- On the Film Companion Director's Choice at the 16th Mumbai Film Festival,Imtiaz Ali presented Junoon and spoke to director Shyam Benegal, cinematographer Govind Nihalani and the cast of the film which included Naseeruddin Shah, Nafisa Ali and Kunal Kapoor about making the film.

Junoon kaliyug new delhi times all Shashi Kapoor films are beautiful
Junoon and Shatranj Ke Khiladi are my favourite period films.
I don't understand tv not showing old classic like this
Extremely interesting interview. Naseer Sb. shares a lot of actual details of getting into the character.
My ancestors continue to live in Shahjahanpur ( the city famous for Pathans) and part of close family members were part of the Mutiny at Kakori. Family members of Ashfaqullah khan still live there .
Kalyug(1981) is still my favorite Shyam Benegal movie.
Imtiyaz Ali Sahib , Lahore se bht Ziada Salam aur pyar. I am so glad that you once again brought this film to the forefront for young people like me. I am a die-hard fan of Shashi ji, and please do release the HD version of Junoon online too.
I like the way Naseer talks about this preparation for the movies. Nowadays people study and even live like their characters, but in all his interviews, he shows a different way of giving a good performance. Since I'm not an artist, it's interesting seeing all those approaches.
Kunal gave an interesting view about his family love for cinema. Shashi was truly a visionary. It's amazing seeing him doing all kind of crazy stuff in Aa Gale Lag Jaa and then showing that strong obssession for a young girl in Junoon. Thankfully he had the crave for making different kinds of work and used his money to support great projects like Junoon.
I wish Nafisa had talked more about her character and specially the scenes with Jennifer Kendall. Miriam's anguish about that man near her daughter is what moved Junoon to me. If Shabana was present, maybe she would have talked more about it.
I truly like Junoon since my first viewing, when I was too young to even understand what was going on. Thank you for sharing this video.
The most important character played by shashi kapoor is missing! It wud hv bn interesting to hear frm him.
Nafisa Ali is such a beautiful lady. (Also a spitting image of Sonia Gandhiji).
I remember seeing this film long back. I was too young to appreciate any of the technicalities involved. But I still have memories of some of the scenes. And I remember the mood. It was so sombre with these sudden bursts of violence and hint of unbridled passion. Thank you Anupama for letting us know that the film is being restored. I wish more people invested in restoring such iconic films instead of making idiotic ones.
Junoon is an realistic historical movie..... And also in my favorites list...
The Movie is the real gem of Indian Cinema
You are discussing a great Indian period film, and Imtiaz Ali didn't do his homework well enough. The only uncomfortable bits exist when Imtiaz is trying to haplessly moderate it. Thanks goodness the panel present is insightful enough.
Imtiaz looked in total awe of the personalities around, so much so that he forgot extracting the best stories out of either Govind Nihalani or Naseer saab, even Nafeesa had to herself pounce upon the single window of opportunity to speak she could chance upon.

How about restoring other Shashi Kapoor gems like Shankar Dadaa , Chor Sipahi and Chor Machai Shor. 😁some of us love those masala movies more than these “art” movies!
