- This gliding flight was a dream come true for me as I have been wanting to try flying it for over 10 years. The distance from Nephi to the Grand Canyon is 240 miles each way! Crazy to think a glider can fly there and back from Nephi without an engine and only taking a 1600' tow to get started. It still fascinates me that you got towed up to a mere 1600ft then, with NO POWER, climbed up to 18k feet-ish then flew hundreds of miles, still with no power.
Its like an Alien UFO, no fuel, no power, no nothing and yet travels great distances! :D

Icky he’s not near 18,000. He has no oxy equipment, so he’s well below 12.
WhackyJ in AK we’ll it said in the video he was at 17.5k and he does have oxygen you can hear it at some points. Also the pipe in his nose is oxygen.

Thank you Bruno. Well, that one is going to be extremely hard to beat. 3 miles high over a 1 mile deep canyon. Some great emotions beautifully shared.

I still vividly remember getting emotional on my first soaring flight when cutting my wing through the bottom of a Cu and after completing my first large cross country flight.. you are right "this is living" Matt would be proud!!
I passed my A and B certification in 1959, I was sixteen years of age , in RAF Henlow beds UKhonestly !

I’ve watched a number of videos of yours over the last few days and I cannot believe what you are able to do. I grew up sailing boats and you have to have a lot of muscle memory knowledge of the wind, the vessel, balance, etc., in order to sail well and from that I can tell you have an impressive set of experience and skill. Wildly entertaining, and looks incredibly fun.
Thanks Bruno I watched the long and short version. I loved your movie, we have been at Grand Canyon in 2013 and in Utah this year, so nice to see it from above. I fly in the Netherlands with the Schleicher ASK 21 from EHTW but Holland is flat and the climate is much colder so this video looks more what gliding really is.Jan Netherlands

It looks like your recent "extra ballast" has diminished you skills any! Super flight! I reeaally enjoy your videos... mostly because I spent 4 years on a helicopter seismic crew in the early '80's based out of Jackson. It's super nostalgic to recognize all of the areas of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming you fly. I still recognize nearly every spot you go. Thanks for the memories.

Beautiful! I just watched 'Darwin on the Trail' video hiking the grand canyon. He's an avid hiker. It's nice to see two angles of the canyon.
I have watched your videos for years really inspired me to get my Glider PPL and buy a glider. My hope is this year by the end of 2019 ill start my training.

I have only dreamed of days like this. I got just past solo at 0B7 about 35 years ago , and unfortunately didn't keep up with it. There is still time though.
I'll bet the spark plugs last forever on that thing.
I still change the ones on mine just in case.

And your personal touch is fantastic, I had to wipe a tear as well while you were turning above the tiny little river and seeing the extraordinary landscape, persuing your goal, and saying "This is living". Likely you made it home safely, will look at it at OGC as well assuming you uploaded.

Nice flight...pushed it .... nothing like running a cloud street. I've tried that flight in a Lark IS28-B "Cloud Dancer", only made it halfway and back. Sweet ride.

WOW!!!! 450-500 miles, in a day, without any fuel other than the tow up. That shit right there, is inspiring. You conquered the canyon task, but how do you feel about a Yellowstone and back task?

Just happened upon your channel about a week ago, subbed after first video. I think I'm in love! Gliding looks like great fun! Especially since you're all over my childhood home of 20+ years! I don't think it would be so spectacular here around southeast Texas, as it's mostly flat. :( It just doesn't seem fair you're able to stay up for hours at a time with no fuel! I guess that Bernoulli guy knew what he was talking about.
