Bloody brilliant, love that EE sound!! These locos have the same engine as the Ex. Tasmanian Government Railways X class (which had the 6SRKT MK I, 660 HP) and Y class (with the 6SRKT MK II, 800 HP) The Y class for some reason or another had a distinctive hunting idle.
1620 is class leader of the 34 strong class of English Electrics built for Queensland Railways (Australia) from 1967 onwards. They sound great don't they. The class is now out of service with a few preserved, including 1620 itself by QR Heritage in original livery. The location is Spring Bluff staion on the climb up the Toowoomba Range (west of the capital, Brisbane). The stainless steel coaches were built in he 1960's as electric sets but never made it. Until withdrawn, they were loco hauled.
Not subway cars - SX set. Loco-hauled suburban coaches designed to be converted to EMU operation, but never converted. Spring Bluff is west of Brisbane, Qld, Australia, on the range climb to Toowoomba.
I think this one is a 6cylinder, sounds like a 37 I agree, funny how 6 and 12 cyl sound the same, suppose the v12 has 2 exhausts, like the class 20 sounds same as the 40.

Don't know quite what/where I am watching, but this pure English Electric tractor thrash!
Definite EE class 37 pedigree there - put a 37 body on it and you would not know the difference. Magical sound!
Hellfire! Can we get all 5 preserved 1620s EEs out onto the mainline please! ;-)

I cant believe how that one train years ago could pull 30 wagons
838bhp, 6srkt engine, like a 6 cylinder version of the engine fitted to class 73 in england.
I think I can see what you mean - they're pretty short compared to most above-ground commuter trains.
@northlanderdude
