no it is because there are cleaning teams sweeping the neighberhoods!!! this is a dumpingground for thieves!! i live near there!! and hope they have called the cops...put a hidden camera ...and then we can "clean up the streets some more by putting those thieves away for a while!!
Have suggested that when they have a safe and heavy things needing a few people to pull up that the anchor should put the rope around their waste and then can use the body and leg strength to pull.

I would really like to know the story behind all these safes. I feel as though the same people were involved in all these thefts. Why other would there be so many stolen safes in such a localized spot? I wonder if there was some kind of power grab? I bet that there is an interesting story here.
I can't speak to this particular spot, but generally you'll find areas of criminal activity (including dumping spots) emerge organically, through criminals essentially talking to each other. As to the specific spots, it's all about the locations themselves - Low visibility, proximity to population centers, low police activity, ability to drive a car right up to the edge of the water, and so on, all contribute to a place becoming a dumping hotspot. And while some of these safes probably were stolen, I reckon a lot of these were just dumped by local residents who had them removed from their homes in recent years. It costs a pretty penny to get a recycler to take a safe off your hands, never mind that you need to first transport it there, or pay extra for them to collect it for you. It's just easier to tip it in the canal and forget about it. Safes, for the average middle class resident, have become largely superfluous. You don't keep any significant amounts of cash at home what with card and mobile payments being so widely used, and you generally don't keep valuable paperwork there either - It's all either digital or in a bank vault. As for jewelry, I reckon it has become safer to keep that in other places, the same as with keeping important paperwork in binders in a book case instead of in a place that essentially screams "Steal me! Steal me!"", meanwhile you may keep your gold jewelry in a box underneath the sink or some other random place. Thieves rarely have the time to search a place thoroughly, they just hit the most likely spots: Wardrobes, night stands, dressers and so on in bedrooms, and drawers in offices, in addition to anything valuable that is left out in the open.
Seemed like a lot of work no real reward. Just a bunch of scrap, empty safes, or empty of value anyway. Old bicycle frames. There's a reason people throw them in the river, and it's not for safe keeping, umm as it were, pun intended

Just a suggestion why dont you get a canvas bucket so you can clean your treasures as you bring them to light and then you can fold up the bucket and stow it in your backpack great fun to watch your adventures Thank you for sharing

You should take a small empty bucket out with you, then you can get some canal water in it to rinse all the river muck off the items out of those safes and make it easier to see what you've got. Less mess on the footpath too 🙂 Great video - how do you get rid of all the safes/scooters etc?

I think they park near the canals, and. LOTS of bikes there, accidents happen. That or they steal a safe, steal a bike to take it to a canal, empty the safe and throw both the safe and the bike in.

Call me old fashioned...but why don’t you tie some knots near your magnet to make it easier to hold when pulling stuff out of the water
I’m assuming it’s because the knots are more likely to get tangled

Knots in your ropes make them much weaker. If you have to pull with truck that's a likely spot to break. Never want knots in my ropes.
