- The Formula for Brilliant Light Effects and Shadows in Photoshop! In this video, we'll build a warm spotlight and learn how to add shadows to go with it.
Exploring the Lighting Effects Filter, in this tutorial, we will touch upon the type, color, and intensity of light, along with several other properties like exposure and ambient light. From there, we will learn how to make shadows realistic by watching the direction and the softness or hardness of light.

This is a very in depth tutorial, covering many of the things one needs to consider when adding light effects. I have added this type of lighting effect in the past but neglected to include some of the shadowing. Separating the shadows into inner and outer shadows makes it much easier than trying to add all your shadows at the same time. This is a great tutorial. Thanks.

The ring that controls the lighting does not show up for me when I do everything as followed, I dont know how to fix, have looked on google and there is nothing, Im using the 2022 version of photoshop btw if someone can please help that would be amazing.

Superb tutorial. Managed to figure out I need to be in 8 bit mode for my own image, but for the life of me I get no control points to change the shape of the light. Dark screen with a single spot that I can’t do anything with.

@@CKPatel Lighting Effects works on 8-bit/channel images only (i wouldn't risk banding on the highlights when the same effect can be achieved using other methods)
This uses the GPU. Check that it is enabled under Preferences > Performance and if so, click the Advanced button and try a Drawing Mode of Basic or Normal. Restart Photoshop.
If your system has automatic GPU switching, you may want to disable that in Energy Saving under your Mac System Preferences.

I love the videos, but this is the first video I cannot replicate! I have a pretty powerful gpu and understand it needs to be in 8bit. But I cannot even adjust the lighting when I click -> render -> lighting effects.

For all who are getting the lighting effect tab greyed out, thing is picture has to be in 8 bit rate. Even i was having the same problem, sorted it now.

Literally it's called Polar Coordinates. I am pretty sure it's under Filter- Distort

How about doing a tutorial using a more complicated scene, with more objects, depth and obvious lights and shadows? A flat 2d scene is easier.

I'm in RGB/8 bit but still cannot adjust the filter, there are no "handles" showing up with which to move and adjust. Any help please, thank's.

I can't move my lights around at all. What am I doing wrong?
I get so far, but i can't get the ovals which enable me to change where the light will be....
I cant even choose this filter, it is grayed out :/ yes I'm in RGB mode, yes it's an 8 bit image, yes I checked "use graphics processor'" in performance preferences. What can I do ?!? Photoshop CC 2020 here :/ Love your videos Unmesh !!!!

@@MarinaMercy021 Well I did find the reason. My GPU was not capable of doing such render tasks as lighting. That's probably your case too.
I kept getting RAM errors trying this "Not enough RAM". I have 16gigs of RAM. I even went into Edit > Preferences > Performance and upped what Photoshop can use to 10 gigs, still not enough. lol, wtf. I know I don't have the best PC, but its certainly not bad, in fact, I thought it was pretty good.

This apparently isn't available in Photoshop Elements.... Lens Flare, Difference Clouds, Fibers and Clouds, but no "Lighting Effects". $10 a month for LIFE for the full PS isn't worth it. Elements is my only other choice, right (as far as pay-once and own it)?
