  • Maybe you've heard the term "special purpose rifle" meaning there are unique situations a specific tool is needed. Well I'm dubbing the Dragonfly 2 Salt by Spyderco as a Special Purpose Knife because of its weight & material.
    Weighing in at 1.24 oz it enters the ultralight world & the H1 steel makes it tough in almost any environment.
    Would work well as a back up diving knife, in wet/humid environments or thrown in a tackle box.
    Thanks for watching & as always take care

    I live in an area that could be considered just a tad humid for most of the year (south Florida). I've carried this knife at least two to three days a week for going on two years, and it has held up beautifully.

    My Pacific Salt has accompanied me in the water for the past 3 years and has resisted rust fantastically! The H1 lettering on my blade rusted too, must have been the coating they used on that portion. Btw, BladeHQ has the serrated version on sale for $25 for their cyber Monday deal if it hasn't sold out yet!

    looks like a neat, handy little knife. I can never get over how much you and I think alike. I was thinking: "Pepper spray is whatcha need for dogs," and pow you whip out a little pepper spray.

    My Salt 1 went with me in the salt waters of Hawaii last year and my letters stained also. I bumped into a diver who was carrying an Atlantic Salt and his bushings were bleeding red rust. He was a hard core diver though so it probably took more than 2 weeks in the salty ocean to get his results. I filmed my Salt 1 review on location treading water in a lagoon in Hawaii if you haven't seen it already? Its kinda cool to see a review filmed "in" the ocean with a GoPro lol.

    Great video. I also went swimming in the ocean with my salt 1. I left it for a week, un-rinsed, for a week and never saw a bit of rust

    That is a nice blade. I appreciate the comparisons with some of the other blades from other manufacturers.

    these H1 knives are definitely impressive the way they resist corrosion. personally, I like the yellow handle a lot as well!

    Great review on a sweet little blade, excellent saltwater testing, if you can dry shave with it and take out stitches then its a sharp enough edge! Keep up the quality vids Brother, hope all is good with your daughter and her stitches and best wishes and take care my freind

    I guess their usual logic is that if a good person could use it, a bad person would be able to do the same. Even still, never take safety for granted. I just got a new light. Take a look at the Nitecore MT2A. I have the Nitecore MT1A. Sturdy compact tactical light that could be a blunt weapon. Bruises and blackouts work better than slashing. But I do get the uploader. I would use it as a deterrent. I use the Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Salt when I run as well.

    The "rust" spot on the 1 in the logo is from the material used to blacken the laser etching. When this occurs, it will always wipe off with no problem; eventually the logo's black color will fade.

    Thanks brother, always good to see you in the comments. Yeah I wanted to throw in a couple of other blades to help show its size. I probably should have put a quarter or AA battery in there too : )

    Thanks mate! : ) Yeah buddy it's one of those knives when I opened it out of box I said "well this doesn't need touching up" I was curious too about the steel, but it does what it's supposed to do for sure.
    Kat's doing well now, thanks brother

    I do agree that knives, as much as many people carry them for utility AND defensive purposes that it is a lethal weapon. A ladybug could kill. I know anything can be a weapon but it's dedicated defensive items we're talking about. In Singapore, pepper sprays are banned because we're not allowed to carry any self defensive item. Similar places would encourage a knife instead because you can claim it's for utility, food prep, cutting daily items etc. A different context but worth mentioning.

    I believe it, from what I've seen from the Seki-City Spyderco's the sharpness out of box is the best I've seen. (That's speaking only on out of box performance)

    my contention is that a bad person will take what he can anyway he can, thats why it's best to have options, especially ones that won't land us in jail later, but a criminal wont care...the light sounds like a cool one, will check it out :)

    Great timing on that purchase, brother! It got some great use right out of the box -- fine cutting, shaving and salt water, all in the first week! You couldn't have planned that any better for a TH-cam review if you tried :). I can't wait for you to get it dull, lol! I haven't worked on H1 yet, and I'm interested to see how it responds to sharpening. It's pretty amazing steel, with only about .15% carbon, no heat treatment and great functional hardness. It's like voodoo knife steel :)

  • @CampfireTalk
    @CampfireTalk  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah brother pepper spray is my 1st choice. I wanted to show that since the knife is so small & would hold up to in a sweaty environment it could be a last ditch option.
    practical vs tactical : )

    Hey, I have that same tablecloth. I guess we both buy our linens at Home Depot, huh? Funny though, my wife won't let me bring it out when company's over. I guess she wants to keep it for EXTRA special occasions like our anniversary and birthdays and junk like that. (We're still talking about the tablecloth.)

    man, I hear you, it is ridiculous how self defense is forbidden in so many places, where it could effectively lead to less violence in genereal, but especially in the attack itself..I carry a pepper spray BECAUSE I don't want to pull my knife on anyone..I considered it, and decided against it. the moral and legal implications are just too great, but pepper spray leaves no moral implications, and where I live they are legal. anyway, just replying...still..maybe a walking stick'd be better tho?

  • @OLMmedic
    @OLMmedic 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Just a heads up!!! That knife will do nothing to fend off a pitbull under any circumstance. Lol. Yes i know, you said last ditch effort. Lol

    • @ToxicVaccines_HivHoax
      @ToxicVaccines_HivHoax 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      olmmedic --- Do you own a Dragonfly H1 Salt?? If you did you would know the damage that it can inflict.
      That knife in reasonably skilled hands, can separate a pitbulls head from its body in about ten seconds max.
      The down side is that you will most likely get bitten by the dog in the process. That is why it is a last ditch resource.

  • @maczuka
    @maczuka 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    nice, but pepper spray will work better, it will be more effective, you will have no further problems and the dog will learn to leave you alone...not to mention that last ditch means blood, yours and the dogs...no fun
