My dad built a large boat. There wasn't a single nail in it. When I was a kid I asked him one day why he struggled with so many screws. He explained that a wooden boat expands and contracts. He said in rough seas it will even flex. Then he explained how a nail will work its way out while a screw will hold tight forever. Every frame rib from the keel up was set in a hand cut joint and then secured with screws.
Too bad some of the commenters are getting caught in a pointless discussion. The ingenuity these people show is mind blowing! No blueprint is what amazes me the most; imagine assembling Ikea furniture. This is a marvel of marine engineering.
In the 14th century CE King Abubakari II, the brother of King Mansa Musa of the Mali Empire is thought to have had a great armada of ships sitting on the coast of West Africa. This corroborated by ibn Battuta himself who recalls several hundred Malian ships off the coast. The ships would communicate w/ each other by drums. This has led to great speculation, that Malian sailors may have reached the coast of Pre-Columbian America under the rule of Abubakari II, nearly yrs B4 Christopher Columbus.
I wonder how old is the Dow. There are artifacts found in Eastern Africa depicting ships with sails as far back as early as 3000 BC. Boats as early as 5000 yrs ago. Oldest canoe found in Africa was in Nigeria dating back 8000 years, cut out of African mahogany found by a fulani herdsmen, near the Yobe river, in the village of Dufuna in 1987. This knowledge of ship building even travelled to West Africa.
exactly, the scale is just enormous, incredible. so incredible in fact that if i were a rational human i would cease to believe in a creator and start beliving in science.
"..the appearance of the lateen rig in the Indian Ocean and its gulfs show a complete reversal of earlier scholarly opinion on the direction of diffusion, now pointing to an introduction by Portuguese sailors in the wake of Vasco da Gama's arrival in India in 1500." the europeans show them how to make their sails not otherwise
You can't use every part of tree to make a seaworthy vessel. You need big boards to build a big vessel. The outer portions of trees grow the big boards. All good things take time.
in those peoples mindset the world could just have meant the place they live in this still happens in a lot of locallized cultures. aluminium cannot be made by hand tools.
I have no idea to be honest haha. I'm not a preacher or anything :) I think pretty soon before the flood...and I think it was with the help of God that Noah and his family were able to build the Ark.
that was your mind. the mind is powerfull. youre never going to stop this thats fine but i'm going now cause i cant waste my time on this. theres work to be done.
So, instead of nails they used things that act like nails, and they made a ship in a place that is known for making these ships "without plans"? Wow, that's not exciting at all.
im afraid it doesn't work that way. the flood itself is impossible. the waste from the animals is not manageable, the boat doesn't match the measurements given for the ark or its position. its no that they want to disprove, its is disproven. some people just wont accept the reality. 2000 years of this and we have had enough.
Lol, so what, Mt. Sanai exists. There are a lot of mountains on this planet, it doesn't prove that moses talked to an omnipotent invisible spaceman through a burning bush... unless moses had just got done smoking the river reed, then it makes sense :P
those events were still only local according to all the records i've seen. i tried that hypothesis for a while.. i have reached the idea that part of the reason it seems that everyone had flood myths has more to do with the topography that's good for farming before we learned how to modify other areas. the best place for agriculture with east trade routs happens to be in floodplains of the various rivers of the world. seroiusly though this vid is about making a boat.
all anyone has to do to dispell the myth of noahs arc is to ask. where did all the plants go? no one mentions plants. never mind the fact that there are upwards of 10,000,000 species in total on the planet. how'd they all fit in a bloody boat? i cannot believe there are people on this planet who think its at all possible.
A lot of European sailing ships were designed so not to have to have the wind directly behind them. Where did they come up with this? It took four years to build a ship? I assume they only worked on it Saturday afternoons when it didn't interfere with other activities? Wood pegs and joinery are used all over. The Vikings used nails, but were able to build ships without frames. This is the most underwhelming construction and technology video I have ever seen.
there is an account of 200 flood stories in the world, all originating around the same time. What does this mean? It means that all these other civilization recorded the same thing, a world wide flood. Too find the legitimacy of a historical event you have to look in the events of other civilizations and countries to have the truth relieved too you.
The boat in turkey is just a boat. You misrepresent the facts of the story and call it noah's ark. Not because you follow the scientific method and follow the evidence to a conclusion. But because you start with a preconceived notion and look for evidence to support your idea. Which is anything but scientific.
it is impossible i'm afraid. if you studied ecology and earth sciences you would know just how imposible it is for the world to recover from being totally covered in sea water. thats not to say it didnt happen in one area such as turkey or the black sea. but it certainly didnt happen across the whole world.
kids playing with the smalls ones just loved that

The use of wooden pegs to merge the pieces together..in other words The bonds are going to get stronger and strong with time.. Ingenious!!
Wow .... what a master piece ......
But u don't see ppl making things with hands and man power these days so from them to bring back that tradition i'm damn impressed...
amazing craftsmanship
yup, simply amazing.

Fascinating.
Everyone gangsta till they mount some cannons on deck
not so unusual, since vessels from many areas used 'wooden nails' just like these have done
This is pretty amazing.
Best ships.marvelous.
that is amazing.
it allows us to refine our methods if nothing else and to put our science to the test so we can remain honest.
How was the big ship put into sea ... dragging ...pulling into the ocean?
Sorry, I was busy falling off the turnip truck. I hope I can catch up.

I would think that any being of sufficient intellect would be beyond such things as violence.
I have three and one in a mating phase and theres a heatwave. hell?
People advance society. Belief in Something, no matter if its a higher being or not, is all that is required.
Brazilian flagged dhow!! NICE!

D'oh! now I want one!
Making ships like those… I would spend my life doing that

it was you. you found that strength. have some faith in yourself.
This is so cool!

do you still alive
you are forgetting that these stories are parables intended to teach.
what ever your chosen idol. that denominations are a good indication of fact and truth. good point. im afraid you missed mine.
the wood is so hard and dense that the nail must be hammered home.
Why can't we all just get along... I just want to watch the video about boats! D;
This better than Americas Cup.
Hope they do a follow up once the 150fter sails.

good night
You believe things that are demonstrably false. You have no right to call someone a fool.
its like talking to a child with you
Yes, it's called a ship made with steel and screws.
no youre trying to argue...
ty mr troll logic. that is some logic you got there..
me too
we'll last longer against that star destroyer!
No shit sherlock, it's everywhere on this planet. We didn't know how to separate iron from ore until around 1000 BC however.

where are you getting your information from?
that's more of an opinion rather than factual knowledge
There is this thing called the reply function. You might want to learn to use it.

Awesome ship building. Or is it a boat? ;) Come get some Catspit~! ☠

I think we need to see it sail before we say it is mighty.
2 minutes 30 seconds?? lol Sorry but that's too short.
yes as you've said and I asked so how can you talk about it with those who do?
They still used nails! Tree nails (trunnels) instead of metal nails.
They where showing their boat construction skills. Do you have the skills to build such a boat.I am very impressed with your ignorance.
not to mention some species needed those plants.
So, instead of nails they used things that act like nails, and they made a ship in a place that is known for making these ships "without plans"? Wow, that's not exciting at all.
Can you not believe in both?

just don't get involved. we got this.
Maybe it is, but if he's going to make claims and say they're true, shouldn't he be able to support them?
im happy to let them drool in the corner but when they want to make these claims, I have a problem. you see, I was raised to be honest and hate liars.
Wow.. Africans used the adjustable sail long before anyone else did....

Actually, you don't know what sarcasm is. If you are claiming that your fist comment was sarcasm, then you proved you have no clue what it means.
in malaysia there are many wood houses that had been built without nail
i just wanted to watch a video about boats lol
then explain the appendix or the human tail bone or the giraffes neck or the platypus. I know, you cant.
I dunno, that Star Destroyer is equipped with the ultimate Derp Ray! We'll have to find some way of penetrating those defenses.

and its not a theory. its a fact.
its not an argument or insult its advice. plus, that wasn't at you.

Why don't you go away if you don't like what I have to say?
