Thanks! You saved me a lot of time. I went straight for the DRL module and that was my problem. Just unplugged it and everything works fine now, - plus I have the option to turn my lights off completely now ;-). DRL are legal requirement in Canada, so they all have them up here.
I wanted to thank you so much for this video. My headlights would flicker when turned off. After my battery died, I knew something was really wrong. I first replaced the headlight switch, after removal, the spring in the coil had broken loose, it was a mess. After replacing the switch I still saw the headlamps remained on… I saw this video, went directly to the daylight running module and sure enough, it had started melting as in your video. I removed the wire connection, placed a small plastic sandwich bag over it, taped it up with electrical tape to protect it, and tested it, no more problems! I was thrilled! I am not a mechanic by any means, but a 23 dollar switch, watching your video, plus my time, I saved a ton of money! Thank you!

Have this problem with a 2005 F150 that was owned by a Utility Company... after doing a lot of clean up work on it with a pressure washer. It is about to start getting dark earlier & I will need my headlights to get me home from work. Do you know if you can simply bypass the module and still use the lights at night? When I disconnect it, the lights do not go on at all. Is that because of the fuse? Or can I make a jumper? Thanks Steve (2006 e350)
Great vid. People don't like to stop and pull wiring diagrams. But taking the time to read a diagram and apply some common sense often saves a lot of wasted time on pinpoint tests.
Have you ever seen on fog light stay on at all times? I have a 2014 fusion hybrid and the left fog won’t shut off with car on or off.. I’m at the point where I’m thinking it’s the wiring harness. Thoughts?

My Ford F-150 2001 head lights and running lights would not go off and I had to disconnect the battery to shut them off, so I prayed to God to send his angel Mechanic to help me fix it and my prayer was answered. This is how it happened; While my truck was running I disconnected the battery the negative cable only, then turned the truck off by the ignition, then I read the owner's manual on the fuses and pulled out fuse # 15 that deal with the headlights and reverse lights, and transmission switch. I then connected back the battery negative cable and tested the lights and the headlights had gone off and the light switch was operational on/off working. I turned the ignition and put the shift in reverse but the reverse lights did not come on, so I put the # 15 fuse back in before I started the truck and tested the light switch and all the lights were working again including the reverse. Who could it be but God sending his angel mechanic, bless his name forevermore. I am not a mechanic my truck is working again
I wish you had a video explaining why my 06 F150 Lariat's daytime running lights won't turn off. Been searching EVERYwhere, found a few vids that were irrelevant (pulled the relay by the front headlight). Guys at F150 forum think it MIGHT be in the PCB behind the back seat.

I have a 2007 Ford F 150 XLT 5.4. My lights will not turn off like you showed in the video. However I am having a tough time finding the DRL module. Do you by chance know where it would be located ? I also do not have a fuse panel like the one in the video. Mine is on the passenger floor side and I checked all the fuses and like you said, when I pulled left and right out the headlights went out. Right now the battery cable is disconnected and I can;t figure this out. Help please ?

Mystery- older 5.4L the light switch works fine. Turn truck on the lights come on with switch in off position. Turn truck off- lights shut off in 5 seconds. Cant find the problem. Why after all these years are the lights coming on when truck is started up ?

Now all lights out......going to go check number 25 and 31 fuses. I will look for a the daylight run box. but do not have that I do not think, anyway. This is a little off topic..sort of....Motorcycle fanatic when I was young. Headlamp on.... all the time...... was the law in Canuckistan. The Canadian Rebels (Harley Boys ..very few because Canucks liked Sport Bikes..) used to cheat it and run with no light. Cops could charge them if they wanted to....Here's the thing: and an observation of my own...without the headlamp on, the vehicle becomes harder to see in traffic (especially in an intersection!). So i have learned to appreciate the logic. It freakin works..I was anti DTRL at first...... Years later i live on a border town and I see our Yankee friends with no day time running lights on their cars and of course not on their Harleys..They are hard to spot especially if their vehicle is grey or silver in colour...Just wanted to share that! having said that..my friggin 2006 F150 SCREW has her lights on permanent and I have to fix ASAP..Thanks for tips.
best not mess with the cops on lights it got 17 year old Deven Guilford killed ,7 shots one to his head by a cop in Eaton County sheriff's department Michigan. the cop was on bright lights because the OEM module kicked it on. So Ford wiring is bad on all models
Here is a silly question, or maybe not. I own a 2007 of the same model. Mine is equipped with a DRL module. Is it possible that this unit is providing power to the AC clutch? My AC stays on even when the engine is off draining the battery. When running the AC stays on causing the air flow in the cab to stop because the little AC radiator is blocked with ice. I did put a seperate wire connected to a switch and ran it out to the fuse that controls the DRL module and AC clutch (Same fuse for both). This allows me to cycle the AC clutch on and off so I can maintain air flow. Is it possible the DRL module is back feeding power through the fuse to the AC clutch relay keeping it on? The AC works great It just never turns off. Thanks for your help.

FordTechMakuloco I found it and pulled the plug, lights out and they work manually with the switch. It was not hot or melted but was separating in the area yours did. Thanks

I'm having the same problem on a 2009 E350 I still can't figure it out I don't see that relay on this one and this one don't have daytime running lights but headlights won't shut off it happen when I was looking for parking light wire I messed up by putting power in switch to see lights up that was the right wire I put power in because I had wire diagram but not sure why it stay on now
@@meccasmith we figure it out it was the headlight switch we just put a new one and that did fix the problem. I guess when I put the power into switch I guess it burned switch out it's weird that the lights stays on even when switch is unplug but it did turn off after putting new switch I really didn't think that would fix it but it did

Macmillium the 5.4L 2v engines do spit plugs at times and should be torqued higher yes and you will not have a problem then.
Does it also affects the 4.6l 2v ? If so then people should not wait for the 100k miles spark plug service on these engines.Thank you for your answer.
4.6l 2v yes but the 5.4 is the absolute worst for this.

My 2000 F150 lights stay on with that module removed. Only time they go out is without fuse #6 from under the hood. I cant figure it out
