died. I was really surprised. Klei did rework Wes in a good way. Also, the worst thing to maintain now is his sanity, believe it or not.
I think Klei just made him a more useful support character with this update, and that's good. Still not good to play apparently, but now people at least want him around.

Fitting for Wes, he struggles more so others can have it mildly easier. Low on Pig skin on a rainy day? Wes can blow a hat. Hounds coming? Wes is a great meat shield, even if he'd rather not be. Strapped for sanity? Balloons baby! Base looks bland? Use Wes to decorate. Need some entertainment? We have a mime here, so enjoy his presence.
Yup! Saved that surprise for those looking to try it all out! I would like to see the look on their surprised faces when they wonder what hurt them! :D
I find the fact that Wes chops trees slower to be extremely funny There's a character in this game that's literally, canonically, a little girl And Wes chops trees slower than her Lmao
I really like how it plays in his double identity as either a lousy failure and implicit "ultra hard" singleplayer mode or as a supportive role in teams, the latter being brought out more in this update too. I like that dual role and hope they maintain and keep up both aspects of it.

I find it interesting that the more Wes suffers, the more benefits he gives to allies if they can tolerate how much of a burden he is. You can use him to lure lighting to your rods, have him make balloons for walking or sailing, and his balloons help others recover sanity after farming nightmares. Heck, you could use him to farm nightmares because how easy it is for him to lose sanity if he keeps making balloons.
I hope this rework sticks around. Me and my friends occasionally try to get as far as we can (Haven't made it past summer yet lol) but we have a dedicated Wes main, and this will actually help a ton come spring time. Makes up for the time he ate the Deerclops eye while trying to hand it to me
Wes should've gotten the balloon mech from the animation, it would pop on being attacked but also absorb the attack along with having a movement speed boost and a very weak ranged attack and melle
I thought that the party balloon was going to aggro mobs and combined with his other new mechanics make Wes a bad luck lightning rod like he is in his short
I think they just need to give Wes a purpose. The game is generally hard enough already, why not give him some crazy endgame capabilities but make it ridiculously hard to actually get there?
That would still mean that we would see Wes heating up and freezing faster than others even without clothing. In fact, he should be heating up or freezing even faster without them!

i feel like this is a good fit for wes make him odd in the fact he is hard to play since he has bad luck and all that however the pro is he brings good luck to others in the way of buffs and other things. Make him the "healer" of the game one could say.

So... Then wes now becomes more fragile than maxwell because of his other stats and an "support" character that we can't count in normal task like mining, chopping. Unless they make a change in that later on.

For me it’s pretty clear the Klei did think about that. Maxwell didn’t know how they got there because Wes “brought” them when he was kidnapped.

Another fact:This food make by Warly, which makes me think that Warly had cafes and Wes loved his food.
wes was a person with a kind heart but with really bad luck, he doesn't deserve the hate he gets after seeing what he went through
I love the new voice line that Klei gave to Wes. It's so dramatic!
I hope aspects of this are not reverted, like the new balloon items he can make, the animations, and the higher chance of lighting.
They won't be, at least not at this point. They have given us a taste and if they want unhappy campers then taking it away if how they will get them.
Being that Wes is a mime I am surprised Klei didn't give Wes the ability to make invisible walls.

Well it seems wes has become even harder to play
