There's one really important thing that you forgot to mention in your analysis: Cost. The Idris costs about twice as the Polaris and requires nearly double the crew as well. The the resources and manpower investment you'd need for the Idris you could have two Polaris deployed at the same time. Which means that a discussion of Polaris vs Idris shouldn't reasonably be seen as a 1v1 fight. You'd have two Polaris coming at the Idris from multiple angles and overwhelming it with so many torpedo volleys that it couldn't reasonably shoot them all down. That while hammering it with multiple S6 ballistics turrets. In a 2v1 matchup the Idris would get completely dunked on. The Polaris was created to replace the aging Idris fleet in lore. Not because it was stronger or outclassed it on its own. But because the Polaris was smaller, cheaper to build, and they could deploy more of them into combat faster than the big clunky Idris.
@@marcuswynn89 That makes no sense lol. The Idris holds 3 heavy fighters normally. Each Polaris holds 1 heavy fighter for a total of 2. Almost as many combined as the Idris. So how would the Polaris group be immediately screwed by the Idris having a fighter wing - when they'd have their own fighters as well? It's well equipped for anti-fighter defense now.
@@marcuswynn892 Polaris would still destroy the idris, even if the idris have a fighter complement. The Polaris is fully capable of repelling fighters from my understanding, having quads, missiles ( sise 3, i think ), and other assortments of weapons. Also, the weapons of the polaris have a good coverage of all areas. Moreover, the polaris has the capability to house 1 heavy fighter. So, in conjunction with one another ( polaris and the fighter ), I believe 3-2 fighters [ Idris hanger recommendation i think ] would be repelled. Furthermore, the polaris reflects modern doctrine. Basically, detecting the enemy first before itself is detected , then attempting to destroy the other vessel. Though yes, the sise 10's could be shot down quite easily, it's meant to be accompaned by the sise 3 to create 'disortion' 'confuse enemy vessel weapons systems', so the sise 10's may be able to hit the idris. Aswell, due to 2 polaris present, the idris would at all times be venerable [ ei. One polaris attacks front, the other attacks behind'. It would be quite difficult for the idris to focus on one. Additionally, if the polaris is at a disadvantage position, it could easily retreat and engage later. Though I guess what I'm trying to say is, there's a reason missile destroyers, [ polaris inspiration ] consist the majority of a navy. Longer range, cheaper [ operating ] more versatile.
Missiles and torpedoes do not have to be locked on, either. They just fly as unguided, and that is very effective, as they cannot be misguided by countermeasures. You just have to aim well. But the target is huge, so... ;)
Seriously CIG needs to make bedlogging stay necessary for gameplay reasons. If they are so worried about people who want to log out of the game at a whim then they should make an option to choose a bed as a login location like a medbed when died so if you log out at a certain distance from the bed you will wake up in that bed.
So, Ths Polaris' S10 torpedoes currently have a 2.8KM minimum lock distance, 30KM maximum, with a speed of 270m/s. They do 750K damage per torpedo, & all missiles & torpedoes uave a health of 0 currently, most likely whioe we wait for a more complete picture of how Missiles/Torpedoes will work closer to 1.0. The Polaris also has a speed of 145m/s vs the 45m/s of the Idris, so its much faster overall. The Torpedo operator does have an external camera, its right under the nose of the ship, so they can lock & fire off axis
@@marcuswynn89 right, it's super dumb. Imaging having a player with the sole job of operating the torpedoes, it sounds limiting and frankly boring. Why allowing the pilot of the idris to shot, but not smaller ships? Doesn't makes sense.
size 10 missiles is in the dps calculator 1/2 the speed of the size 9 and 2 times the hit points and the size 6 guns. 1 size 4 shield. no redundancy for that type of ship. it need 2 size 4 shield like the 890j. the polaris can store over 100nsize 10 missiles in the cargobay. but you will need a tractor beem gun
Another thing to consider: what is the PDS's abilities when it comes to priority targeting? Will it auto target the biggest incoming missiles or just keep firing on a first come, first served basis? Second: How long does it take to acquire and begin firing on new targets? Third - how many targets can the PDS track individually and assign a gun for? Will it try to target one per gun, or will multiple try shooting on the same target? I bring this up as the Polaris can likely launch 4 torps at a time, and in addition, if someone else has missile operator mode, the Polaris has s3 missiles it could launch to screen for the s10s, distracting the Idris PDS to try to squeeze in a couple hits.
Not likely, it CAN shoot 4 at a time. CiG already confirmed this. A barrage of smaller missiles as a smokescreen followed up by 4 size 10 torps and the idris is doomed. Especially considering the Polaris’ speed and maneuverability (also confirmed by CiG to be great for a capital ship) I don’t see how the Idris has a chance. It will rarely get rhat railgun lined up
Tbh, with Squadron 42 seeing all the ships the Navy has, the Idris is pretty outdone by the rest of the fleet. Let me explain, We know the Navy has 3 variants of the Bengal class, a light carrier (half the size and probably half the cost,) a full sized carrier, which is probably the medium option for the class, and a pure battlecruiser class. I'm going to focus in on the light carrier from a strategic stand point. We know the light carrier exists, we know the Idris carries three fighters and an argo, we don't know how many the light carrier has but we know it definitely carries more than three. With that at a much cheaper cost to the Bengal it makes it a sustainable solution for backwater patrolling, which is what the Idris does, and also what the Polaris is set to do. The only thing the Idris has going for it now is its railgun which can be fulfilled by the Torpdeos carried by the Polaris, Perseus and Javelin, and are arguably more effective. The railgun is a cheaper option, but it's role can be done by the main gun on the Perseus. I can definitely see the Idris living on in service to various citizen militias and smaller merc orgs, but I believe its time in the Navy is over since its roles are filled by much newer ships that do its job much better. (I can see it living on in the Navy as a troop transport, but that's about it.)
I agree, that's the reason for the bridge crew is to have that gunner role for multicrew. I could be wrong but no way the idris pilot also get the railgun
It’s my understanding that the Polaris is supposed to be very maneuverable relative to other capital ships. In a one on one, it seems like it will come down to who can maneuver better.
I have an Idris-K, which will have a S10 laser and a bunch if automated defences for these exact type of things… plus I will have an eclipse and talon that can go ahead and scout stealthily. 3x S9 torps firing at a Polaris while the Talon distracts and keeps shields down/fight any counter fighters, then the Idris fires from a distance and easily wins! I can even fit a mantis inside to force the opponent to lose, not run!
@@marcuswynn89 that ship is a lot more formidable than u think those turrets are now size six and size 5 all over plus 32 size 3 missiles with the insane 28 size 10 torps and then the hangar that can fit two medium fighters a lot more dangerous than you think
npc's in the pu now are very good at shooting down torpedoes even at close range. the best way you can get around that is having their turret gunners be preoccupied with other ships and even your ship, but if you're not moving laterally and too close then they can destroy the missile right when its launched.
The pilot will 9000% be able to shoot the torpedoes. CIG arent stupid. The torpedo room weapons panel is IN THE TORPEDO ROOM.... The guy manning it has zero view of the bridge or outside. Anyone who thinks CIG expects the pilot to verbally say "fire,, NOW,, no... wait. NO... NOW!" every time is delusional. The torpedo crew slot is for a person to either adjust the trigger timing, or primarily to reload the racks from spares in the cargo bay. The Retaliator also has a "torpedo crewman" weapons control panel in the belly of the ship. Yet obviously we can, and still will be able to, and saw the Retaliator pilot in SQ42, fire the torps. The whole idea that the Polaris pilot cant fire the torps came entirely from the community due to misunderstanding the fact there is a weapons console. NOBODY at CIG said that, ever. Dont listen to vocal panicking spectrum posts. Listen to CIG.
The Idris will and should always win in a 1vs1. The Perseus is a step stone to the Polaris, the Polaris is a step stone to the Idris, the Idris is a step stone to the Javelin and the Javelin is a step stone to the Bengal. And than we have the Nautilus and the Hammerhead sitting there somewhere between.
Today i tried Polaris in arena commander. These huge cannons on bottom go through shields, pretty fast. She take out components of another polaris really fast. Polaris is able to disarm defense guns of IDRIS with each shot 1 gun. Sure combined forces of ships like ares or other ships with s4 guns can disarm Idris. (Did multiple times in arena commander with andromeda or cutlass with cannons.) Problem is chaff and flares. Torpedoes are slow, easily shot down. But is possible to take down defenses, and overhelm idris by missiles or let idris use flares and chafs on smaller missiles just to be taken out later by s10 torps. Blind fire is not working well, torpedoes spin like crazy. Not like s9 that can be fired blind. (Flyby fire not lock on) Combibed forces of few heavy fighters can disarm 2 bottom idris turrets really fasty including CIWS. If game let us use blind fire of polaris, she could take down idris with dumb fire of missiles.
Honestly it’s comes down to the crew on both sides and then what each fighters can do to help support the battles. With the Polaris fighter I would say play more of a defense play around the mother ship. With the idris fighters need to do more offensive plays. Overwhelm the defensives of the Polaris shoot down in coming trops. It’ll be a battle of skills and tactics on who will win the day.
@@marcuswynn89 what does the Idris have for forward facing guns tho? Can many turrets get a good straight ahead shot? If not the Idris will have to choose between going nose on for a shot and turning away slightly to defend against the torps.
I am late to comment this but it is such an easy fix, the Polaris was designed to kill capitol ships and lightly armored, ie not meant to engage against the ships it was designed to kill. So just like real life have them sync raiders with a hornet tracker as an example to increase the firing range using the radar signature of another ship to lock targets.
To make the torpedos more effective, they themselves should be able to do evasive maneuvers to try and get past PDC fire. That way if you fire 4-8 torpedos, at least one should hit if the crew of the other ship is not on their A game
I really hope the railgun on the Idris wont be controlled by the pilot, i think it would be fantastic if they would split the different roles on the ship between the different seats and players since it would give advantage to teamplay. I really don't want the polaris torps to be controlled by the pilot as you are saying in this video because then you could just solo it which ruins the purpose of the ship.
No I wasn’t saying I want the Polaris pilot to shoot the torps, I’m saying in terms of the main weapon the idris has an advantage with pilot being able to shoot its railgun
@@marcuswynn89, you still suggested that the Polaris pilot should fire the missiles, i think thats stupid, instead remove pilot guns from the capital ships and let other crewmates handle it
@@Navigator013-et9ov Yea sure... a player with the sole role of pressing the "launch torpedo" button sounds incredibly dumb and boring. The pilot is the one active in the fight, only navigating is also not engaging enough, in these huge slow ships. Additional players maintaining the ship, operating turrents, commanting the fleet, using the fighters... How many players you imaging to have on hand just to give them such miniscule roles... it won't be fun. You have 2-5 players running around fixing damages, extinguish fires, engineering the ship. 1 commander, 1-3 fighters(which is a role people rather play), you have about 6 manned turrents in addition? Too many players which won't be possible to have on the go most of the time. It doesn't harm anyone to allow the option to divide roles and set who has access to what. So that the commander can choose if the pilot can shoot or if another person on the console below does.
@cnnhean no, i think more of it like the way they showed it in the s42 gameplay demo where one guy is in control of weapons. It wont be that your role solely is to press the fire button, a lot of power management too, aswell as locking on to target and getting the clearance to fire. Im gonna be honest and tell you that i dont really know how they would make it interesting, but i really hope that the fleet battles will be like in the s42 demo which might be unrealistic but it is my opinion. I think it would be fine if the pilot pressed the trigger but someone else charged the weapon up. Or locked the torps in the case of the polaris. You are talking about that you wont be able to have that many players active at the same time but i am sure many orgs will, there are 70000 orgs in star citizen, some if them are more than a 1000 players, i think they can manage, smaller orgs can use subcapital ships such as the perseus. The polaris isnt meant to have on the go, its a capital ship.
@@Navigator013-et9ov I agree with most of what you said, that being said, "The polaris isnt meant to have on the go" is kind of far from the current situation, there are already know many many players and solo players who pledge for capital ships, this is the most pinnacle of the game for many. Many aren't as social as others. And that's why cig promised blades and npc crew in the far future, even if it will not equat to real players. As a rule of thumb law in games, if it's fun for a solo player, it could be extremely fun for every one. It means much more populated verse. And i don't mind if someone else does the locking and power management of the weapons that much, so long the pilot can also be engage and not just being bored of flying a very slow brick, drooling while looking at the battle field, wanting to engage too. I can see a player getting very invested in being engineer full time, and part of that game loop is managing torpedoes. I can see players who will enjoy turrents. I can see player who will enjoy commanding the ship and fleet. These all are easy for me to see, it's only if we split the pilot from the main guns that doesn't make much sense to me, there's much more cons than pros in my opinion. So now, i can bet you if this is the case, most polaris vessels you'd come accros would be just flying bricks with zero operational weapons(or 1 at top..). 10-15%~ would average 6 players. 2%~ may get to 14. But with all ships, capital included, i expect there to be 1-2 players 85%~ of the time.
you could also saturate de PDS with small missiles and mix torpedos with the missiles. Torpedo could aslo have shields to increase survivability. torpedo could also shut down their engine to minimize detection before impact.
No they dropped the missile speed because they were 4x faster than scm speeds and people were getting lit up when they would switch from scm to nav mode
in short.. the capital ships are for longer distances.. The ships to have fast fun with and relative no costs are the hammerhead, perseus and similar sized ships. You will see it eventually. Capital ships are really the org ships.
You got this fight wrong. The Polaris isn't a Brawler, it's a sniper in the body of a Polaris. The Polaris has capital sized radar while the Idris only had a Large Size radar. The Polaris has a much longer range so the Idris won't know it's being fired on until The Polaris has fired 4 Torpedoes and moved staying out of the range of Idris' radar. Since the Polaris fires 4 Size 10 Torpedoes at a time all 4 have to be shot down. If the Idris is stationary or moving in a straight line and The Polaris gets behind it they will dummy fire the Size 10 Torpedoes giving no indication to the Idris crew they are being attacked. Torpedoes come in 3 types and one of those ignores flares. Further this tactic is demonstrated in CiGs own video with the Polaris vs Idris fight. This fight will be over before the Crew of the Idris can get to battle stations.
I do not think the intended operation method of the Polaris will be "head to head" battles with other capital ships. The Polaris got a capital radar which should give it a long range. For its torpedoes II see it as either an ambush ship with a hit & run tactic or a support ship that will finish off a capital ship.
@@marcuswynn89 I think you have to take down the PDS first then fire the torps. idris have 5 duel size 2 pds now. also. idris can have 4xsize 4 automatic turret (probably just larger pds). plus flares for days. even then, the idris can take a beating. it have 2 capital shields, crap ton of large medium shields. lots of size 5 guns, plus the size 7 turret and size 5 torp launcher. if those torps cant hit. polaris doesnt stand a chance to idris, Polaris fire power without the torps is about the same level or even lower compare to A2.
I fought a player captured idris in this patch and that thing could turn on a DIME. I was getting sniped by its railgun in fighters. The idris turn speeds have not seemed to be affected my MM haha
The fighter wing on the Idris will destroy a lone Polaris easily. It would not even get in range to fire Torpedoes. You need two Polaris to fight an Idriss.
the pilot has control of targeting and firing the torps on the polaris, CIG have stated this themselves that it will be exactly like the retaliator with exception of the loading of the torps. every one going to fantasy land about some other person launching the torps for past years, just get over it.
Well I have both myself, but seeing that they still say Idris is locked behind SQ42 which now is slated for 2026 kinda suck are they just gonna have Polaris as the most dominant ship for 2+ years or will they release Idris earlier?
I'm thinking the Polaris will win if it can keep its distance. The radar of the Idris is only size L and the Polaris is Capital size so the Idris shouldn't see the Polaris firing its torps
I would never fight an Idris 1 to 1 in a Polaris, unless it's as an initial assault, distraction move or a finishing blow. Idris is too powerful and has too many turrets to justify the risk of taking it on alone imo. Will be intersting to see!
I think 1v1 with same level skilled players (or AI) the Idris would have an easier time dealing the the Polaris. But a lot boils down to skills. If the Polaris has a more competent crew, the polaris wins. A lot of stuff depends on the pds system too. You keep pumping out torps eventually the pds will get oversaturated with too many targets. But depends how the pds work. Biggest threat, closest biggest threat, or whatever is the closest. Not forgetting the turret gunners are able to fire on the missles. End of the day, the idris is made to brawl but the Polaris is made for hit and run tactics. Whoever is better at that wins. This isnt including the fighters (or fighter bombers) also. But that is my two cents.
A tidbit here, The Polaris will officially outrange the Idris with its torpedos. It is also much faster. It is meant to be an annoying fly that actually happens to be deadly.
@@marcuswynn89 Time the 28 size 2 and 3 missiles to saturate the Idris's defenses. Shoot the torps first then the missiles afterwards so the missiles pass by the torps 3/4 of the way to the target.
It all comes down to how hard it is to spoof torpedoes. I have not played in a couple of years. but last time I did. I could nuke an Idris with my Tali and finish it off if I had a bunch of other players in a variety of ships also attacking the Idris. that said, most of my experience is that Missiles have been pretty easy to spoof. and if they don't make Torpedoes better, Torp ships will be a big waste of money. but the alternative would make them the instant "I win" so it is going to take a delicate balance.
The Polaris has some seriously powerful weapons and could certainly ruin an Idris day but I think the Polaris will be much less robust than the Idris which will be able to take a beating.
Also wouldn't Polaris be stealthier? And would the torps have some great range? If so, then the Idris might never see the Polaris coming and just get torped.
Gou gotta go back and redo it. And talk about the Polaris Vs Idris-P because itll be the most realistic battle. Which Polaris will win because Idris-P does not come with the Railcannon
That’s what I was about to mention, leaned heavily into the limited spinal railgun that as far as we know currently will be encountered much less than the other variants. Only exception to that is when the Idris becomes flyable you’ll probably see them but after that the idris m will outnumbered and rare in comparison. So this isn’t just idris vs Polaris is idris in its most powerful form which isn’t exactly a good comparison.
@@Stafernisy the only comparison which would be a better possibility would be the Idris-K conversion Vs the Polaris. A S10 laser beam would be interesting to see versus a Polaris.
@@canop1601 You can see all three Idris on the Site. The M variant with the Rail cannon was very limited and rare to get. now you have to buy the $15k pack to get the M. The P is sold on Invictus and IAE. Which is the civilian version without the high power weapons the M has. The K Conversion Kit. Which only works if you bought the P variant. And it's quite now has a laser beam instead of a Rail cannon and different turrets.
The polaris SHOULD NOT consistently beat an Idris. Polaris is supposed to be a top ship for a militia while the Idris is a ship of the line in the UEE. Idris also costs about double a Polaris. An Idris should beat a Polaris in a 1v1, but the Polaris’s torpedoes should be enough of a threat to beat an Idris if supported with a fleet of other torpedo ships.
Why is it always one ship against another ship? If I where going to take out an Idris with a polaris i would probably distract the Idris with something else, or have fighters going in taking out the turrets. Of course that is if they add in so you can sub target components of ships. If it comes to a 1v1 thingy I would probably get out of there, the risk is to great with any of the ships, or well depends on what you actually lose when loosing a ship of that size.
@@marcuswynn89 Na nothing is serious until it happens of course. Now you can make a video, speculating how a planned battle between 2 orgs with those ships as main ship would turn out, and what tactics would be best for each ship.If you do I probably watch it at least.
@@kristoffernordlund8392those shiny capital ships are nothing other than fluffy Stat Citizen eye candy, there is no way any org realistically uses a capital ship over a swarm of light fighters because multicrew and multicrew ships suck, therefore since one day in the distant future this might all change I think there's not much point in doing a pvp tactics video for orgs using those ships
@@marcuswynn89 me neither, it's honestly sad since the whole game depends on this basic principle to be functionnal but yeah we re a very long way off of them fixing it, especially given how they showed with MM that they have utterly no idea what to do to fix this when in reality a simple value change would do plenty to help the game even if just as a temporary fix
I'm not so sure polaris vs idris is "fair" considering the sizes and what comes with that. I will agree the main weapons are huge game changers and will definitely influence a battle. At the end of the day, it will co.e down to how many people you can get to man turrets and such. So, my advice is get something smaller like a Perseus for the daily things and use the big ships for special outings. I'm by no means saying do not get either or anything else for that matter. It comes down to practicality and what can reasonably be done on a regular basis.
The Polaris is my organisation's flagship. We all cannot wait for it!! (My organisation is called the Crimson Cartel we have only just started out with 5 members looking for more!!)
I see 2 problems with the polaris: 1- if the torps sre bespoke which is very likely, you are kinda fuck, lets say they are IR, or CS, 1 flare and they are defeated lol, unless you can equip EMs they will be usless in PVP 2- the S6 turret, is a bespoke ballistics with only 1k damage, so if they are cannons, what are you gonna do with 80 shots ? Like the nerfed corsair has 6k damage 😂, and if they are gatlings... Well they are kinda usless now anyways
I understand this is a cocnept is to see the ships ability to fight each other but the idris major strength lies more with its abiliy to be a carrier, Yes the idirs has a rail gun and s7 turrest but a ship of this size and speed trying to brawl is silly esspecially when it can carry serveal fighters and or bombers like the eclipse. I think in a battle senario the idris would keep distance and deploy bombers/fighters while providing fire from afar and keeping movement random enough to avoid any dumb fired torps, also the idris would be deploying countermeasure to avoid the polaris torps. I think the polaris would have easier time if it was able to launch toprs before it was detected or if the idirs didnt have any fighters but without fighters the idris looses so much of its combat effectivness and your essentually not fighting the idirs at its strongest.
Just came here to say that I WAS RIGHT. The Polaris size 10s are easily destroyable by PDCs and they are slow. Even if they rework them with double the speed they are still EASILY destroyed by manned turrets.. I tried with my polaris and 3 friends against a IDRIS on Pirate Swarm and we were unable to hit a SINGLE torp on the idris.. THe missiles were ALL destroyed from 3.5km away.. we fired more than 40 torps because I kept restocking them when I killed another ship. So here is your answer.
The PDS systems were designed for shooting down torpedo's and missiles. So yes, the Idris's PDS will shoot them down unless it's changed. The Idris is superior to the Polaris in almost every way minus speed. I also want to point out the M variant has Medium Capital ship armor, where as the P and K will only have light, like the Polaris does. The Polaris is at a disadvantage against a Idris-M in a head to head fight. Even though CiG showed videos of a Polaris killing an Idris.
they should really rebalance or rethink the torpedos they are to easy too take down they are useless right now they should give them an actual hp like u will need to land some shots on it not just 1 bullet and phew torpedo gone.haha maybe they can even give every big torp size 9 and above a small size 0 shield ))))
Dumbed down versions of the a I and ship are not an accurate read of player skill and ships. All of the capital and subcapitals that have been introduced have all been using a weaker dumber version of themselves. You are not in any universe going to be taking out any of these ships with fighters... All you're going to do is be an annoying fly? That'll get too tapped by their size six duals or quads.😅
yeah i feel like the Idris is a better ship. you get the rail gun. polaris has a few shots then its useless. so you have to make every shot count then run away and im not much of a hit and run type of person
you can load up the cargo bay with hundreds of S10 Torpedos and just reload it, Idris gun has cooldown before its charged and ready to shoot. Polaris can almost instantly shoot a barrage of 4 if not more S10 torpedo's at same time.
@@marcuswynn89 - SC ships are made with the rock scissors paper model in mind. Each ship should have a counter. The counter for Idris is Polaris, End of discussion.
Idris is now a joke. Polaris will own it. It would be nice if the Polaris got a rail gun too so it could take out even bigger ships. The torpedoes should be buffed to "skipper" torpedoes like the one in Wing Commander IV. The torpedoes will go in and out of a stealth mode and cant be targetted.
There are Still PDS, Flares and Noise to use against Torps. Plus the 3 Fighters it can carry can also help defend against Torps by hunting them down. Now how much will 1 S10 Torp cost? who are willing to shoot 4 or more of them if they will be Flared off? (And the Idris has A LOT of Flares) I think the Polaris will be best used in a bigger fleet and never alone.

But the target is huge, so... ;)
Yeah I like the idea of dummy firing torps from close range
Even still I think dummy firing the torps at a close range will be the best option
@@marcuswynn89 The only option when the speed is as slow as it is. Should be alot faster but MM has made a mess of missiles
exactly that Polaris plus lets say 3 fighters idris is toast
@@marcuswynn89 right, it's super dumb. Imaging having a player with the sole job of operating the torpedoes, it sounds limiting and frankly boring.
Why allowing the pilot of the idris to shot, but not smaller ships? Doesn't makes sense.
@@cnnhean Roleplaying a full crew on the Polaris or any ship can be a lot of fun, more then you'd think.
size 10 missiles is in the dps calculator 1/2 the speed of the size 9 and 2 times the hit points and the size 6 guns. 1 size 4 shield. no redundancy for that type of ship. it need 2 size 4 shield like the 890j. the polaris can store over 100nsize 10 missiles in the cargobay. but you will need a tractor beem gun
It will be interesting to see how much it costs for 1 size 10 torp.
@@XquizitRush eh more intersting to see how easy it is to craft and upgrade. stealth torp. maybe some extra explosive. who knows.
Also to consider the fighters/utility ships on board both of these amazing warships
I didn’t theory craft that because there is an infinite combination of scenarios that could happen
My Polaris pocket Vulture or Medical Terrapin isn't going to help me much in a fight lol
You just saturate the Idris with smaller missiles and then send size 10s in that array
Turret gunners can also shoot down missiles
Not likely, it CAN shoot 4 at a time. CiG already confirmed this. A barrage of smaller missiles as a smokescreen followed up by 4 size 10 torps and the idris is doomed. Especially considering the Polaris’ speed and maneuverability (also confirmed by CiG to be great for a capital ship) I don’t see how the Idris has a chance. It will rarely get rhat railgun lined up
@@Terran0va_Plays I would like to know how many size 10 torps it takes to crack an Idris.
Is wrong
The Idris Gunner will not be the pilot, no way
the pilot shoots the railgun, yes way.

Lol😂
Polaris: all the energie on shields, a close fly-by on the Idris and fire!! No chance to intercept all torps.
That’s probably the best option

The guy manning it has a remote turrent camera right underneath the nose
yeah no its pretty much confirmed at this point that the torpedo crewman is the one that fires the torps not the pilot
How how wrong you were 😂
The Idris will and should always win in a 1vs1. The Perseus is a step stone to the Polaris, the Polaris is a step stone to the Idris, the Idris is a step stone to the Javelin and the Javelin is a step stone to the Bengal. And than we have the Nautilus and the Hammerhead sitting there somewhere between.
Nicely done.

Top or bottom view is called "pancake"
(Flyby fire not lock on)
Combibed forces of few heavy fighters can disarm 2 bottom idris turrets really fasty including CIWS.
Polaris all day it’s faster more maneuverable I will run circles around the idris torping the hell out of that idris ass 😂
Don’t be surprised if it doesn’t move all that well
True but the idris will be way more slower the Polaris radar range and able to torp from a distance that rail gun will be useless

It should be flyables in the PTU in the next week or 2. Welcome to take mine out and captain it anytime!
I appreciate that
To make the torpedos more effective, they themselves should be able to do evasive maneuvers to try and get past PDC fire.
1 commander, 1-3 fighters(which is a role people rather play),
you have about 6 manned turrents in addition?
@@Navigator013-et9ov I agree with most of what you said, that being said,
"The polaris isnt meant to have on the go"
is kind of far from the current situation, there are already know many many players and solo players who pledge for capital ships, this is the most pinnacle of the game for many.
Shields still wouldn’t be enough to stop it from getting shot down
In general, they dropped the speed of the missiles too much, and all missile sizes must be increase in speed.
Considering i payed 330 for my Polaris, it will always out perform the Idris.
Same
I cant wait for my Polaris, multicore vulkan and 4.0 to hit live in PU!
Easy solution is let multiple seats be able to shoot the torps.
😁i bought the polaris ....hope it comes soon 😁
Tobi eye tracking while locking torps
The problem is though the torps are too slow they’ll get shot down at long ranges
Polaris, It looks awesome ,it's out my price range though, one day I will own one fingers crossed 👍🏻
You can get them for around 500 during CCU chains and on Star Hanger, and with LTI
I do not think the intended operation method of the Polaris will be "head to head" battles with other capital ships. The Polaris got a capital radar which should give it a long range. For its torpedoes II see it as either an ambush ship with a hit & run tactic or a support ship that will finish off a capital ship.
If I were to theory craft and entire fleet battle scenario that would take over an hour with multiple different outcomes lol
@@marcuswynn89 I think you have to take down the PDS first then fire the torps. idris have 5 duel size 2 pds now. also. idris can have 4xsize 4 automatic turret (probably just larger pds). plus flares for days.

if those torps cant hit. polaris doesnt stand a chance to idris, Polaris fire power without the torps is about the same level or even lower compare to A2.
The cross-section detection is very small for the Polaris, the polaris will see the idris before the idris sees the Polaris
I think the Idris wins for sure, and it should. But 2 Polaris', will win every time. That's why I got 3 using the old Explorer pack trick. Woot!!
I fought a player captured idris in this patch and that thing could turn on a DIME. I was getting sniped by its railgun in fighters. The idris turn speeds have not seemed to be affected my MM haha
It felt sluggish to me, but then again it was so easy to hit fighters because they are moving so slow now
The fighter wing on the Idris will destroy a lone Polaris easily.
Unless the ship is in the game treat it as speculation
so.....Idris will be fast as fuck until that post sale nerf. still better than Polaris considering the torpedo situation.
I thought that it was the pilot that shot the torps, but they needed to be loaded in by a crew member no?
I would never fight an Idris 1 to 1 in a Polaris, unless it's as an initial assault, distraction move or a finishing blow.
Idris is too powerful and has too many turrets to justify the risk of taking it on alone imo. Will be intersting to see!
I would love an idris but GL getting one the brief second they are available
the idris line needs upgunned for balancing.. turrets should all be quads, they're already only size 4s
2 Polaris perpendicular approach, whichever being targeted goes evasive, Idris is broadside to the other
I think 1v1 with same level skilled players (or AI) the Idris would have an easier time dealing the the Polaris.
A tidbit here,
The Polaris will officially outrange the Idris with its torpedos. It is also much faster. It is meant to be an annoying fly that actually happens to be deadly.
Torps are gonna be slow and get shot down
@@marcuswynn89 Time the 28 size 2 and 3 missiles to saturate the Idris's defenses.
The Polaris has some seriously powerful weapons and could certainly ruin an Idris day but I think the Polaris will be much less robust than the Idris which will be able to take a beating.
ohhhh polaris and idris and kracken vs fully crewed and competent javelin :)
It's a Polaris video, so I have to watch it...
cool take and content
Also wouldn't Polaris be stealthier? And would the torps have some great range? If so, then the Idris might never see the Polaris coming and just get torped.
The tactics of the idris they gave was not to sidesrafe, but make a fast attack run, fire, runaway and rearm, rinse and repeat. It is not a brawler..
@tetragerbera I don't use the site he uses but maybe that's the only Idris on the site? I mean we know what he means when he says Idris vs Polaris
It’s ship vs ship because it’s fun to speculate none of this is serious nor should it be taken that way
@@marcuswynn89 Na nothing is serious until it happens of course. Now you can make a video, speculating how a planned battle between 2 orgs with those ships as main ship would turn out, and what tactics would be best for each ship.If you do I probably watch it at least.

@Stormyy6310 multi crew ships do suck, I don’t have confidence that cig will fix it
@@marcuswynn89 me neither, it's honestly sad since the whole game depends on this basic principle to be functionnal but yeah we re a very long way off of them fixing it, especially given how they showed with MM that they have utterly no idea what to do to fix this when in reality a simple value change would do plenty to help the game even if just as a temporary fix
The pilot should ahve torpedo control
I'm not so sure polaris vs idris is "fair" considering the sizes and what comes with that. I will agree the main weapons are huge game changers and will definitely influence a battle. At the end of the day, it will co.e down to how many people you can get to man turrets and such. So, my advice is get something smaller like a Perseus for the daily things and use the big ships for special outings. I'm by no means saying do not get either or anything else for that matter. It comes down to practicality and what can reasonably be done on a regular basis.
Maybe I forgot to say it but I meant this comparison to be with both ships fully crewed
The Polaris is my organisation's flagship. We all cannot wait for it!! (My organisation is called the Crimson Cartel we have only just started out with 5 members looking for more!!)
That’s amazing, happy for your org
I see 2 problems with the polaris:
1- if the torps sre bespoke which is very likely, you are kinda fuck, lets say they are IR, or CS, 1 flare and they are defeated lol, unless you can equip EMs they will be usless in PVP
2- the S6 turret, is a bespoke ballistics with only 1k damage, so if they are cannons, what are you gonna do with 80 shots ? Like the nerfed corsair has 6k damage 😂, and if they are gatlings... Well they are kinda usless now anyways
That’s real bro
Idris wins every scenario unless it has back up to cover its torpedos slow travel time period
I said the same thing about the PDT’s shooting down torps
Love the Polaris. But really bummed the Pilot has NO control over any of the weapons. Kind of a bummer.
It does seem silly
Let’s be honest. In 2954 one person could control everything on the ship with the aid of Ai.
I would think he'd have control of the smaller missiles, like the hammerhead
@@RicoZaid_ i think you’re correct
The PDS systems were designed for shooting down torpedo's and missiles. So yes, the Idris's PDS will shoot them down unless it's changed. The Idris is superior to the Polaris in almost every way minus speed.
I also want to point out the M variant has Medium Capital ship armor, where as the P and K will only have light, like the Polaris does. The Polaris is at a disadvantage against a Idris-M in a head to head fight. Even though CiG showed videos of a Polaris killing an Idris.
If you want polaris just ask i have polaris and i need crew
I don’t mind coming crew it
man listen if that polaris locks on and gets 4/5 torps going at back to back your not going to be able to shoot all of them down
The idris has a bunch of pds’ and turrets, and the torps will be slow so you can literally out run them in nav mode
But when the torpedos hit the idris is fucked hahah😂
Maybe they’ll hit a NPC idris
Idris should win it’s more expensive
they should really rebalance or rethink the torpedos they are to easy too take down they are useless right now they should give them an actual hp like u will need to land some shots on it not just 1 bullet and phew torpedo gone.haha maybe they can even give every big torp size 9 and above a small size 0 shield ))))
100% Polaris because I have seen Polaris making Idris boom
That was an advertisement
@@marcuswynn89 yeah and wehn Polaris cant make this its a false one and iligal in many country
Huh 😂
Dumbed down versions of the a I and ship are not an accurate read of player skill and ships. All of the capital and subcapitals that have been introduced have all been using a weaker dumber version of themselves.
You are not in any universe going to be taking out any of these ships with fighters... All you're going to do is be an annoying fly? That'll get too tapped by their size six duals or quads.😅
@@LuluGamingDK the Polaris is meant to dump its Torpedos into an Idris destroys IT and JUMP away as fast as IT can
Ngl the idris has no chance
yeah i feel like the Idris is a better ship. you get the rail gun. polaris has a few shots then its useless. so you have to make every shot count then run away and im not much of a hit and run type of person
My heart is with the Polaris but with how slow torpedos are it could be difficult
you can load up the cargo bay with hundreds of S10 Torpedos and just reload it, Idris gun has cooldown before its charged and ready to shoot. Polaris can almost instantly shoot a barrage of 4 if not more S10 torpedo's at same time.
@andreichiuzbaian147 the thing we have to see is how much damage a full charged railgun shot will do to a Polaris
@@marcuswynn89 - SC ships are made with the rock scissors paper model in mind. Each ship should have a counter. The counter for Idris is Polaris, End of discussion.
@andreichiuzbaian147 that’s not true light fighters dominate all
Idris all the way ! Stop comparing a $1800 ship with a $750 one dude. This is pathetic
I can do what I want, you don’t like it don’t watch
Idris is now a joke. Polaris will own it. It would be nice if the Polaris got a rail gun too so it could take out even bigger ships. The torpedoes should be buffed to "skipper" torpedoes like the one in Wing Commander IV. The torpedoes will go in and out of a stealth mode and cant be targetted.
Depends on how it can take those railgun shots
There are Still PDS, Flares and Noise to use against Torps. Plus the 3 Fighters it can carry can also help defend against Torps by hunting them down. Now how much will 1 S10 Torp cost? who are willing to shoot 4 or more of them if they will be Flared off? (And the Idris has A LOT of Flares) I think the Polaris will be best used in a bigger fleet and never alone.
"The Polaris should get a rail gun too so it can take out even larger ships"........
Lmao man WHAT??? Do you realize that s10 torpedoes pack enough punch to take out the largest of ships??? What do you think they're for? Light fighters?? 😂😂
It has everything it needs. It doesn't need a rail gun by any means. The Polaris is now capable of handling itself across the board.
Idris obviously, only people that cant afford an Idris or get one are buying Polaris
I can’t afford a Polaris 🥺
I will test that assumption daily 😅
@@marcuswynn89 oh no, poor thing, here, let me buy one for you.
@gabzsy4924 don’t get my hopes up
@Stellar-Nucleosynthesis oooooh I want my Perseus baby! Gonna be interesting to see what they do to it. If the Polaris gets Upgunned then is a chance the Perseus can be to.
I just think the idris is super ugly
Having the bridge on the nose seems like a big ol fail on a big ship like that but what do I know... maybe cars and trucks *should* put the drivers and passengers on the front bumper too... but perhaps not...
--I mean, it makes the bridge crew safer while running away probably I suppose..?
Cars and spaceships aren’t the same thing
@marcuswynn89 🙀
After polaris the perseus will come. Please make a video about perseus. 🫡
I gotta Perseus video in queue 🫡
