Di Maria shouldn’t be on the list , United got their money back selling him to PSG and while he wasn’t up to his standards he still assisted and scored some goals in a tough transitional period for United.. the likes of Kepa and Hazard will never leave their respective clubs for anywhere near the prices paid for them
The stranger part with the Kepa deal is what goalkeeping logjam was going on in Bilbao. Buying Kepa unleashed not one but two La Liga goalkeepers from the B team as Alex Remiro was originally slated as the #1 with Iago Herrerin behind him. Then Remiro got injured and the battle was between a 21 year old Unai Simon and Iago which ended with a 21 year old goalkeeper.
Simon had impressed enough that Remiro was seen redundant and permitted to leave on a mutual termination. Remiro then signed with Real Sociedad.
Edit: The fact that Kepa being bought actually turned into two #1 goalkeepers for La Liga teams and that Athletic Club couldn't profit more off of it is even more hilarious than the farcical fee paid for Kepa.

Torres was the best out of these failures. 45 goals in 172 games with 20 league goals in 110 games which is very bad but scored 25 goals in 62 cup competitions games which is very good and won the FA cup, Champions League and Europa league
Also it was his goal that helped us to win the europa league and his attack lead to Juan Matas corner for Drogbas equaliser

These are all relatively recent signings, but there have been some monumental clangers in the past. Veron to Man U. Cottee to Everton.
Veron was good at United. The players underperformed at the start of the season and played better the next season. Wasn't quite a good fit but he did not play badly. More of a flop at Chelsea, he was a regular starter in a league winning team. For the record he played more league games than Roy Keane and Nicky Butt that season. Only Scholes played more games in CM.

I hate the Robinho myth the guy scored 14 goals in 40 games not a bad return from a winger finishing his one full season as City's top goalscorer with 14 and the fourth top scorer in the league. He missed the first half of the second season injured and was sold for a fee of between 18-21m(with add-ons), so a loss of around 15m... Now you want a City player of that era that was a really bad deal... Try Roque Santa Cruz 3 goals in 20 games signed for 17.5m released on a free!

Alexis Sanchez has to be the worst. Other transfers have injury excuses or managerial disputes, etc. Sanchez tho, he was leaving Arsenal for Old Trafford as a top 5 premier league player. He had no really terrible injury issue, not many issues with the playing style or the fit in the Starting XI. He literally just became shit the moment he landed in Manchester. He was given nearly 400k a week contract. That's 20 million a year ! He cost Man utd 66 million before his loan move to Inter, in which United were still paying a large portion of his salary while he was playing for another club.
In dollar per goal terms, Sanchez's goals cost United 13 million pounds EACH ! Worst in history, by a mile !

If you pay 100M - 160M euro for a player that has contributed 0% on the pitch for 2 years and you can't even get rid of him and sell him for 10M euros that's literally the top. I mean PSG might not have gotten their money's worth with Neymar, but he contributed to getting them to a Champions League final. Hazard's contributions are 0.
