Sports broadcasting legend Bob Costas discusses his career and the state of how the NBA is today with "King Charles" hosts Gayle King and Charles Barkley. Aired Jan. 31, 2024. #CNN #News

NBA overcompensated when they cracked down on the rough & tumble era highlighted by the Detroit Pistons "bad boys". The owners wanted it b/c they didn't want their mega earning players to get injured by teams like Detroit that had no layups rule, they would absolute hammer you and tackle you like the NFL to not give up an easy shot. NFL has done the same thing, you can't touch a QB hardly without getting a roughing the passer. Even if a QB runs the defense has to go 3/4 speed b/c if they slide at the last second and you touch them it;s a personal foul.
The players are more talented but damn there is no concept of defense in the NBA and the players also don’t bother to play it The games are also damn near exhibition games like the All Star Game. They need to get the refs be less lenient on the foul calling and allow some toughness back into the game
He blames the players then reels off reasons that have to do with the commissioner, league officials and coaches. The players can only play the game according to the rules set out for them. "Defense is different." -- Euphemism of the week.
So true. How do I know, I am one of them. Worst generation that ever existed. Why? It negatively influenced Gen Z, even though Gen Z doesn’t want to end up “like us.”
Too much scoring to the point where it’s expected for a superstar to score 100 points. There’s no excitement because defense is no longer the foundation. Athletes are getting more talented now and that’s okay. NBA just needs to be creative in finding ways to make the game exciting and competitive again. It’s not by scoring 100 points because it’s saturated now. Probably make the court bigger and create a four point shot.

Gayle is insufferable.
is Charles Barkley a host on CNN all the time now, does he do actually news broadcasts and politics, or just sports segment?
NBA overcompensated when they cracked down on the rough & tumble era highlighted by the Detroit Pistons "bad boys". The owners wanted it b/c they didn't want their mega earning players to get injured by teams like Detroit that had no layups rule, they would absolute hammer you and tackle you like the NFL to not give up an easy shot. NFL has done the same thing, you can't touch a QB hardly without getting a roughing the passer. Even if a QB runs the defense has to go 3/4 speed b/c if they slide at the last second and you touch them it;s a personal foul.
How did millennials ruin the game when it’s the baby boomers that made all the rules? The players aren’t the one changing the rules, the owners are
The players are more talented but damn there is no concept of defense in the NBA and the players also don’t bother to play it
The games are also damn near exhibition games like the All Star Game.
They need to get the refs be less lenient on the foul calling and allow some toughness back into the game
It's a product doctored for excitement
This show needs its own subscription. These two are great together
Nah- typical bs narrative
Charles should know when to shut up and let their guest do the talking. That's the reason their show started in the first place.
9:25 😳 wtf is she talking about 🤣
Why is this just coming out of it was done during the superbowl?
Ironically (Taylor Swift) is a "MILLENNIAL" as well because her birth year is 1989?!...
Two gentlemen that love the game
Great job Gail!!
Wow Barkley slimmed down
CNN should sack this woman for negligent incompetence
Let Bob talk, quit taking all the time & allow the guests to speak & tell stories
The NBA has too many teams and play too many meaningless games. Reduce the games from 82 to 70 tops and drop to 26 teams instead of 30.
We need to see the Chuck Tyson clip.
Adam Silver, Curry and the millenials ruined the NBA. F the NBA.
