You folks are too arrogant to appreciate what this is all about. Of course, either of these fine organists can play the piece as solos, but the point here is to demonstrate how the two organs can be in dialogue!
mark cooke, Indeed. I’d love to assume there was some sort of way other than their ears to keep them, as we say, vertically aligned. It was also imperative they weren’t playing each others ranks since it’s all one instrument, which was a simple obstacle.
I haven't really studied the West Point organ but I've heard it many times. I believe Dr. Friedrich Mayer designed it but not sure. I think it's too large, does not sound unique or very good at all. It just does not have the quality of sound that many other large organs I have heard. The aeolian-Skinners are so beautiful for the most part. I haven't really heard a bad one. The one at Riverside is heavy on slush but that's what Fred Swann and virgil wanted.
why wouldn't the the Christian Science Mother Church count as a Church? Its a Church maybe not to your liking but still a church and it counts and their organ is in the top 10
Chesterbarnes1 - The Ruffatti Organ company built this one instrument. It is simply controlled by two consoles. Currently, it is being restored and it is planned to be fully playable in Summer 2021.
@@badynwoodford The Ruffatti Organ company combined it's original instrument, added the 99 ranks from the 1962 Aeolian-Sikinner from NY Philharmonic Hall and moved it twice, restored it twice enlarging it for it's current location and added dozens of Walker digital sounds to create the instrument that already plays in Christ Cathedral, seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Orange County, CA.
🤔☝🏽I did think about what Dr Schuller Claims About That No Other Place Other Than The Crystal Cathedral Was Awful Arrogant and Pompous To Say. There’s Several Church’s Around The World 🌎 That Have Even More Magnificent Pipe Organs. But that’s not Important. It’s What He Claimed That got my attention would you not agree! Loved 🥰 The 2 Very Well Known Organist. What A Gift 🎁.
Just curious... those aren't two separate and distinct pipe organs -- one in the balcony, one in front? Or is it one large instrument controlled by two consoles? If that's the case any church or concert hall with a large enough organ and two consoles could perform this work. In that case Dr. Schuller's assertion that one could only hear this at Crystal Cathedral would be incorrect. St. Patrick's in New York City has a large Kilgen controlled by a console in the balcony and a console in the chancel that also plays the chancel organ -- both organs controlled by both consoles. So this piece could be performed there as well.
+kraftpr Depends on what criteria you're using. I'm sure both are very complete instruments in their own right. The fact that you can play either from a single console doesn't really mean anything. For example, if you installed a large 4m instrument in the gallery and then some years later installed a smaller 2m organ in the choir but made it so both could be controlled from either console, would that mean there is only 1 organ? No.
I agree and I also agree to your comments about the WP organ and the Riverside organ. Unfortunately, I wrote a reply to your comments to me but, I lost them, for some reason. I left the region in 1993 so I haven't heard the WP Chapel organ since about that time except on you tube. Subjectively, I just don't like the sound of that organ. The building itself is a fortress. I preached a service there once without music unfortunately. Skinners, BTW are gems in my estimation and with all their variations, I invariably recognize them immediately. The one at Riverside is one that I've heard many times and do believe that it is very beautiful. You're right that i haven't heard about the organ there after Fred and Virgil left. The one I know the most about is the old Skinner at Trinity Church Wall Street. I used to help with tuning once in a while. Too bad it's lost...or is it? Can't really tell.Storage?
Kraftpr+ He said in ANY CHURCH. please listen correctly. Remember this was broadcased when? Yes things have changed since then, but you need to focus on then, not now.
I'll have to disagree. He did say you could not hear this in any other church except Crystal Cathedral. Possibly sonically it would not be the same but in another venue with two consoles and an adequate instrument the work could be performed. That was my point.
Greg- you must not have noticed that there are two organists playing. The whole gimmick of this performance is that they keep passing the music back and forth between consoles. That's why you see one person stop playing but still hear music; the other organist is playing at that moment.
TheJakeman789 - Given that Dr. Swann is approaching 90 years old soon, I’d unfortunately assume his physical condition is deteriorating. He is still in his position as Artist-in-Residence at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Palm Desert, CA. He has cut back significantly in his role as University Organist at Redlands University, especially so after having his final two students graduate. Hope this information is helpful.
Patrick Henning - I haven’t seen Dr. Swann most recently to tell his actual physical condition. I am not trying to disrespect anyone, I am simply stating what I know and making an educated guess. I’m sure he is still going strong now, however, again, I was simply inferring what the case could be. We wouldn’t know without talking to Frederick himself.
@@badynwoodford Actually I would know. I spent 2 days with his last summer. Aside from having some chronic issues with his hip, he's in amazing shape. I just know that if someone ever said "how bad" I looked, it would be incredible hurtful and very poorly worded.
I saw Fred in September and November, and he looks terrific. An absolutely remarkable man - I envy his stamina and his energy. An inspiring man of great modesty who has given so much to promote love of the organ and sacred music.
To professional organist and perhaps some musicians, this piece is beautiful. But to most people including all those applauding ( god forbid) it was just a bunch of noise. 'The organists are verry good and talented, but a loud rendition of Jesus Saves would have been more appreciated....for sure.
How sad. Another vile, ungodly, idolatrous worshiping of the organ and organist instead of Almighty God that no true Christian organist or church would tolerate, standing and applauding vs the self-effacement the true God requires, not the sinful idolatry of man of the Crystal Cathedral. God save us.
Ahhh the good old days - the original organ in good form played by a master! Just wonderful.
Now we have in Poland in one basilica in Lichen 4 pipe organs with 5 consoles, main console have 6 manuals!
Clever transcription of the Dubois into a duet ..... I love the Grand Choeur.
Love it. Get up every morning and play at least twice! ❤️
Incredibly wonderful!
Wat zou Theodore Dubois hiermee blij zijn geweest!
En misschien kijkt en luistert hij mee vanuit het Hiernamaals!♥️
Peter Biacchi another master of the organ console
Brilliant.. the heavens are telling us the glory of His love and greatness
great performance!
Marvelous!
The piece actually starts at 1:21
Glorious
WOW

It's also amazing how they both cope with the time delay with the actions and still keep in sync with each other! Wonderful

First Congregational Church in Los Angeles also has one organ with twin consoles.

@richardharrold9736Fred Swann was the Master here.
@@theodorebiele5201Fred played an all-Bach programme for my wedding on the great Riverside organ, In June 1969.

I do enjoy the Palms, though.
Hello Fred
Just outstanding! 2 Large powerful Pipe Organ built by Casavant Pipe Organ Company of Canada !!!!! Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!
Ruffatti built these I believe.

David Hottel - You’d be correct. One of their best projects, right up with Coral Ridge Presbyterian.

That's the problem with Kilgens, they're unified.

James Richardson I fast forwarded the ministers waffle and hadn't realised he introduced two organists!
***** I don't blame you lol :)
***** I will also add that sometimes, organists can duet with themselves if they have an organ that has a record/playback functionality.
James Richardson If I had that facility at my church, I'd pre-record everything and have Sundays off :)

Chill bro
It’s for TV and it’s in California. There is some showmanship to be sure. I do not think Schuller’s take on Christianity demanded asceticism.
You’re an utter and complete fool. People like you have no clue what you’re talking about.
These 2 gentlemen are very good at what they do!! It sounds like there is just one organ playing, but you can hear the 2!!
