I’d love to see a video - or perhaps a short series - of “The Boss” felling a tree in the woods, loading and transporting it to the mill, “The Girls” milling the timber, marketing the lumber - then to the customer/builder/ artist and the finished product re: shingled siding on a building, framed structure, cutting board, whatever! Keep up the good- and safe- work! 😊
Hi Emerald, I've done many things in my life and one long job was as a fitness trainer and strength coach. A bit of advice...When you and/or Jade use the cant hooks, you want your hands to be as close to the end of the handle as possible (especially on large logs). It's a matter of physics. It'll give you more leverage...Plus, if you set the hook as low as possible, you can bend your knees and drive up with your legs as well as push with your arms...Both will save your back. @@caryharper9190 You've got that backwards. Seasoned wood, at equilibrium with it's climate, warps very little. Unfortunately, if those logs have not been seasoned for a long time, the boards will warp.
Well it did fit... The skill of the mighty Emerald who never lets anyone down. It shall be done. As for Jade as pretty as she is.. She has some really serious focus going on there. The little brother is shy to boot, standing next to big Sister. All in fun it great to see your skill in action. Video editing and lumber milling business skills, which is super impressive, never mind hosting and reporting skills keeping trade secrets a secret and still getting the message across. The Boss man and Boss lady taught you well on that aspect of the business. I can see you all going along way as family business.
He's already tough. But I know exactly what you mean, I also had an older sister (only one!) and it was sometimes a life and death struggle. Judah, if you can't speak freely, blink your eyes 5 times on the next video, and we'll send the National Guard to rescue you.

Yes, pity to make 1 x 4, love watching these videos. As a woodworker I'm often frustrated by an inability to find the size of lumber I want. I would think in this day and age some local mills would have internet orders where I could order what I want for pick-up. Or even better delivery. Here in the PNW in Washington I'm surrounded by mills, but most won't even talk to you for small one-off orders those who do charge a fortune, yeah, I know it is that mill set-up thing. Some will do "retail" sales but inventory is never what I want.

Loved the guest appearance by Judah, the fleeting glances by Roxy and Teri. Miss Emerald you say you and Miss Jade trade off when working the mill yet for the last several videos with you girls operating the Mill you are the operator and Miss Jade is the swamper. Ken Emerald said several videos ago in the cold weather the 4 degree blade is better then the standard 7 degree blade in this weather your facing now which cutting degree is working better? Granted any blades sent will go into inventory but it's better to send what you need now.
That was one sweet log. I find that logs that are to big for my mill are easier when you slab them with the Alaska Mill, then cut boards. My mill only handles 24", but the Alaska Mill lets me take very large logs, and make them manageable.
Your brother is a absolute mirror of Boss, your dad. I see he is a bit camera shy but will come around as all you young movie stars have become. Nice to see him, maybe now he will get more into the sawing up and splitting firewood. It may look offencive to cut large trees into one by fours but (a lot of but's) but you do whats necessary to make the mill money. Plenty more trees to use for any dimension thats needed. I would say the hardest was you girls getting a tree like this on the saw deck
I am sure that you ladies would look like high society in the proper dress, yet having the blue collar backround makes you so much more desirable. Some guys are going to be in heaven when you give your souls to them! It's a beautiful thing! I'd be proud to know you! God Bless!
another great video. The TurboSaw can handle any size log. Really gives you options of cutting and the mobile units can go to the big logs. Keep the videos coming
Turbos definitely have their place and cutting hemlock framing lumber may be their sweet spot. However, what I would call an insurmountable downside is the inability to cut hardwood logs to grade.
I think that you all should make a blooper reel, like video of you both wrestling the big log or other behind the scenes funny stuff. If you have the time. Good work as always tho. Keep it up.

The 70 is the exact same size as the 40.
Same size mills. That’s what’s so great about Woodmizer. The 40 is the same frame size as the 50 and 70.

Better off with a Binford 6100 board stretcher. More reliable and will do it MUCH quicker :D

It's not seasoned wood. So will tend to keep it's shape.

That very first cut on a log normally people toss them out. But people use them for log cabin siding.
