Wonderful performance! Mr. Pollini follows carefully the markings of Chopin, with abandon!! He does not begin at the highest volume possible and wear us out by continuing thusly through this magnificent piece! His performance was magnificent!! Not, merely "wonderful" as I stated first. One can tell he has absorbed the glory and varied sounds of this creative composition down to his bones. He breathes life into it -- never shying away from the tender moments of quiet contemplation -- always the forward pulse we feel, awaiting each surprising section. He does not make the egregious mistake of playing fff from the first chord, continuing all the way through to batter our ears forcefully, in hopes of winning our hearts. He plays with an easy finesse given his flawless technique -- shaping the. composition beautifully, with much nuance -- bringing out each gorgeous moment Chopin writes. He does not blast us with a final chord at the loudest he can. I find I have done him a disservice by attempting to form words for his brilliance and resonance. He well-deserved the honor bestowed upon him!! Bravo!! Bravo!! Thank you, David, for this moving beginning to a great day!!
