First time listening. Great podcast, excellent host, compelling and enthusiastic voice! The images and film clips is a great idea....I wish that more podcasts would do so.

Hey great guest; might I suggest to try to get the philosopher Sebastian Rödl (Uni Leipzig) on the podcast he has just finished a research program on Good and Evil and will be publishing a book on the subject later this year.
Here is a excerpt from his research program: "It is the guiding thought of Good and evil that in the consciousness of evil, more fundamental still than in the idea of being, the whole is opened up, and that this is so because practical thought is not only a consciousness of a contrary opposition, a this or that, hence a choice, and good or bad. Rather, it is a consciousness of a contradictory opposition, a yes or no, hence a contradiction, and good or evil. Thus I am de-centered precisely in the last thought in which I think myself."

Jason's voice matches his fearless writing. This is the closest to X spot on my venn diagram of interests. Thoroughly enjoyed his work on Insurgent, Poet, Mystic, Sectarian: The Four Masks of an Eastern Postmodernism. This though, jumped straight through the ring of fire. Love it!! So much to say but for now massive thanks for bringing us this banger! Hope he'll be back!

Mind you, Evil has no Beginn nor ending just like the Good. Both are transcendental and nessecary background forces. Both must be and intermingle to create our manifested universe of becoming. But it is our question waether we manifest evil. Please investigate work of Jacob Böhme.

Jason is not coherent in approaching the topic of "Evil" objectively. When the talk gets to the topics of language, comedy, politics and escapism his personal, political biases towards the matter at hand are revealed. When he argues that the beliefs of the Nazies was the "Good" in contrast to the Bad(Evil) in his exalted conceptualization of Evil, it doesn't help at all in this discussion, because he doesn't elaborate objectively enough on it and just uses it to enforce his political biases later in the conversation by supplying us with just a new Scapegoat. Who doesn't see that is easily persuaded.
I would also argue that when he touches on the subject of people fleeing into fairy tails/religion or the mythical dimension instead of the "reality" of the political dimension of life he echo's the psychoanalictical bias I've noticed that the fairty tail/mythological realm is an escape from reality instead of a poetic or methaphorical representation of reality or a type of language to talk about ourselves or common reality.
Furtthermore he doesn't elaborate on why groups need to frame "evil" or the "other" within their stories about reality to create social cohesion, common goals and Meaning within a group by contrast, probably because that would show how he hasn't dealt yet with his personal biases on the matter.
To give an example; people today are totally sensational about getting some sort of social justice in the same way people were out to catch witches/wizards in centuries before. There is group-think and the demonisation of humans as total incarnations of Evil. The same narratives as in the fairy tail are involved within the spectrum of political "reality". I'm sorry to say but in my opinion Jason doesn't even touch upon the real problems that divide us as Humans concerning the framing of Evil; I would even argue he is just using the term to promote his inner biases and political agenda.
I say this because no matter where you are on the political, religious or psychological spectrum; whenever you want to study the concept of "evil" objectively, you'll notice its just about an in-group of people trying to gain some sort of identity and meaning by framing the out-group as evil.
"To be with Us talking about politics and such" --> framing all outside of his perceptive of "reality" as escapism, totally blind to how his construct of reality is a in many ways a fairy tail as well.

@@FancyCraffsI always find it funny that when you look into these threads you have all these hyper educated individuals condescendingly telling all the ignorant to go learn. It’s like if you have the knowledge why not educate. Granted you probably spent a lot of time educating yourself because someone else prolly told you that but at this point and time in history we don’t really have time. Maybe the knowledge you have can help someone who actually has the nuts to use it instead of weaponizing it against the ignorant on online threads👌🏾
