Every single time my family tells me we're going on a trip somewhere, the very first thing I do is assess what birds will be in that area at that time of year...I'm a little addicted, haha! I've been birding ever since I was 5 (I'm 21 now) and I've enjoyed every minute of it! Ok, maybe not getting eaten alive by mosquitoes and horse flies😂 Loved the video!
:) lol My GF keeps talking about moving (I can go wherever)... and every time she mentions a new potential place, I have to open up eBird to see what cool birds are near there :)
Came searching for birding content with this kind of energy and this is perfect! Although they're really interesting, a lot of the videos I've seen about birding on here are purely informational
That was Fantastic and Hilarious Bob 😊😂 Does not having a pair of Swarovski binoculars disqualify me as a birder? 😂 I still adhere to most of the other definitions. I can identify a lot of birds by their song and I do travel to specific areas to see certain species 😊 I got one more thing to say...Everybody's Heard About The Bird..Bird Bird Bird..Bird Bird..You know the rest 😂 LOVE YOUR CHANNEL 😄
@@virajgunarathne9284 Mine are 8.5 x 42. In general, I find that there are few birds I can't identify at 8.5 that I could at 10. My wife has 10s, and she disagrees with me...of course.
Got me, 43 years a birder, I’ve got a Crossley’s and I’m in the UK. What makes me a birder, I watch you! Fab videos that make me laugh, keep em coming.
I basically never consider the difference between a "birder" and "bird watcher"..... But I often consider the difference between "birder" and "bird photographer", which is what I am. Earlier this year, I traveled by car, 7700 miles, and slept in my car, for 30 days, to do bird photography. Took 30K shots, and got 42 lifers :) So yes, I'm pretty serious about it. But for myself, I don't even consider a bird a "lifer" unless I get a shot worthy of my Flickr page. Glimpsing a bird hopping between two high treetops means zero to me. Only hearing it means nothing either. I don't want to tell you about a bird I saw, unless I can show it to you too :)
Well, I don't need to tell you how starting a TH-cam channel changed my life. It's hard enough to get a good photo of a bird. Getting a good video is awesomely frustrating most times. But fun!
We haven't bought airline tickets solely to see birds, but there's not a trip we didn't take advantage of birding!! Along with the rest of the list, it turns out we're birders!!! Love the show Bob!!
Haha! Agree- but, I've been playing with idea of doing something to promote 'birding while broke' as I hope it's possible to be a birder without having disposable income.
It IS possible. Many are close to home and it takes very little equipment to see them. Nowadays, I do travel to see them, mostly in North America, but most of my birding happens right here at home. There are a lot of good birds hiding nearby. Just have to know where to look - and learning where to look is part of birding.
I knew I would like this channel before eve watching. So, does traveling from Virginia to Machias Seal Island count? I wet to photograph mating Puffins in June of 22. What about traveling to Georgia to photograph Roseate Spoonbills. I usually travel to Assateague Island the day after Thanksgiving for the bird migration. I have only been a Birder for a few years, and I have a Life List going. I found a particular web address to be extraordinarily helpful. Yes, I am a Birder. I really enjoyed the Harlequin. I have an appointment for help with Birding; it is the day after Thanksgiving. Thank you for sharing.
It was inevitable I would become crazy about something someday. I'm just glad it turn out to be birds. And I have a whole folder of video taken in Chincoteague. I love all the mid-Atlantic NWRs and plan to hit some again next month.
I'm up to five now. Will likely add more to my total this winter. They can be hard to find, but their tracks aren't, and you can figure out where they are.
Definitely a birder. A birdwatcher would never be distracted while driving a tractor. I've got one friend who laments becoming a birder because now he's not paying enough attention when hunting deer!
I feel I am a cross between a birder and bird watcher. As I gotten up in years I am less interested in birding frequently. Instead my serious birding happens when I go to a certain park to find a certain bird based on its call. I was tracking Acadian flycatchers in northeast Ohio this way which satisfied the birder in me for a while.
As I've gotten up in years, I know mostly everything I hear. Nowadays, it's like walking with friends. Sometimes I don't even bring the binoculars. I just listen and smile.
Here's mine: If you've spent hours on a lakefront/oceanfront in the dead of winter trying to find a single rare gull among thousands of ring bills, you're a birder
I have three cameras for different purposes. My primary video camera is a Canon Vixia HF G50. I use a DJI Osmo Pocket Plus II for certain shots. My still camera is a Canon 80D.
Ooh…yeah…um… I’m going to have to go ahead and sorta disagree with you there, Bob. I think it’s generational also. I feel like we were all birdwatchers, going birdwatching, back in the 80s . But now everyone is a birder and I, at 57, feel ridiculous calling myself that. Anyway, this birdwatcher loves your videos!
No. I don't chase much. I jinx it for everybody else, knowing it will leave minutes before I get there. Besides, there were three in Texas when I happened to be at a birding festival in Louisiana a few years ago, so I'd already put it on my ABA life list. Oh, yeah, I need counseling.
What about: how many bird apps do you have on your phone? ( I have 10.) and what kind of camera equipment do you have to photograph birds? How many birding organizations do you belong to? And how many birding podcasts do you follow?(I have 7). How many bird feeders do you have (I have 5, including a Birdfy-feeder with a motion activated camera.). Am I a birder… or a birdwatcher?..NEITHER! I am the third species, a bird photographer. I don’t just want to see Birds or hear Birds. I want to photograph birds. And yes,Im obsessive about it
And if you have to charge up your phone on the drive to see birds and then you take a battery pack with you because the battery will die from using all the bird apps.
....if you're disappointed your combination whale-watching/puffin cruise spends too much time whale watching and not enough time looking at puffins.... Yeah spouse and I just got called out REPEATEDLY, thanks, LOL
They want to change the names of birds that are named after people. Some of those people were pretty unsavory, and besides, naming animals after people is an archaic practice that doesn't help to describe the bird.
"Too late, you're a birder. No birdwatcher would click on this" One of the best intros I've ever heard!🤣
I confess, I have a weird sense of humor.

I'm the same way, I just try to get us to go to the RGV or SE Arizona!
My university offered a study-abroad trip to Costa Rica for my engineering course... Let's just say I'm not going for engineering 😂
"spending 1000 dollars to identify a duck" 😂
I love that

Actually, no. Binoculars are overrated. Birders can identify birds without even looking, and YOU can do that!

@@Bob_Duchesne And a couple of bird guides in the car to go with the bins and the spotting scope. Oh and the camera...
Great to see you back, Bob! I was beginning to worry.
If you stash a pair of mini binoculars in your purse because you want a better look the birds around you no matter where you are... you're a birder 😆💕
Absolutely. That's a SURE sign of being a birder!
Or in your car
I have a monocular from LL Bean. Surprisingly good optics.
These little swarovski jobs are astonishingly bright. 7x is good enough for most city birds.
Loved this. Thank you.
It was fun, but easily amuse myself.
I guess I'm a hybrid birdwatcher/birder (non-breeding)
I’m a birder but I’m poor 😢
I'm a birder so I will be poor.
Me too. 🙁
If you use a Whale Watch as a mini-pelagic….hoping they don’t see any whales so you get a free ticket…you’re a birder
I've never gone birding before, but suddenly I'm tempted to try this option. Seems like a win-win situation.
Yup. That's me. Unfortunately, my favorite boat almost always gets whales. I have to hope bad weather and fog interferes so I can get a free trip.
