Adam's a true artist and a hell of a nice guy... spoke to him after a show on a quiet night for half an hour, just before "Lost in the Dream" went huge.
My friend’s band supported them here in Bristol, UK back in 2008 and we all hung out backstage and smoked hash together. Like you said he’s a really genuine person, and always seems to have time for people, and a gear nerd to boot
I always enjoy rig rundowns. It's interesting and enjoyable to hear people talk enthusiastically about their gear. Also nice when the unsung heroes of the big shows get to come out from behind the scenes and explain how they've got the show set up and how they take care of the equipment.
I love his shirt in Nothing to Find!!!! And Robbie' s shirt and Dave's shirt! Please make them for me and gift them to me lol! See BBC Radio 6 Music , The War on Drugs, Nothing to Find
Can you do an entire episode on his Firebird? Just have him play it and talk about it for like 45 minutes and I'll watch it every day holy cow it's beautiful
I just recently got into this band . Adam is a pocket player who plays in a band context . There is something sonic with feel with a smooth assuring grip on the wheel. He understands equipment and it's tool usage!!!! Great rigrundown . Great Band. I am a FanBoy.
I keep hearing he uses a bun runner too so I came here.. but his theory on the electra pedal is making my nerves go crazy I just wanna go back in time and correct him so bad
I loved this interview and of course the War on Drugs. Some of the best production I've ever heard on their last 2 albums. Totally hifi. Live was a a different story and I thought the sound was drowned out/lost. Was hard to hear his vocal and the venue is known for class sound. I'm wondering if his combo with the perpetual trem going on and reverb is problematic. Nonetheless he rocks and hope they keep cranking killer tunes.
Exquisite sound, this guy knows his pedals. Great to know he uses the same Hardwire pedals I do, even though his sound is more like a shoegazey approach to the legendary Great American sound (even though he uses British HiWatts :P )
Hi @PremierGuitar, can we get a Mark Kozelek Rig Rundown so we can keep the feud alive? I would just love Mark to really let Adam have it over that Hendrix strap. Here's hopin'. x
+YearLongBender kevin has a mad rig, vintage rickenbacker and a jazzmaster with a synth pickup, his pedal order is really fucked up too. It would be a good one
iJohnnyZac but it's already covered extensively the only reason we need it is to hear from them selves why the use what they use and in which songs. i just think its a bit of a waste but id still watch it
i love Rig Rundown, and this one is GREAT!, but why don't they ever actually play a few notes/chords while stepping thru the pedals and amps? It'd be cool to hear the rigs, at least at the beginning or end of the video. PS: (i'm a huge WoD fan and Adam seems so nice and cool. They were fantastic on Austin City Limits recently.)
Love me some Rig Rundown! I(we) can fantasize what guitar(s) I(we) hope to have someday and amps etc. For now I'm stuck playing one electric acoustically. Better then nothing and contributes to creating! I put some of what I create on my channel.
At least you're creating. I imagine there are plenty of people who have mountains of gear and don't create at all. If you find yourself in a situation where your guitar is amplified with effects applied here-and-there, I hope you'll still Create!
Would be cool if the interviewer said "oh cool, very cool" one or two more times. Cool?....cool. Barring that, enjoyed the rundown very much, thx for posting.
This is one of my favourite RR's along with the two J Mascis! Can you please make a second rundown with The War On Drugs, with the second guitarist and bassist too? Adam being the gear-head he is I suspect he's got some new stuff! Rig Rundown made me a gear-head, both a curse and a gift :D
I think john bohlinger (bolinger?) is a great host, he lets them do the talking and isn't completely oblivious to things. He's quite an accomplished musician. No matter who you put on these rig rundowns, as soon as its posted they are basically thrown to the wolves by all the people who believe they could do better behind their keyboards. Nothing will ever satisfy people. If you think you can do his job better I suggest you contact premier guitar and forward them a resume right away.
Endezeichen Grimm I don't really need to argue with you about this, if you can't debate something without resorting to calling me an idiot we are both wasting time. I think John is a good host, deal with it.
I took a count on the number of times they both said the word "cool" in this rig rundown, and they said "cool" 284 times in the 37:28 time of this video. Both men could use a Rigorous tutoring in the dynamics of the English language...ya think?
Great rundown, but too bad this was from right before he adopted the Jazzmaster as his main guitar. That's been a huge part of his live sound since and I would love to have heard him expound on that in the way he does for some of the others here.
At the risk of sounding like a pedal pendant...Electra is a diff company than Electro Harmonix They made guitars in the 70s and 80s with built in effects Phaser was one of them This ped is that circuit in pedal form Great phasers btw
Proof positive... He chooses not to run his 50 watt and 100 watt amps on stage, cause they overpower the band's mix. If he can't run those amps in a venue that size, then nobody needs amp power at that level. I'm not hating on high power, and understand they probably sound great cranked up. But its 30 watts or less for me on all future amp purchases.
jimmy would run his strings backwards thru the tailpiece and wrap them OVER the top which reduces the string angle. Makes 11s feel closer to 10s and easier to play. Bonamassa does it on his bursts as do many others..
Adam's a true artist and a hell of a nice guy... spoke to him after a show on a quiet night for half an hour, just before "Lost in the Dream" went huge.

@@tompoynton very cool story
Damn I had about a 15 min Convo incredible guy...
I always enjoy rig rundowns. It's interesting and enjoyable to hear people talk enthusiastically about their gear. Also nice when the unsung heroes of the big shows get to come out from behind the scenes and explain how they've got the show set up and how they take care of the equipment.
Such a cool, laid back dude. Adam is one of the greatest of our times.
I can't believe how cool he makes that denim jacket look.
Pro tip: it's all about a good fit in the shoulders and a short torso cut.
I love his shirt in Nothing to Find!!!!
And Robbie' s shirt and Dave's shirt!
Please make them for me and gift them to me lol! See BBC Radio 6 Music , The War on Drugs, Nothing to Find
I can't believe you made this comment
I can't play guitar, really only know the main makers but I really enjoyed this! Thanks
You guys need to do a Slowdive rig rundown
another favorite rig rundown !!
fantastic artist and so chill and humble !
and yes we want a kevin shields rig rundown !!
This has become my second favourite Rig Rundown, after Nels Cline.
Agreed
Daniel Lanois's was up there for me, but this was great
Absolutely stunning setup 🫨
Can you do an entire episode on his Firebird? Just have him play it and talk about it for like 45 minutes and I'll watch it every day holy cow it's beautiful
Rig Rundown - Tame Impalas' Kevin Parker?
agree
agree
Agree
i think the episode will be very long :D
agree
such a cool nice and modest guy, really enjoyed this one
He brings A LOT of pedals, but he uses them all. Love him
This rundown was so much more enjoyable than the a day to remember rundown I've watched before.
One of the best Rig Rundown's. Crazy cool setup!
This is more complexity than my brain was designed to handle. Like the console of a fighter jet plus a microwave oven. I like the guitars and amps.
Love this band. It's a real treat to see how it's put together like this.
John is seriously one of the nicest guys in the business! Great rundown with lots of gear to geek over :)
Man, that Firebird looks THIN!
I just recently got into this band . Adam is a pocket player who plays in a band context . There is something sonic with feel with a smooth assuring grip on the wheel. He understands equipment and it's tool usage!!!! Great rigrundown . Great Band. I am a FanBoy.
What's a pocket player?
This guy is really important to me right now!!!
Old Town Music shoutout! (and Hank). Portland represent!
Dude’s just a musician in every way possible
This is amazing. Seen them the war on drugs at the crystal ballroom in Portland and was blown away by their sound. Thanks for this. I love these
I keep hearing he uses a bun runner too so I came here.. but his theory on the electra pedal is making my nerves go crazy I just wanna go back in time and correct him so bad
Yeah Adam's seems like the coolest guy in rock, I wish him so much happiness. ps I had a fender endorsement, they're a good crew.
Thanks for the ride.
Can you guys do a Spice Girls rig rundown?
Thanks
awesome, a kurt vile rig rundown would be awesome
Please do a 2022 update!
a 75db boost! thats a lot of boost!
I loved this interview and of course the War on Drugs. Some of the best production I've ever heard on their last 2 albums. Totally hifi. I'm wondering if his combo with the perpetual trem going on and reverb is problematic. Nonetheless he rocks and hope they keep cranking killer tunes.
Saw them in 2011 and felt the same, but saw them a few years after that and it was better.
Exquisite sound, this guy knows his pedals. Great to know he uses the same Hardwire pedals I do, even though his sound is more like a shoegazey approach to the legendary Great American sound (even though he uses British HiWatts :P )
I was surprised to see Hardwire stuff.
I have had the same Hardwire digi delay for years and was pleased to see some of the other same gear as is in my board.
nice gear and sweet guy. Doesn't he look a bit like a younger jeff tweedy?
dude i didn't even notice that wow ur right
“Sweet?” Penny Lane said: “you’re too sweet for Rock and Roll”
Hi @PremierGuitar, can we get a Mark Kozelek Rig Rundown so we can keep the feud alive?
I would just love Mark to really let Adam have it over that Hendrix strap. Here's hopin'.
x
I take a shot every time John says "cool"
William Bierce are you still alive?
Really good in depth Rig Rundown!!!!! Rock On!
so sickkk,thank you for this.Amazing musician,great pick.
can you guys do one with Kevin Sheilds
+Alec Feldherr That would have to be a feature-length film. ^_^
he'd probably spend 10 years preparing for the interview too.
Yes
LOL! Good one
HAHA!
Tame Impala next!!! That would be huge
Yes yes yes yes yes
no thanks its everywhere on the internet dont want to waste a rig rundown
+YearLongBender kevin has a mad rig, vintage rickenbacker and a jazzmaster with a synth pickup, his pedal order is really fucked up too. It would be a good one
iJohnnyZac but it's already covered extensively the only reason we need it is to hear from them selves why the use what they use and in which songs. i just think its a bit of a waste but id still watch it
+YearLongBender i suppose so, but same could be said about pretty much all rig rundowns
i love Rig Rundown, and this one is GREAT!, but why don't they ever actually play a few notes/chords while stepping thru the pedals and amps? It'd be cool to hear the rigs, at least at the beginning or end of the video. PS: (i'm a huge WoD fan and Adam seems so nice and cool. They were fantastic on Austin City Limits recently.)
I'm really surprised there isn't a chorus pedal on his board!
he said he used one of the memory mans in chorus mode
Earth amps! I remember them back in the day! We had a Earth PA in the band that was just awesome.
Nice Electra phase shifter. That was from Richard's Music in Lawrence KS. A great store full of old used gear.
I'm so happy after all of my bitching to see you guys finally using wireless mics!
Always sucks to see the top comments on these videos being more suggestions of who to do next. -___-
Yes 🙌
Tate Richardson Guitar It will be next week's Rig Rundown on TH-cam!
Awesome, thank you!
Beautiful
Wow, me and this guy have really similar guitar taste. These are all perfect.
@Benjamin Richards, we did a video with Bob Bradshaw at his shop: Rig Talk - Bob Bradshaw
Love me some Rig Rundown! I(we) can fantasize what guitar(s) I(we) hope to have someday and amps etc. For now I'm stuck playing one electric acoustically. Better then nothing and contributes to creating! I put some of what I create on my channel.

jrcenina85 Actually composing right now a bit! Got a $60 Blackstar amp. Tiny good quality and price. Nice! Thanks
You know you're a gear nerd when you get annoyed by the fact that he didn't mention string gauge.
FWIW, he's mentioned in a couple of other interviews that he uses .10's.
Check out the White Falcon on "Strangest Thing"
you could make these videos an hour and a half long and id still watch them
wonder if then plugged holes in the back of the headstock have weights in them.
tame impala rig rundown when
Nice, he is a great guitarist
Loved this.
cool gears, good interview. never heard of this band but it really makes me curious and start searching this band on TH-cam :-D
Would be cool if the interviewer said "oh cool, very cool" one or two more times. Cool?....cool. Barring that, enjoyed the rundown very much, thx for posting.
enjoyed this rundown very much, really cool guy!! :D

Adam being the gear-head he is I suspect he's got some new stuff!
Rig Rundown made me a gear-head, both a curse and a gift :D
Such a genuine cool dude!
John Bollenger reminds me of when Jim Carrey demonstrates how rich people laugh.
It's the swept back hair I think.
Lololol
a van halen rig rundown would be pretty cool, even though everyone seems to be an expert on what eddie uses.
They need a better host before they do a rundown of that level.
He is a boring jackass and he is oblivious. No personality and he sucks ass.
Endezeichen Grimm well you're clearly a better fit and I'm sure premier guitar will see that from your comments and hire you right away.
Endezeichen Grimm I don't really need to argue with you about this, if you can't debate something without resorting to calling me an idiot we are both wasting time. I think John is a good host, deal with it.

Rigorous tutoring in the dynamics of the English language...ya think?
To be fair, there is a lot of cool stuff on the stage.
That's cool, but there were some hot guitars as well, along with some smoking rigs....all very cool too....
You may well be right. But at the end of the day you're the one that's sat there for nearly 40 minutes counting the word 'cool'.
Cool
How cool is that.
IV BEEN WAITING FOR THIS RIG RUNDOWN FOR SO LONG!
By the way, Bolinger is the ultimate guitar chad every guitarist needs in his life.
'Oh Cool'
dude didnt listen to a thing adam said lmao
I know John cops shit, but I like the guy. It's not easy to develop a seamless rapport with someone you've just met.
Two ways to realize how long a minute goes by, 1 do planks, 2 watch rig rundown vids that are 8 mins
3:57 good reflexes, guy dodged a close swipe at the head from the guitar.
Almost posted the same thing. Was wondering if someone else caught that Hahahaha
" beautiful piece " 😂😂😂 great episode as always
12 clean boosts? I mean I have a big rig but that's outta control
Is there a kurt vile one of these
+funkyfacewash there is now
Check the year on the deluxe, I thought the pancake bodies ended in 78?
kurt vile rig rundown?
Why is that White Falcon so thin? What model is it?
FINALLY !
what is this guitar strap with Gretsch ?
Rig Rundown, you should interview Bob Bradshaw -- that would make for a great episode.
dahhh.. but what speakers are in the Matchless 2x12????
Anyone know the exact type of that thin falcon style guitar?
That is NOT an early ‘70’s Hiwatt DR504- those were 4 inputs. My money is on this being an ‘80’s Biacrown. But the 100 watt DR103 looks legit
I hope some day they do snow patrol, Phoenix and Coldplay too
that's a joke right?
Great rundown, but too bad this was from right before he adopted the Jazzmaster as his main guitar. That's been a huge part of his live sound since and I would love to have heard him expound on that in the way he does for some of the others here.
Agreed! They need to do an updated one with him
At the risk of sounding like a pedal pendant...Electra is a diff company than Electro Harmonix
They made guitars in the 70s and 80s with built in effects
Phaser was one of them
This ped is that circuit in pedal form
Great phasers btw
i wish we got to see that white guitar, he was too busy looking at it, he never showed it to the camera
Adam frickin Granduciel!
Host does seem a bit like he’s just trying to get to the end. Kinda makes me bored. Love Adams guitar work tho.
When would anyone need that many pedals?
Uh ... your sanity is showing.
Do you even listen to the war on drugs?
What about the jazzmaster? Thought he was a huge fan
75 dB boost? Can't be, right? 21.50
Rig rundown- Temples? Twin Peaks?
so. good.
super killer rig for sure...
The whole enchilada
what does he mean when he says wind it jimmy page style at 3.29?
jimmy would run his strings backwards thru the tailpiece and wrap them OVER the top which reduces the string angle. Makes 11s feel closer to 10s and easier to play. Bonamassa does it on his bursts as do many others..
Also done by Billy Gibbons
Dude, John Bohlinger is jacked bro!
Anyone know what the opening song is?
red eyes
my kinda of guy right here!
