Première joueuse depuis Serena Williams en 2013 à avoir réalisé le doublé Madrid-Rome, Iga Swiatek veut continuer à marcher dans les pas de la légende américaine en remportant également le Grand Chelem parisien pour réaliser un triplé historique. I’d say the Osaka match just demonstrated Świątek is in-form, & ready to compete at the highest level. I don’t think she was slack at all vs Osaka. Naomi was terrific; she hit 54 winners vs Swiatek, for goodness sake! Iga battling that onslaught w/ 37 of her own, was underrated.

Iga’s domination of the game at the moment reminds me of Steffi Graf as well. No similarities in game style, but the way she destroys most of her opponents, except Sabalenka and Rybakina, it’s spot on. She seems to have similar personality traits as well. Her main focus is on tennis, and being the best she can be every match. Iga is an introvert. Steffi was an introvert also. It’s wonderful to see that consistency. Now many of the top 5 on the WTA, are striving for similar consistency. The last 2 years we have been watching things stabilize on the women’s tour. These are very exciting times.
I'm pretty sure her last game with Sabalenka in Rome could be called destruction 6:2 6:3 if you think about how close their Madrid game was.
You make some good points but even at the peak, Steffi, my favorite player of all time, had her nemesis opponents namely Seles, Sanchez Vicario and Sabatini who were able to beat her from time to time.

Um, no. Steffi is the greatest female tennis player of all time and by Iga’s age she had already won 11 Slams, including the Calendar Slam.
Swiatek is a good player but she is in the Venus/ Henin tier of players and I think around 7 Slams will be her limit.

@@phantomtroupe8430 That’s not entirely true. Sabalenka, Rybakina and Gauff are not legend players, but they are good and consistent. The tour is a lot stronger now than in 2017-2021.
Andreescu and Halep are no match for Swiatek either. Halep is old and past her prime (and now a disgraced cheater) and Andreescu has not been a top 30 level player since 2019. That was 5 years ago.
@@akizaizinskii sabalenka has been a top player since 2018 and was never able to be in the top 5 until all those players left the scene. Just last year Saba had 300 double faults. Sorry but no way she should be #2 in the world with such a horrible percentage. Rybakina and Gauff came a bit later after Covid but Rybakina has had mixed results since 2022 and just barely started getting consistent this year and Gauff is still unsure of her game. She doesn’t know whether she wants to be defensive or aggressive yet. And don’t forget that Halep, Barty, Osaka, and Andreescu were the only players to beat and dethrone Serena and they were the top 4 right before Covid ruined everything. If Covid never happened the big 3 would be Osaka, Barty, Andreescu

Unfortunately, the French audience shows their disrespect, even contempt for the top women players by their poor attendance at their matches. It is disappointing to see rows of empty seats when Swiatek, Sabalenka, Rybakina, and Gauff play. These are exceptional athletes and competitors. And they are gracious, likable champions. The French crowds' bias is especially evident when they pack the stands for lower ranked male players or French players. But many of us around the world do appreciate the magnificent accomplishments of these outstanding young female athletes. They deserve far better treatment than the indifference of French audiences and the disrespect of the tournament director Amelie Mauresmo who schedules these matches.

But Steffi's footwork was truly unique.
If we give her a 10 for her footwork the other top players were and are only in the 5-8 range.
Even though her rank is No 1 right now. She hasn't won Wimbledon yet. When Steffi Graf was ranked No 1 she already won the Grand Slams in 1988 et stayed No 1 for 377 weeks. She got the titles 7 times and won the French open 6 times. I don't think that the actual female players will win so many titles because they are not as versatile as the legendary Steffi Graf.

The first time I saw Iga play, the resemblance to Graf struck me. Not in the results or physical resemblance or even the game but just the attitude on court, the intensity, the introversion, the focus, the efficiency, the speed with which she moved on to the next point, no wasted movements etc. Graf was never a media favourite. She didn't play the media game and since most of tennis media that time was heavily American, the bias towards Seles and Sabatini for obvious reasons was strong and against not only Graf but also other leading players like Sanchez-Vicario, Martinez, Novotna etc.
