Keep going, SpaceX, do NOT stop now! Keep building rockets, keep putting them in space. Fly space crews to the ISS or wherever they need to be. If NASA can't do the job of getting people into orbit, then YOU do that job and do it well. God Bless, and good luck!

So badass watching these old videos knowing what the company is achieving today and planning for the future. Falcon 9 is a work horse, launching with ease, landing at landing pad or drone ship, and then doing it all again. BFR refined concept and on the way, already going to replace the yet-to-be launched FH... Love it.

It is impressive, but they did a lot of early work with even smaller crew:
      From an October 2003
article: "SpaceX is about 30 people and what we do internally in SpaceX is we do all of the design analysis, integration of hardware, testing and then launch operations. But a lot of the heavy manpower stuff like welding together our primary structure, the heavy machining and so forth that we outsource, so we'd be a much larger company if we did all that internally."
From a November 2005 article: "SpaceX right now has about 160 employees, including about 40 working on propulsion, 30 on avionics, 30 on structures, and 50 in manufacturing. Musk said he that while he would like to slow down the rate of growth the company has experienced since its inception over three years ago, he envisions that SpaceX could grow as large as 400-500 people, but no larger. “Companies do change once they grow beyond a certain level,” he said. “Once everyone doesn’t know everyone, the company becomes slightly different.”"

Or have you never looked at it? Take your thousand pounds and invest in a telescope, then you can believe your own eyes.

Elon is so overcome, he's speechless with the success of this rocket on it's fourth launch.
Now we know this was make or break financially as well as with credibility for potential customers and NASA investment.- Go Elon, Go Spacex

Meanwhile, in 2021, there are still people saying that SpaceX "will fail", as though they hadn't already made history, and thus succeeded, in 2008.

We just launched inspiration 4 all civilian crew that's always been there goal from day one besides going to mars. wow what a long way they've come.

ok i guess that counts. So Pegasus was the first air launched, and CSXT was the first ground launched. However CSXT did not orbit a full rotation of the earth. It went up, and it came back down just a few miles away. It looks as if this project here made a full orbit or more around earth, thus making it the first privately developed vehicle to make 1 or more full rotations within Earths orbit.

Incredible video. Space X has come a long way. I can't wait to see the future of space exploration. Thank you SpaceX

SpaceVidcast recently became a TH-cam Partner channel. Original content, lots of views, all that stuff :) As such we can upload longer videos, which is great for things like launches. Takes us longer to get it online, but I think it is worth the wait.

a launch that changed the course of spaceflight in the 21st century.
I keep revisting these falcon-1 launches ocassionally, after seeing the umpteeth falcon 9 launch and landing.

Incredible watching this in June 2021, as Starship is preparing for its first orbital flight. Thank you Eric Berger for documenting all of this.
Another 12 years and where will we be? I'm excited to find out

Saturn V, which could launch 260,000 pounds (120,000 kg) to LEO, also uses RP-1/LOX. Soyuz also uses RP-1/LOX, no fatality so far.
Liquid hydrogen has a lot of problems. Because of low density, it requires a lot bigger fuel tank, which increases mass. Also safety issues for manned missions.

Seriously? These people privately developed a rocket that launched a payload into ORBIT and all you got out of this is that there's an incorrectly grounded audio source and some feedback?

Remember Falcon 1. 4 flights to make orbit with something they hadnt done before. Starship is an order of magnitude harder to make work, but they've gone up an order of magnitude in experience. If they make orbit within flight 4 with Starship, that will be an impressive feat. I can't imagine what Starship will be like when operational, even matching Falcon 9 in cost and speed would be an achievement on its own!

Beautiful launch, awesome achievement by the then-fledgling company.
Nice to see (or hear) that they let the employees watch and cheer it on even then. That really makes the company much more human to us outsiders.
