I understood almost everything, but only because I turned the subtitles on. This was such a good interview. I'm Italian myself, and this felt like sitting down with one of my older relatives and asking him about the past. I think the reason why Italians (and Europeans in general) are so fascinated with America is because Americans still believe in themselves, or at least they did until recently anyway. And this was reflected in Hollywood movies, love them or hate them, but they really captured the imagination of a lot of people worldwide. Then there was the Moon landing too. So there's the sense that everything is bigger and better in America, it's where all the cool stuff happens. And I think the two world wars really destroyed the morale of Europeans, too much death and destruction. The only thing America doesn't have, and can't have, is a past, and a culture that's not solely shaped by business.
I had so much fun with this interview! Hope you were able to understand everything,. I got about 70% myself.
