Love the Tesla talk, for me what boggles my mind is money is an invention, quite a good one, as a medium for trade, but when the medium becomes more important than ideas which benefit humanity on the whole either because A) they pose a financial threat to established systems of order or B) because they're finite and therefore more difficult to monetise (infinite energy source) then you've got to start asking, WHY is this medium (money) more important than the technological evolution and wellbeing of our species?

You should rap about the patent system too Ren, if you haven't already, the way they can simply buy and shelve ideas. Again, money is more important than progress. In the end you have tons of money, debt, buying tons of trash. The solution to all our problems is love, but the technical solutions to our day to day material struggles are shelved by fear.

As someone coming from “the left” of the political spectrum (whatever that even means anymore), I enjoy y’all’s commentary. Ya seem to be open minded and less divisive than other folks who talk about these things. So even when I don’t agree, it makes it easier to listen to what ya have to say. When others start every conversation by talking down to the other side then it immediately puts folks into defense mode and creates the division we’re seeing today. Anyways, appreciate y’all and loved the reaction!

The funny thing is to me, a lot of what they say ends up more left of centre than the average in America - still WAY to the right compared to my personal politics, but reasoned and considered, and I would love to have a few hours to discuss the topics with them, challenge their ideas as well as listen to their reasons, :)
Guys - if you created a specific political podcast channel, make it interactive so we can talk ok? :)

Same here. Especially being a UK 'lefty'. It can be difficult to listen to some of the more right leaning American reactors because US-right and the linked conspiracy stuff tends to be pretty far out compared to our equivalents. (Though of course a lot of it comes this way eventually.)
But Don and BP try not to be condescending or mindlessly divisive, which makes it an interesting conversation even if I reach a different conclusion sometimes. I wish more discussions could be as even handed; we might actually be able to move society forward if we could get past the tribalism and support ideas instead of picking sides.

American politics have shifted so far right, that someone like Bernie Sanders is considered a radical leftist, when he is only slightly left of center to the rest of the world.
Biden would be an 80's republican.

Word! I agree, though the conspiracy mumbo-jumbo can be hard not to react to but I respect their civility, so try to refrain from blasting the comments with “you said WHAT?!”. Usually anyways 🙈

Ren is a genius and his art sparks conversation. Everything he does has substance to it. That’s why he’s blowing up and that’s why his music resonates with so many. He’s an intellect well beyond his years and has the ability to speak on REAL ISSUES thru his unique special ability with music across the spectrum. His voice is so needed right now and he’s just on another level than everyone else in the industry. So grateful for Ren.

The fact that I listened to the whole thing should tell you that you are on the right track. Nothing that Ren said in this song was surprising or controversial, but it got you talking about the issues, and that's the point. Reactions to bland songs are themselves bland content.
This wasn't bland, it was stimulating conversation about an artist who has something worthwhile to say.

Just a correction regarding “women sent to jail for posting rap lyrics” in the U.K.
No one was sent to jail, they received a fine and community service. And it was later quashed on appeal too. (Thanks to another commenter for pointing that out…I’d missed that bit in reading the real story)
The reason for the case being brought wasn’t for “posting rap lyrics” it was because of the context and use of the lyrics which made its use offensive.
    Specifically, a young black boy died following a hit and run from a car hitting him on his bike. The 19 year old woman posted the following and claimed it was paying tribute to the boy dying;
    “kill a snitch n**** and rob a rich n****.”
That was seen by someone and a complaint made that it was extremely offensive in the context of commenting on the death of a 13 year old black boy.
The defence tried to confuse the case by claiming that use of the N word is common in rap lyrics, and that somehow, posting that lyric was “paying tribute” to the boy.
The court didn’t agree and judged that the post was made to cause offence. Note, it wouldn’t matter that it’s quoting lyrics, or that it’s the N word, it’s the context and being judged to have been intended to cause offence - that’s the crime she was found guilty of.
It’s important to not take such stories out of context and misrepresent what it says about the legal system and free speech - just because such stories are picked up and used by certain groups to argue that “they’re coming for your freedom”, it doesn’t make it true.
(I’ve often followed up claims of silly laws to the actual cases and the judgements etc, and 99 times out of 100; the reality has been lost and the actual legal case and judgement makes complete sense - there are some rare exceptions, such as the guy who was frustrated that an airport in the U.K. was closed though snow and he joked he was going to blow it up on Twitter - and despite the context making it clear it was a joke, he actually got fined for it - so sometimes as the quote goes, “the law is an ass”, but in this case, once you understand the context of the case, m’eh, seems justified the woman got fined to me - I’m surprised to learn it got quashed later actually, I’ve got to go read why that was now)
Regarding why all the world governments seemed to suddenly take people’s health seriously in 2020 - I think you’re suggesting a money grab from selling the vaccines etc - I think it’s more than that. The virus was expected to kill up to 7% of the population had it spread without any measures to contain it and slow it down - only 1-2% it slowed so health care services could treat people, and even less once the vaccines helped - but it wasn’t ‘saving lives’ that motivated governments, it was the resulting collapse of the global economy if that level of disruption had happened - the level of financial panic, from disrupted production, from everything - it would have made the lock downs and the impact of those look like child’s play. So they did the cheaper thing to protect the rich capitalists etc…which coincidentally helped save millions of lives globally.

    • @sputukgmail
      @sputukgmail ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Just adding - apparently the conviction was overruled on the following basis;
“It's our view that the words which were set out on the Instagram account by Chelsea Russell were thoughtless, offensive and unpleasant.
"But it's also our view applying the [legal] test that they were not grossly offensive and therefore this appeal is successful."
      - so the original court had deemed the context and circumstances to mean using the rap lyrics (along with the emoji of a gun and a pile of money) was /grossly/ offensive and hence illegal. The appeals court agreed it was offensive - but not /grossly/ so didn’t meet the criteria for conviction.
The accused maintained that they didn’t mean to be horrible - and that posting it was only expected to be seen by their followers etc…
The case has been decided, but from reading the background and context, I’m left with the impression it was meant to be offensive - and the woman ‘got off’ on effectively a technicality of it not being /grossly/ offensive, because it is a relatively high bar to be convicted of in the U.K. which is a good thing - meaning you have to really try hard to be deliberately offensive before the law kicks in to protect the people you are trying to harm.

My man, the Hegelian dialectic is about how you take two opposing ideas (thesis and antithesis) and bridge them into a synthesis. Then that synthesis becomes the new thesis, a new antithesis arises, then a new synthesis on and on. An extension of this is dialectical materialism, which Marx used to analyze history and economic

The Hegelian dialectic, derived from the philosophy of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, is a method of understanding and analyzing change and development through the resolution of contradictions. The dialectical process consists of three stages: thesis, antithesis, and synthesis.
Thesis: The thesis represents the initial or existing state of an idea, situation, or problem. It embodies a certain set of beliefs or a particular state of affairs.
Antithesis: The antithesis is the direct opposition or contradiction to the thesis. It challenges the thesis by presenting a conflicting perspective or opposing forces. The clash between the thesis and antithesis creates tension and conflict.
Synthesis: The synthesis is the resolution of the conflict between the thesis and antithesis. It represents a new and higher state of understanding or a new state of affairs, incorporating elements of both the thesis and antithesis. The synthesis transcends the limitations of the thesis and antithesis, creating a more comprehensive and nuanced perspective.
The Hegelian dialectic posits that history and human thought progress through this continuous process of contradictions and their resolutions. This process allows for the evolution of ideas and social structures, as the synthesis of each cycle becomes the new thesis for the next cycle of dialectical development.
It is important to note that the Hegelian dialectic does not necessarily imply a predetermined or linear path of progress. Rather, it is a framework for understanding how change and development occur through the resolution of contradictions and the synthesis of opposing forces.

It's interesting how many reactors are very quick to agree with Ren's view of consumerism, while being surrounded by boxes of unworn expensive sneakers and overpriced branded designer clothing and tech. We have all been brainwashed to just accept the corporate mantra of 'more toys means we are more valuable as people'.
As the old saying goes, : -"Buying stuff we don't need, with money we don't have, to impress people we don't like."

Guys. I love your reactions. Not only because you are funny but also because you can talk about sh*t. And I clap at you because it is comforting to see that I am not alone on this. We are not alone, because we are realising that we are more than we thought.
In my humble opinion, I think what's happening with him is that he's opening the conversation and the dialogue when we all want to see everyone's thoughts and feelings on their songs. Butterfly/Ripple effect.
He talks about everything that's untouchable or unspeakable, taboo just to say. Because of censorship and because it is not interesting for the ones in power for us to get educated. Education, economics, politics, history, mental health, domestic violence and abuse, capitalism and consumerism... He knows shit. He's read the great thinkers and he also knows and talks about Tesla's knowledge being "capped". Because of greed. When anything is a threat to their system, they need to stop it.
I bless being born in Europe but you know what I bless more? that even though I had to go through shit in my life that made me go and touch rock bottom and had to think for myself to decide if life was worth staying, with lots of therapy and through all that, the veil lifted and I started seeing all the bulls**t around.
BP I agree with you about Coca-cola/ the big plan on 20 and all that is going on, and everything you say about your voice not being heard because you are not as popular as he is becoming. I found myself frustrated trying to open the eyes of my closed ones, family and friends. It didn't work. I gave up. What happens is that it is obvious to us, but it is not to those who are not ready or don't want to see. "None so blind as he who will not see". But we are listening now, and people are starting to see so I believe this is the right moment to use our voices and the platforms that we have created to be able to communicate globally.
Don, same goes to you and C and N and N targeting him. Sure they will. I am surprised it is not even worse. He drops truthful messages and people are waking up and accepting it. And we are becoming a legion.
I say it again, it is refreshing and brings me hope to see that we are not only 5 friends in the hood and that we can easier connect niches of thought through these platforms. I won't call them a creation of capitalism but human evolution. It is how we use it what would make it better or worse. We need to keep our views positive.
I can talk about this for hours too, I'm 44 too, also agree with Don saying I am happier and wiser within this body now than on my 20s, and I could sit for hours watching you guys talking about all these topics and love it.
BP I'm loving your music too, loving the lyrics and the beats 🤗🤙💪
    🔥
Love and peace to all of you.

Loving your reaction...discussion and all related things. I had to pause it at the 30ish minute mark to comment, because I didn't want to forget my thoughts. While you guys have been talking (30ish minute), in mid screen is Ren's head and the words "OUR political" (my emphasis on our). And that's something I love about Ren's work. I don't hear him separating himself from any political group or country when he addresses these issues. He talks about as something belonging to all of us.
I may be 'Canadian' but I don't separate myself from issues being addressed towards America, Britain or anywhere else. The same core issues simply manifest themselves in different ways, and we are all part of an interconnected web of living and being interacting with all these systems. I really appreciate the fact that you guys are willing to talk openly about this stuff, even though you might get flack from some folks. There are times when you guys might say something that I may not necessarily agree with, and that's exactly when I know I need to lean in further to listen even more actively, and not distance myself or turn away.

Great link to the CNN piece - Ren has challenged the establishment with song like this one, Money Game and several others. One thing he's tried to help illuminate is that it doesn't matter who is in power - the system doesn't materially change, thereby encouraging people to look at what candidates stand for rather than blindly following a party that ultimately sell the same outcome in a different package. Since broadcast television stations have aligned themselves with one side of the fence or the other - the idea that the massive amount of people at these networks who are doing everything they can to keep their position whole and shut down other viewpoints is a valid one.
Modern propaganda is much more subtle than it was in prior years. Like everyone, these networks can see artists through all different methods who are gaining popularity - and will look through their work to decide if they will ultimately help or hurt their agenda, and will find ways to diminish them through other means.
Easier for them to let their impressionable viewers believe an artist like Ren is causing issues by taking a small snapshot of a song out of context than to play this song and walk through the points he is talking about.

Mortgage = deathgrip. The banks buy your house with money they print out of the air. They load the mortgage with interest and tie you to pay more than once for the same think they bought for nothing. If you can't pay they take your only home from you and sell it for more profit.
    It happened to me.
We had already paid the equivalent original amount.

I believe that when the brave people who fight for our country in these messed up martial actions and wars give up their most valuable assets (their health, their youth, their agency) in exchange for their neighbors' rights to speak, often in direct opposition to that same soldier's opinions and beliefs; I feel like the rest of us have forgotten how crucial it is to be civil and kind to those who have differing views than we do.
We don't have to be buddies, but we do have to learn to occupy the same real estate without murking eachother.
I agree also that the elites need us at each other's throats.
The concept dude was referring to about initiating an issue to instigate contempt between groups reminded of the tail wagging the dog. I don't know if anyone recalls that movie these days but it's all about misdirection. Watch this hand with the rose that disappears into a puff of smoke and you'll never notice the other hand slipping in your pocket .

When I first came across the likes of Money Game and this one, I was a bit nervous about how Americans might react because, from my position in UK, I had the feeling that criticism of capitalism could be very unpopular. I have been pleasantly surprised by the fact that nearly all US reactors have actually agreed with Ren's perspective on things

    • @sputukgmail
      @sputukgmail ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yeah - so much of what Ren is saying is anti-capitalistic (he even claims that label in The Hunger) - which is so often dismissed in America as “commie” or “Socialist” as a knee jerk reaction that I feel has been pushed on Americans to think ever since Macathy (that’s not spelt right is it?) my perception of American politics is that anything or anyone who doesn’t take unfettered capitalism as a given, is dismisses as a commie, anti-American. It amazes me that people like AOC and Bernie are seen as “left wing” in America when they would still be right of center with their proposals in many European and Scandinavian countries, so when Ren’s explicit anti-capitalism, which is way more radical than what say the Democrats stand for in America, is generally accepted by so many American reactors…I gotta admit, I’m confused.
Either there is a massive untapped support for socialism and radical alternatives to capitalism in America, or…there’s some strange Venn diagram where music reactors over lap massively with left leaning politics.
(Or - a lot of reactors just don’t like to say things they think would annoy fans of an artist so they go along with things just to fit in and get clicks - and I do not mean BP falls in this category, and I don’t actually think many reactors could pull off the acting needed for this to account for it).
That’s a long way of saying - yeah, me too ;)
Edit: having just listened to Ren interview by Knox Hill, I have to correct myself - Ren does not see himself as anti-capitalist.

One of the things that I've been talking about with others regarding the last couple of years is that, outside of the medical situation of a pandemic, many people and organizations used the chaos and unease to further some truly sinister and selfish agendas. And at all scales. We often talk about corporate greed and systemic problems, but even at the interpersonal level I witnessed what I would call pure, selfish evil be done by those you would not expect it to come from. The pandemic was a big spotlight shining into the dark corners where all of these shady dealings and dark agendas were being advanced and magnified them on a global stage. What a wild time to be human.

I love why you guys do & I am a big Ren fan & I respect your willingness to discuss the issues.
On this one issue (Tesla) I have to chime in though -
Tesla was one of my fathers heroes along with Carnegie, Edison & others who invented things.
The old man was a rebel & a technologist in a world that barely knew what that meant but even he believed that the “free electricity” thing was bogus, beyond being a low voltage parlour trick.
We have serious problems not the least of which is a global power structure run by Big Fossil but not terribly far behind is a disintegrating factual knowledge base.
One symptom of that is people claiming one thing or another is true even though they have never read or understood a peer reviewed scientific paper on the topic.
I’m not an electrical engineer so if somebody produces actual research that says we can run something meaningful from passive ground based current, I’m all in.
Until then I’m with Isaac Asimov who said (paraphrasing to take the edge off) - democracy does not mean that the uneducated opinion is the same as the expert’s education.
I get that trust is hard to come by these days especially online, but if we are at a place where we cannot even put faith in scientific institutions - we are well and truly screwed.

China well who knows but let’s face it the People in the West who slag off China have never been there so they are not qualified to speak on it so be cautious as to what they are telling you about a convenient enemy as we always need an enemy to distract the public from the real shit that the politicians are doing to line their own pockets

ETA: I tried to leave it alone but have to comment- I love your commentary at the end. People often don't understand that the reason everyone talks about the USA when they speak of freedom of speech is because it's actually written in to the foundation of our country in a way that is not in most other countries (but is in a small number of others).
