Thank you so much for explaining the process of creating this beautiful roombox. As a budding miniaturist, I wished more accomplished artists shared their knowledge a little more freely, as not everyone can travel to and/or afford their classes.
Amazing work! I never knew how much work went into creating miniature scenes! Thank You for taking us through the work that goes into creating Miniature Art!
It would be lovely to see more of your process in creating day and night modes for the lighting - that looks amazing, and I haven't seen anyone else doing it. 👍❤️
Beautifully done and well designed. I love the mix of traditional and modern elements, masculine and feminine, light and dark. I also like the door partially opened, the curiosity deepens as to what lies behind it. Your lighting is Superb! I usually use a combination of both the tape and the hard wire, but truthfully, the hardwire is The BEST way to go because of all of the unreliability concerns with the tape. I give your Trophy room a "2 Thumbs Up" mini trophy, from me. What a Beautiful Room box and Display!
The floor measures 12 x 24, the walls are about 10 inches high and the wall lengths vary depending on position and angle. The wall intersect at about 33 degrees rather than 45, the normal corner. Thanks for your interest
My wall angles allow the viewer to see beyond the defined real structure of the architecture. The box itself, in most cases is only 12 inches deep and 24 inches wide. In order to create a large enough space for the narrative to take place I am forced to distort the actual space. I am trying to create a space which the viewer determines the dimensions rather than the reality dictates.
Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing. I just built my first room box this year I finished it yesterday and uploaded a video of it. I hope you will come by and have a look. I would love to hear your option on it. The one thing I love the most is the shelfs because they are made with glass microscope slides. Thanks again.
Absolutely wonderful! I checked out your gallery also. Have you ever attempted to sculpt the interior components? I am a little confused by your wall angles. How do these contribute to a forced perspective given the accuracy of the furniture pieces?
I have a doll house kit that I plan to build. I will start it once I complete my Culinary degree. I have no idea about the wiring. Can you suggest any books or magazines that will give me knowledge on building, wiring for my house. You should be very proud of your work. How did you get started on miniatures? Thank you. Chef Kathy
Hi Robert, sorry for my english (i'm dutch :) ) I have two questions for you: 1) Do you think CirKit is a good way to use for your light, or can i do it better like you do, with only wire? (And can i used any light with only wire?) 2) Can you tell me how i can put glass before my roombox? I can glue three sites on it, but the fourth! How do i glue window PVC into a wood part! Hope you know what i mean! :) By the way: You make beautiful roomboxes!
Carkit is good. I buy all my wire from them. It is a two strand wire that is very small and looks like it is just one strand. However it has two copper strands. Just separate them and attach the positive and negative and attache to your electric light. Very easy. I use shrink wrap tubes to insulate the wires. My boxes are wood and I attach the front glass by having the frame shop make a frame and have them glue in the glass inside the frame. (The frame measurements are the exact same size as the width and height of the box) I then attach the frame to the box using Velcro. This works well. You can easily open frame to make adjustments, change furniture or fix something Good luck Bob
I have never made a house. My rooms are really mood pieces and not made for children. They simply stand alone. Houses have never been much of an interest to me. Tough ti create forced perspective In one
There are no good electric books that I have found. They are all too complex or too simple. I suggest that you go to a hobby train store and talk with them. The material on doll houses is all about tape which you do not want to use. Good Luck
Stunning, you are so skilled. This is a fine work of art. Museum worthy!
