Piraeus was my first step on land in Greece. My family and myself were passengers on the SS Australis, a wonderful Greek ship (Chandris Lines)which was taking us to our new land in New Zealand from the UK, this was in 1967. We spent 12 hours there scouting the markets right off the ship then ventured up to the Acropolis and looked down over Athens and beyond. Little did l know we would be back there again within a year as my parents wanted to go back to UK. But the story doesn’t end there. I went back to New Zealand a year after that so l was so very lucky to see Piraeus three times. Sadly l never made it back again as much as l would have loved to. In this video at 2.99 you will see the very famous X on the left of screen when approaching the docks, that is the funnel of a Celebrity ship which Chandris lines was its predecessor when they sold Chandris to become Celebrity. I have been on two Celebrity ships from out of Sydney in recent years. Thank you for evoking such wonderful memories for me. I have saved this video, if l could click like a hundred times l would. ❤

It's great to hear that you and your family are planning to move to Athens! While it's true that Greece, including Athens, is located in a seismically active region, the city has taken significant measures to ensure safety and preparedness. Greece has building codes and regulations in place to construct earthquake-resistant buildings. Enjoy your time there!!! 😎
