- The Matis are hunters and live in one of the best-preserved forests in Brazil. They hunt to feed themselves and their method is quite unique.
Using enormous blowpipes, that they have made themselves, they are able to reach animals that are hidden high in the tree.

I'll tell you something interesting about Curaré, the poison they are using. It works by paralyzing the diaphragm, similar to respiratory depression from opioid overdose. But say you were to accidentally jab yourself with one of these darts. If another person were to give you mouth to mouth respiration for about 20 to 30 minutes, you would survive it with no permanent effects. It's also perfectly safe to eat the (cooked) meat of an animal that has been hit with this poison. You don't have to cut part of the meat out.

They correct name is MATIS. I know because i worked wiht them in Barsil, especifically in Amazonas. They are very strong people and really polite when you really know them and you are accepted by them. It was my best experience in that place. ❤❤❤

How do they make those massive blowguns? They're so long that you'd only be able to aim them directly upwards.
Seems to be the idea
They're made from two halves of a piece of very straight log. They first carve matching grooves on both halves, then marry the two together. They then use a long device to bore a perfectly round hole using the grooves as a guide completely from end to end. They keep the two halves wrapped together as they slowly whittle away until desired diameter.
