Ha, I stumbled upon your channel looking for a review of Halo96 V2, watched some different reviews and boom, here's the review I've been looking for. Perfect timing!
its such a good bang for your buck board u get so many extras. and everything just works as intended. once they start selling removable top pieces then it will really be unstoppable and can't be matched with quality, features and speed of the BT. i had a zoom98 and yes quality wise its great but the BT is so slow to connect. and also, there is no need for a screen that takes up extra battery.
i have the v1 and the v2. i like the RGB options better on the v1 actually. but wow. the v2 is the most pleasant typing experience ive ever had. i have been in monkeytype nonstop since i opened up the v2. im a tactille guy- i love my rose glaciers.. but man that Lemon switch is the best of all worlds. I also bought a set of raspberrys, i think i'll try them on my v1.
Loving my Halo75 v2, upgraded the firmware and wireless has been solid. The RGB is truly amazing. My only issues is that the front is a little high and I would like a 6.5% or 7% angle as 5% is too low and 8.5% is too high for me, getting use to the 5% though. Excellent review! Based upon the 75 if I needed a 96 this would be my recommendation as well for anyone who doesn't want to build. Switch wise all are a little light for me but those I have tried, raspberry and lemon, were super smooth. I have Baby Ks v2 in my 75 which makes it just slightly more audible. As someone who has GMK on most boards I really like the caps, so much so I put their caps back on my GEM80 as well.
@@BookClubDisaster 21.3 mm in the front then a 5% angle without any of the feet opened. Think that is about ~40mm in the back if my math is correct. I would prefer closer to 18mm in the front like some of the Neo boards. Halo75 has pretty much stayed on my desk since I got it though for what that's worth over the others. I really like this keyboard quite a bit.
@@MarbsMusic Thanks. What do you mean by "snappy" tactile exactly? Are the lemons more tactile than browns? My big complaint, like a lot of people, is how linear browns usually feel.
@@BookClubDisaster I don't see where I said "snappy" in my description but I'll try to expand on the thought. The lemon switches are far and above normal "browns" in my opinion. The bump is definitely more defined but not drastically or anything. They are just a little light for me. My go to switches are WS Heavy Tactiles with a 70gf bump or Gateron Baby Ks (2.0) which I believe is only a 59fg bump but a longer spring which makes them feel a little more tactile (I put 22mm springs in my Anubis as I loved the sound but wanted more "fee"). The sound on the lemon are good, not as loud as the Baby Ks or as deep as the WSHT more in the middle. They do pop on bottom out which you would want on these keyboard as they are quite muted and creamy sounding as built so a little louder switch really makes the sound great. The Raspberry sound really nice as well if you like linear. I put some Yunzii Blue Grey in my GEM80, they are really loud, but in the GEM80 with all the foam and gasket mount they sound amazing! If you like tactile and wanting something that simply feels a little more substantial than browns but not too heavy, I think you will love the lemon switches.
@@MarbsMusic In the video you said snappy at about 8:10. But thanks for the very detailed description! Just waiting for mine to ship. Ordered on Saturday.
i got both the Halo96 and the Halo96 V2 with raspberry switch (just arrived today) and I’m telling you, it’s a huge difference, I screamed when I typed it, i have finally found my dream keyboard, it is creamyyy and smooth but still a bit thick like the sound you’d hear with ceramic keycaps but a little brighter and it just sounds amazing, although the spacebar sounds a little quieter than i’s like but lemme tell you it just sounds 100% better than my halo96 overall
Just got it and its incredible. I wish the Halo around the keyboard was even brighter but the keycaps, the build quality, the high input latency (according to Rtings) it's just phenomenal keyboard. The color options are incredible. I almost wanna buy another one in black cuz it just looks that good. THOCKY even thockier with just the stock Mint switches than the Aula F99! Just order it and distract yourself for a week or two while it's on its way
one thing I would love to hear you comment on please; how is the Bluetooth connection when entering a long string with this iteration? I ask because my Nuphy V2 will regularly drop characters from a string (nothing crazy, about 25 chars total) over a Bluetooth connection while sitting on top of my laptop if another device so much as decides to use a Bluetooth connection nearby. (this is with the latest firmware which is supposed to fix this bug)
I would prefer the Halo96 V2 because of VIA for remapping vs. the Aula software which I wasn't a huge fan of. From a hardware standpoint they are both nice options and the F99 has a little bit more room because it's an 1800 layout where the Halo96 has the compact 96% layout.
Yes, the white color option would let the most light through the case out of the color options. Even the light green option shows more of the light compared to the black color.
Just getting into the hobby, this looks like a great one to just get to start with to see what I like in a keyboard. I am just curious if I get this or the 75, could I replace the keycaps with any that fit a cherry profile no matter what switch set I go with when I order one?
Yes, you can! Lots of MX keycap profiles will work, cherry profile, OEM, SA, XDA, pretty much any profile of keycap other than low profile caps will fit.
Hi Jeff, since you seem to know a couple of people in Nuphy, any chance you could get at them to bring out an Air V3 with an exploded 75% in an ISO format? Pretty pliz? Only low profile option I’ve seen atm is Keychron which looks and sounds blah… ETA: plus a silent low-profile switch as well...
Belay that, just discovered they’re debuting a new low profile - aluminium Nano 75 something or other which looks very promising esp cause its highly customisable. Waiting to hear your take on it as I start saving up for the $200!!WTF!!!
Frankly, when it comes to ISO vs ANSI… I’m German so I thought the ANSI layout would be a no-go for me. Turns out I actually very much prefer it over ISO. The long Enter key is amazing because you don’t need to move your right pinky finger as much, and the larger left shift key is frankly also really nice. At this point, I ain’t going back. So, maybe you could give it a try if you don’t want to wait for an ISO version.
Bought two boards from nuphy. An air 60 and air 75. I use a mac and both are buggy as hell. Keyboard periodically freezes, esp if you mess with the rgb lighting. Ghost keystrokes. Press down arrow twice = page down. Std response = update firmware. I have…. Same issues…
I don't see how the layout is not Nuphy's fault because they made the choice for ultra compact layout. Adding a bit of space between the alphas and the numpad wouldn't change the fact that it's a 96% layout. I assume they chose this layout for space saving and portability. I have been resistant to Nuphy boards because they just don't seem special and are slightly more expensive than other similar keyboards. I can tell they spend a lot of their budget in marketing because everyone and their mom released a Gem80 review at the same time. I like the change to translucent bottom for the Halo series but I'm having a hard time paying that price for a plastic keyboard when I can get an aluminum keyboard for the same or less. I'm waiting for the Leobog 1800 aluminum prebuilt to arrive right now. That's going to be hard to beat. Have you thought about trying more similar keyboards to compare?
Keyboard with num pad must have all num key caps properly labeled and address this con will stop corners cutting and would make this review perfect. Thank you.| PLS make a tutorial video what NUM key does?
Immediately got rid of mine, also had the cherry silent switches. so mushy ( basiscally dead silent no feel,) no knob, mostly plastic case, no barebones option. Also be aware, you cannot change the lighting of the "halo underglow" with VIA software, only the stock fn key presets are available for this. Also, no windows key is included??? I tried to get a return from Nuphy and they beat around the bush and said i should sell it or gift it to someone...
I've had a 75 v2 for a few months now and have had no issues with the feet or rubber stops on my board. It's constructed well and I'm happy with the overall quality of the board I received. I only say this because the 75 v2 and 96 v2 are pretty much the same board, and I don't think most people will have that problem.
Ordered mine today with lemons. Can't wait.
Damn .. those Cherry Silent are what I've been looking for all of my life.

Halo96 V2 is such a charm to use. Mint switches are thocky, feel and sound great.
I pre-ordered this with the lemon switches, and I really like it! I switched out the keycaps to the GEM80 Obsidian black, though. Looks great.
