Class 50's seen on a couple of service trains but mostly on railtours in the early 1990's. The opening shot at Paignton was filmed on standard VHS so is of poorer quality to the rest of the video.
I always think hearing trains at night is something special. I remember staying in a B & B inTorre during GW150 and the sound of 50's working up Torre Bank was just incredible.
My Aunty lives about 50 feet from the mainline between Cardiff and Newport. You get everything going along there including huge long freight trains and it is so so so so noisy all day and all night. My sister and I always slept in the back room as kids and it was brutal in the summer with the windows open! 25 years later and my son and I sleep in the backroom now and it hasn't changed! The bigger freight trains make the house shake. The electrification work was really noisy as well and there were all sort of powerful spotlights shining as the work was done at night. It is pretty loud living next to a mainline that's for sure!!!!
Great bit of video.... although I don't think that was 1994 with Repulse (it was withdrawn in Aug 1992). Love the sound of the class 50's! The best time for me was 1pm on a saturday at Exeter St Davids.... because two class 50's would depart at exactly the same time. One was off Platform 1 with the standard Exeter to Waterloo serrvice, and the other was off platform 3 heading south, either to Plymouth or Paignton. The noise of 2 class 50's was incredible to see and hear, especially with the Waterloo serives thrashing up the hill to Exeter Central!!
Thanks, yes you're right about 50030, I took the date from that time stamped on the video so that must have been set wrong. My lasting memory of the Fifties was being in a guest house in Torre when I went to Devon for GW150 and hearing the 50's charging up the bank, an incredible sound
There seemed to be a damn sight less people about back then compared to now where you can't get any peace from inquisitive individuals wondering what you are doing or asking if the Flying Scotsman is due through.....
Excellent video. Anything with 47s 55s or 50s works for me as an ex-railwayman,

A nice collection of the Class 50 heydays. They really do roar in them clips. I long to see a 50 run on the mainline again.
Thanks Ryan, just wish I had more footage of them, and yes, it would be nice to see and hear one out again.
