  • Build a natural pond in country living without liner by sealing it with bentonite clay. You can also use bentonite clay to fix leaky ponds. The clay works very well.
    I have another video in which we used 3 tons of bentonite clay to hand seal our big pond -- • DIY Pond in Country Li...
    In this video, we share from start to finish building a natural pond in two days and sealing an old leaky pond that dried up every summer in our country living here. And of course, using bentonite clay is also a great way to fix leaky ponds. What we like about it is that it looks so natural without using liners.
    A pond can add a great feature in country living, not just for looks. A healthy pond can attract a ray of beautiful wild life. After looking at dried-up ponds every summer for over a decade, it feels incredible to see water flowing in the summer heat. This water feature adds so much beauty to our country living here.
    With a total of 3 ponds and using all-natural bentonite clay, we successfully sealed them without a rubber liner. It looks natural and works instantly. We will observe how the clay holds up over time. Meanwhile, I hope my videos will help those who want to create or fix leaky ponds with natural solutions.

    Thank you for stopping by and checking out the video! Let us know if you enjoyed the video. If you are like us, who struggled with ponds not holding water, we highly recommend sealing the pond with bentonite clay. Not only is it natural, it looks great, too. You are welcome. We did not like the idea of using synthetic rubber and liners, which is very unnatural. Bentonite is clay, and is everywhere in nature.

      @@6Acres now the only challenge is finding bentonite clay! I've searched all over the internet and cannot find where to purchase. 50 lb bag is $100, does that sound right?

    • @6Acres
      @6Acres  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, that doesn’t sound right! What you want are Bentonite Chips. You could try local stores that sell concrete supplies, tools, and minerals, that type of store. It should be under $20 dollars, something like this www.texasbentonite.com/bentonite-chips.html Hope this helps.

      Thank you, Bob. Yes, the seat can turn around, but I find it more efficient and convenient to just turn around, as I often need to use the digger and move the tractor at the same time.

    I love how natural and beautiful your pond and yard is! "im annoying the sh*t out of it) luv it. Curious,have you wintered the fish in the pond or indoors in an aquarium?? Or have you had them long enuff to do that??

    • @troyb1733
      @troyb1733 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@6Acres Please be carefull,I wont ask where you live,but if you get alot of snow and freezing, the ice cannot be covered by snow because lite and oxygen cant get to them. Also they HAVE to have it deep enuff and have cover ( an old fallen branch,driftwood )to hide and sleep under or they will freeze and die. I read tons of books on this when I lived in Atlanta so I could build one since theyre winters are so mild. I duck hunt on a pond in central Nebraska that was made of this Bentonite and it was like walking on concrete,it was awesome in waders! Great luck to you and your family!

    • @6Acres
      @6Acres  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@troyb1733 Thank you for the thoughtful comment and suggestion. They can indeed die from freezing if no precaution is taken. We have had this pond for over a decade and luckily, we have some data from years of observation. The pond is deep enough, and it only freezes no more than 5-6 inches even in weather that we consider server here. So, that will be helpful to winter the fish. We look forward to seeing the transformation of bentonite clay when it freezes! Thank you for the good wishes, too! Appreciated!

    I loved how you made this video.
    I was looking for information about a natural pond that I dug two years ago and let it stabilize in a place with a lot of gravel and sand.
    Do you know if it could work on such soil? I'm willing to put more Clay if that would help.
    Thanks

    • @6Acres
      @6Acres  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I am glad you loved the video.
      I am not a pond-building expert, but I believe if you use enough clay and spread it evenly, it should work itself into all the leaky spots. Our pond leaked like crazy until we used bentonite.
      I wish you success.

      I come with clarifications.
      I consider it a miracle, it not only seals it but also stabilizes it, or I didn't expect that.
      On the contrary, I thought it would flow by putting up to 10 cm of clay.
      It takes longer to soften but it miraculously does its job.
      Thank you for the idea, my dream come true !

    Great video!
    What kind of soil you had and how much Bentonite per square feet you used?

    • @6Acres
      @6Acres  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for checking out my video! Not sure what my soil type is. The bigger pond in the video already had vegetation grown, not distinctly any kind of soil. The little new pond had garden soil on the top and maybe a bit sandy on the bottom. Not sure about the square footage. We used about 20 50-pound bags of bentonite clay to cover the bigger pond in the video, mainly on the bank because it was an old pond and probably already had sediment on the bottom, while in the new little pond, we covered the bottom.

    Love the work.
    May we ask what specific brand and size clay medium?
    Thank you.
    We have found shipping prices through the roof today now more than ever.
    I recently purchased some bags of clay to use with the damit polymer for our natural pond.
    Bottom foot hold well but battling heavy gravel. We have ducks to help seal it as well.
    It's going to take patience but I believe we will eventually hold water.
    Cheers from Massachusetts

    • @6Acres

      We used Puregold Medium Chips, which come in 50-lb bags. The chips are about 3/8" chunk size. They should be around $18 USD or so/bag. Shipping won't make sense if you need many bags. We found them in a store that sells concrete tools and materials. What we used are bentonite chips, not powder. You are welcome! Thank you for the lovely comment. You have the right mindset- patience!
