  • Very little is known about the Punans. Today, they number a few thousand and live in small groups scattered over an immense territory in the primeval forest of Borneo.
To survive in the jungle, the Punan had to invent their own hunting techniques suited to their environment. But when a wild game is killed, they always adopt the little orphans that they find: monkeys or otters then become members of their families.
From the documentary: "Master of spirits - The world of the Punan"
    Direction: Jean-Michel Corillion
    Production: ZED

“How small men is in the face of the plant world”. It is absolutely beautiful and refreshing to learn that in some corner of our planet there is a people that revere nature and posses knowledge that modern man, with all his scientific advancement has yet to attain. Part of that knowledge is knowing that we as human are a minuet part of the amazingly beautiful puzzle that we call nature. In the words of the native people of the Americas, “the earth doesn’t belong to us, we belong to the earth”.

Do they speak the same language as the surrounding tribes? Are there surrounding tribes?
