Very cool that they have an MIM version; it makes so much more sense at this price point. If I were playing rhythm guitar in a bar band, this would definitely make sense to me. Would be able to do pretty much everything necessary with just that and an acoustic amp.

Playing in a few cover bands & duo acoustic, this more than peaks my interest. Why? Sometimes there isn't a second guitarist. So a song that uses acoustic & electric, I sling both, which looks & feels awkwardly cool...lol. Not looking to replace my acoustics or electrics, but to have a blend for live gigs is a game changer. A Boss EQ before amp is on my board going into a wet & dry amps for live. Great video demo and the mention of strings was very important, asI use Martin 80/20 bronze 11-52, which are brighter than D'Addario's I've used for years. Love the Martin strings...🎼🎸🎵🎶👍

Love your videos Jeremy, but a lot of guys are getting this wrong. It has the piezo and the single coil, and that's it. The transducer supported the middle position on the American version.

I just caught that too. Thanks for pointing it out. It's an interesting tone, I probably would use bridge or neck position on the switch most.

I‘ve seen about all the reviews on this out there, and yours adds value for the community. :-) That said, I think one point you mentioned a couple times is slightly skewed: The A and B settings on each of the three positions do not really equate to „unvisited“ and „boosted“, as you said for the Tele sounds (and later for another setting). Instead, they amount to two separate modeling sounds. In the case of the Tele sounds, one is cleaner and the other dirtier (and louder, as you point it). Actually, both Tele sounds and both acoustic sounds are models - not just plain-Jane pickup sounds. The 2nd position of the switch is more like straight piezo (good for folks who want to shape that sound via their pedalboards, much as they would for any other acoustic guitar) and a dirty, distorted piezo sound (not sure how they made that one). Beyond this, I‘ll add that I owned (and liked) the American Tele version of this. Bought it back when it first came out. Sold it a few days ago…in order to buy the Mexican model! Why? Mainly because I actually prefer the sounds chosen for the Mexican version, especially on the acoustic side of things. On the American version, I found the acoustic sounds a bit too „hi-fi“ and in some cases brittle. The Mexican dreadnaught sound is warmer and woodier. And being able to dial in a bit of the smaller-body sound to add crispiness is a great option. Also like the piezo and dirty piezo sounds. Never had much of a need for the extra body-sensor sound on the American model. While it added „wood“ and allowed me to thump on the body, it also sounded a bit boomy and unnatural to my ears. So the simplicity of the Mexican version wins for me. Oh, and its electric sounds - though a bit on the dull/muted side as you point out - will probably work better for me than the ones on the American version, esp. running through my pedal board. I‘ll be using the Player guitar into my JBL PRX One as one of about 3 guitars for my otherwise acoustic gigs. That will enable me to do some gritty material, too, and to widen my acoustic palette with some extra flavors. The guitar is also very easy to play, making it a great choice for certain songs played further up the neck. By selling the American one and buying the Mexican one, I made a little money, too, which is nice. One downside of the Mexican version: It seems the wood used on the neck is less dense than on the American version, and this seems to be causing more fingering and sliding noises to be transmitted. Will first swap strings, though, to see if that can be improved a bit.

I am glad they made a player series of the acoustasonic. I wonder if and when they will come out with the strat and jazz master in the player series.
Also the only bummer to the player series is no body sensor for percussive playing.

Nice review (and playing). I'm liking these the more I hear about them. I just have to figure out a way to afford one. After watching a number of TH-cam reviews, I've come to the conclusion that the best amp set up would be using two amps, maybe something like a Deluxe or a Princeton for the electric pickup and then a dedicated acoustic amp for the acoustic sounds. I'd first plug the guitar into a pan pedal like the Electro-Harmonix EHX Next Step Pan Pedal which would give me two outputs to work with (one for each amp) and have specific (and separated) effects for your electric sounds and your acoustic sounds. Then you can pan between the two amps or blend them. Not having a tone control (on the guitar) for the electric pickup is kind of a bummer, but I think it's something you can work with once you get the right pedalboard setup (maybe use a wah or some kind of tone pedal as your tone control).

Fwiw: I'll make on odd comment about why I'd want one of these.
I play ambient music with a rig that includes an old school Roland MIDI guitar synth. I have an extra MIDI pickup laying around that - for the sake of variety - I'd love to put on an acoustic guitar, but that would require stringing it up with electric guitar strings, and this guitar seems built for the job.🤔

It sounds like like it is it's OWN guitar and not something else as are some of the other acoustasonics which at times can sound like a flawed version of a great acoustic or a flawed version of an electric. surprisingly ... This sort of has it's OWN sound. It is a good sound too! Also the white is kina kool and keeps it from looking cheap which some of the others can. It is sort of it's own thing.

The acoustic setting might sound more like a mix’s acoustic guitar if you were to play it through an acoustic guitar amp or DI through a PA. NIce review. It will be interesting to see if Fender does an Acoustasonic Player Jazzmaster next. I LOVE my USA Acoustasonic Jazzmaster. IMHO it is the best of the Acoustasonic series. It is much fuller sounding, and the acoustic sounds are more authentic - especially when played through a Fishman Loudbox.

If I ever get to own one of these, I will swap out the piezo undersaddle pickup (which I cannot stand) in favour of a K & K cntact pickup, which gives a far nicer sound. Otherwise, these are great guitars. It's also worth a look at the Fender Highway series guitars, which are very similar to the Acoustasonics, and in the same price range of this MIM Acoustasonic Tele.
BTW for me, neck dive is not a problem because I tie one end of the strap to the neck (just behind the nut) with a bootlace. Quite why everyone doesn't do this, I have no idea. Maybe it doesn't suit their image or something. But if doing what I do was good enough for Joni Mitchell, then it's good enough for me.

Can you please tell what should be a proper distance between strings and fretboard on Acoustasonic player with acoustic strings? Mine are almost at 1/4 inches at the 12th fret and it feels to high.

      @@Narrowboat.and.offgrid.living
Obviously, this isn’t a guitar that is meant for you. It is a niche product designed for a specific segment of the guitar buying population. It isn’t meant to be a person’s only guitar. Clearly, regardless of whether we are talking about the American made version or this more affordable Mexican made version we all know that it is absolutely without a doubt possible to buy BOTH a great sounding acoustic guitar AND a great sounding electric guitar for what these cost. The target market for these guitars (and similar guitars made by a other companies) are people who only want to take one guitar with them to a gig or who want something different to add their assortment at home.
You are absolutely correct that nobody asked Fender for the American Acoustasonic Telecaster. However, since the introduction of that guitar there certainly have been people asking for a more affordable Mexican made version just like there are people asking for an even more affordable Squier version. It is also evident that there is a demand for this type of guitar since the Taylor T5 has been in production for 16 years, Gibson’s Chet Atkins SST was available for roughly 20 years, and there are similar options from companies like Godin and Line 6.
Regardless of our personal opinions of these Fender Acoustasonics, they are not failed products. Fender is selling them as fast as they can make them. For what it’s worth, I don’t think the American Acoustasonics are for me, but I only say that because I already have a similar guitar a Gibson Ranger (which was produced for a few months as a replacement for the SST), and if I were going to spend what the American Acoustasonic cost I would buy a T5 because I think they look and sound better than any of the alternatives. That being said, the price of these might encourage me to consider one.
Regarding advertising how would you prefer Fender advertise their new and existing products?
      1. Broadcast television is a dying medium. In the 30+ years I’ve been playing guitar I don’t think I have ever seen a tv commercial from a guitar manufacturer, and I’ve rarely seen commercials for large music stores.
      2. Print media (newspapers and magazines) is yet another medium that is dying a slow death. However, Fender definitely still advertises in guitar related magazines as they always have.
      3. TH-cam is the ultimate advertising platform. The entirety of the platform is ONE BIG ADVERTISEMENT directly targeted at someone likely to consider buying whatever is being advertised. Every TH-camr out there is trying to sell you something.
