It annoys me so much that some pokemon reward you so much for simply sending them out (ex: Zacian, Calyx-s), but Regigigas still has Slow Start for "balance"
Yes this. However it is usable. You can circumvent his slow start by using Galarian weezing with his ability to negate all abilities. For as long as he is on field, slow start will not proc. Thus giving you full benefit. It is a problem however in the way that every enemy in higher ranks will probably know what you are planning because this is used often. Galarian weezing also counters those Zacian free stat buffs. You just need to protect him in a way from the steel attacks as it will probably 1 shot weezing or 2 shot.
They should honestly give regigigas an ability that increases it attack stat by 2 every time it comes in battle but doesn't allow it to switch if there is a normal type in the battle. Also it works in double battle
They should just give it Clear Body like its children. There's another comment in this section saying "why do I feel like Clear Body Regigigas would be balanced in this format..."
he is in my opinion the best pokemon ever 720BST a WHOPPING 170 attack with a busted ability that raises its already crazy attack even higher decent speed in 148 good defenses in 115 for both special and normal a great signature steel type move to counter faires great coverage and finally best type combo in steel fairy
To me it feels like an attempt to create a Pokémon to dumpster xern, which almost inherently makes it one of the best Pokémon ever created, and on top of that it arguably didn’t work. In the one non max format we had the zacian against xern mu was even
In my opinion, an unhealthy aspect of the Urshifu twins is that there is no way of knowing which form is coming while in team preview. It’s so unfun to get surprised with a win condition late game when you had no way of preparing for which form was coming other than inferring based on the opponent’s team composition.
yeah but most times its pretty obvious which form based on team composition there are def some wack teams where you can't k but atleast for series 12 its pretty obvious.
Also everyone remember many of these analysis are very vgc oriented, some mons that wolfe might want banned could be perfectly balanced in singles and the reverse for others
I remember seeing some comments on a singles video about how a Trick Room Ability that activated on switch would be perfectly fine since it doesn't last very long. The comments were like "I don't get why Gamefreak doesn't just make this a thing, it would really help." Completely forgetting about VGC. The craziest thing though was the guy saying Regigas should get the ability to help it out since it sucked. Calling me dumb when I pointed out even removing its ability temporarily with Weezing made it good in VGC. It's really funny how VGC and Singles are so seperated as communities.
The Regional Dex formars are normally like that, with only either the new legendary trio (or quadriplets in the case of Tapus) or in Gen 6's case just reusing the Legendary Birds instead of having their own trio Gen 8 had none prior to the DLC
I'd like a no lego format. Lego formats are easier to play when the meta is more well defined and centralized, but a handful of legos invalidate hundreds of non-lego options. Sure there are meta defining mons in a no lego format, but the power level difference between the meta mons and off meta options isn't as huge as in a lego format.
That analysis about Regieleki was absolutely brilliant, but I can't believe you missed another very important fact. It being Electric type means it can't be paralyzed ever, so even with Prankster, strategies to shut down fast pokes with Thunder Wave and Stun Spore are completely nullified against it.
For the record, Electric type Pokémon post Gen V cannot be paralyzed by any means. Including moves like Stun Spore and body slam. Unless you can evidently prove it and prove every Pokémon information site like Bulbapedia and Serebii are factually wrong.
Honestly I liked that one formate with a banlist, rotated banlists like that could make it so competitive doesn't have to always deal with unfair mons being added, plus simply gives the main game a chance for more formats to be run at the same time.
Honestly if they did a separate format that banned the top 20 used Pokémon of last month in an unrestricted format and the top two of last month in this format, it could be so interesting. The meta would always be changing and would force people to use their brains and come up with new strats instead of riding legendaries and one team all the way up the rankings.
I was actually quite shocked that we didn't get a Restricted + ban list series for Gen 8. The ban list series was my overall favorite (although it could have been improved with separate banlists for 2v2 and 1v1, as there was no real need for Excadrill to be banned imo, among others).
The thing about removing one is that Gamefreak would have to remove the others as well. Like if they remove Xerneas, it'd only make sense that they also removed Yveltal. Or for Venusaur they'd have to remove all gen 1 starters - and how could they live without the wonderchild Charizard?
Yeah he needed to include Char, not because of any competitive prowess, but because we're over it by now lol. Fwiw, they did break up the starter trios in Legends, and Venu/Blas were only available in the expansion pass, so maybe they're finally demonstrating that they're comfortable not treating the starters as pre-packaged sets of 3's. At least I hope.
charizard is a the poster child of Gamefreak/Pokemon and b it just keeps getting support: mega evolution, gigantamax charizard isn't even 'strong' by all means Gamefreak just gives Venusaur and Blastoise 'equal treatment' just so they can support Charizard
I'm not sure this is true. Legends Arceus had Cyndaquil, but no other Johto starters. Same applies to Oshawott and Rowlet, with no Gen 5 and Gen 7 starters respectively
@@gengarzilla1685 tbf, Darkrai was always a mythical whiling Cresseila is not it is true they bought Charizard back and only Charizard *first* before the brung back the other 2 whenever HOME was originally released
I genuinely do not know how Xern/ Eleci can be balanced going forward. The others feel like they could be brought in line with some small changes (no crown for zacian, no fusion for calyrex, new ability or removing the signature move for ushifu). It would be a shame if gen 8 set a trend of powercreeping the strongest mon of the current gen to make new ones viable.
With Eleki, a combination of nerfing its ability along with some changes to its Gen 9 moveset (or even nerfing specific moves) might do the trick, but some of these changes would either be not enough on their own or could have some massive ramifications for other mons. Xerneas is never getting nerfed directly imo. We'll just have to wait for powercreep, sadly.
@@soniccoconut2680 That's fix it but I don't know if they'd nerf it like that. More than likely, it'd have to be through changing how the Power Herb works.
Just nerf behmoth blade to 85% and interpret sword, same with astral barrage and separate as one back into the respective abilities, and the ushifu twins are the same with the move nerf, make em 50% on crits if ya still want em powerful. Xern is a tough one and eleci just needs a way to be paralyzed, like a new move that can paralyze electrics or something.
I feel like you forgot something about what makes Zacian and Calyrex so overpowered. If Calyrex Dynamaxes and uses Max Phantasm, that drops the opponent's defense by 1 stage, which makes Zacian's Behemoth Blade so much more dangerous. Calyrex being just a little faster than Zacian means that you can just hit with Calyrex's max moves and then ensure a KO with Behemon Blade that your opponent could have survived otherwise.
I miss the National Dex meta =/ Being surprised by a random NU pokémon in a OU format was really fun... I never got salty when loosing a game like that (plus Draft Leagues were more fun and diverse)
This may be a hot take but I think that they should put everything in, every gimmick every pokemon, but have rulesets that restrict what you can use. Similar to the different series in gen 8.
The reason they cut them is because it took too long to develop, not for balance purposes. Obviously the games would sell better if they still had megas and maybe Z moves and of course all the pokemon but it gets to the point where it just takes way too long to add them all.
I think what they should've done way back in SwSh was gradually update the game with more and more Pokemon until all of them were in, they could then just re-use that code for future titles. They kinda did this with the DLC but they never went all the way.
Honestly I think zacian’s rusted sword will get removed in gen 9 just like how the red and blue orbs were removed in gen 8 This would make zacian far less broken in vgc IMO

A lot of the centralized meta and power creep in standard play is why I play lower tiers when I play Gen 8. A lot of lower tier metas are more balanced. In particular UU is basically OU but without the main threats of that tier (seriously there’s so few bans in the transition), but it’s enough for the tier to be that much more dynamic. ZU is also a really fun tier, and is one of my favorite tiers in all of Pokémon. It’s really underrated, and more people should try it
Did i miss something, or did you never bring up removing Landorus-T? In my opinion he is on par with incineroar, he is better than inc in singles, but a little worse in doubles. They do the same thing but for different formats.
Pokémon has been power creeping for its entire life. In the games, the cards, heck, even in Unite. It’s seems their general solution to a broken/unbalanced thing is just to add an even stronger thing. They “fixed” dragon by adding fairy, for instance. So, I wouldn’t be shocked if they make the next batch of legends just as ridiculous as Zacian and Eleki, rather than actually cutting other ones.
I've been saying all generation that the idea to cut Pokemon from games is not, ON IT'S OWN, a bad idea. I'd like to see Scarlet/Violet cut a handful of staples from all tiers so we can see unique metagames develop every generation.
I would prefer if they just let you transfer any Pokemon you want to the games, but specifically restricted ones that can't be found in the game itself from competitive play. People should still be allowed to use their favorites in the single-player campaigns or casual battles with their friends.
I think more of the bad old Pokémon like Electrode and Shuckle should be cut to make the Pokédex easier to complete, and so the newer Pokémon can shine.
To go further, I would like to see a "National Dex" battle format added to Pokemon Home. Pokemon Home is sorely living beneath its potential. It should be a viable "Home" for Pokemon not present in any given generation rather than the dump it currently is. To go even further beyond, I think it'd also be a good home for the Battle Frontier and other traditional postgame modes that Game Freak has become seemingly allergic to implementing.
Zacian's an easy fix: lose the stat boosts. Its stats were good enough already, have the crowned forme give it the steel typing and a new ability at the cost of its item and bam - a still really good Pokemon. Xerneas is also an easy fix: stagger Geomancy's boosts so that it gains its sp.defence on the first turn, then the sp.attack and speed on the second turn. Because it would no longer be a charging move, Power Herb would no longer apply. Forcing it to be a two turn thing opens it up to counterplay and disruption but the payoff is still good enough that its worth playing into and building a team around. As for the rest, I got nothing. Changing Regieleki would break its theming. Everything about Calyrex is absurd. Urshifu is on a perpetual knifedge of being overpowered and wholly mediocre, same with Rillaboom. Everything great about Incineroar fits it so well that you just wouldn't WANT to take away its toys... Shout out to that thumbnail bait though.
dude to get crowned forme you already give up your item. It has to be rusted sword. It is still pretty OP. Tbh, if you want a super OP pokemon you could just get rid of the ability and keep the rest.
@@ericlohndorf9166 actually, that is genious! It would be a great way to nerf zacian but still make it make sence. So like it reverts forms and when it switches in next time, it can't become crowned forme :)
@@istillcantthinkofaname7993 they should also create different ways to get rid of items, trick, switcheroo, knock off and corrosive gas are good, but honestly, zacian will take out any Pokémon before they use those moves
One problem I have with how they’ve been handling Pokémon for the past few years is that every game they add a new gimmick which they then abandon by the next gen. I think dynamax is gonna be the worst example yet when the new games come out because so many new Pokémon this gen were balanced around the dynamax format. In the same way that most Pokémon that got cool mega evolutions stopped being used when they phased it out.
I agree woth you, but i also think that it helps to change the meta every new game. Of course a few strats and pokemon are always strong, but others will stop being so powerful and leave soace for other mons
Hard agree. Terrastilizing is cool for the added type, and perhaps competitively it will be great. But I found 0 instances in game beyond 5*+ raids to do so. It's really unneccessary.
I’m surprised Lando T didn’t make the list despite the thumbnail. Amazing offenses and typing, 2 very useful immunities, has intimidate, access to Swords Dance, Earthquake and U turn and to top it off isn’t even a restricted mon, it’s very existence invalidates normally viable picks like Garchomp and Arcanine and is absolutely unhealthy
I've heard that Landorus' Therian Forme is considered something of a "glue" Pokémon in certain metagames like Smogon's OU Tier. It's supposedly so good at role compression that it actually opens up potential team slots rather than shutting them down. If you need multiple roles on a team but don't want to dedicate too many team slots to it, it's recommended to look at Landorus-T because it can do a lot of things that can allow teams to work. Ignore my pfp
if I had to guess I'd say it's under the assumption that Dynamax will no longer be a thing; in the one non-Dynamax series recently (I forget which number) it was actually outclassed by its other form, it only gets Fly as a physical flying move which really hurts it, assuming they don't give it Aerial Ace or something in Gen 9 it probably wouldn't be too ridiculously unbalanced
This generation was very reactive, favoring dynamic match reading ability over in the moment strategy. Moreso than pretty much any other modern generation, the prevailing theme for gen 8 was and is "getting momentum and holding onto it," rather than "continuously fighting for momentum." Dynamax as a concept is a microcosm of that.
As a singles-format player, I can say with certainty that I absolutely despise Dynamax. Of course it doesn't negatively impact doubles-format (the only one Wolfey plays) but for my beloved singles-format it has made the whole ordeal unbearable, I pray that Gen IX removes this feature
i disagree, dynamax is a mechanic that changes the momentum of the fight, constantly. what you are saying is also not true, considering the dynamic speed of the current game. there is not strategy game, especially a turn-based one, in which you are not trying to keep the momentum you have earned. what you are saying was more true in older formats. The pokemon are as strong/fast as ever that also negate what you are saying.
@@strawberrijam3676 Dynamax is a mechanic that can only be used once in a battle and lasts for a max of 3 turns. It's usually used to either grab momentum early in the match, deepen existing momentum to close out a dub, or as a counter to seize momentum from an opponent. There is literally no way a one time use mechanic can give advantages to a player's ability to gain offensive momentum dynamically throughout the extent of a full match or set *apart from* having a minor impact on positioning/counterpositioning, so your first point is ridiculous. Second yes, obviously strategy games are all about momentum, nowhere did I say this was a new thing, but some strategy games are more tactical while others are more top down strategic. Generally, in a game that's very polarized/luck dependent, (ie. speed ties between calyrex astral barrages being the primary factor behind whether you win or lose a game) matches are decided based on who achieves and holds onto momentum first, rather than who's holding onto the momentum at the end of the match. You can play out of your mind, but if you make one mistake against the opponent's dynamax mon or lose a speed tie, you'll lose the game anyway, that's what this is about. And stat totals being the highest they've ever been literally only adds to that polarization. Everything you're describing contributes to macroscopic game strategy, not dynamic tactical decisions. You can't change ev spreads on the fly, you can't change dominant threats in the format at all, and you'd have to be completely unfamiliar with the format to call dynamax a tactical tool in anything other than very specific scenarios.
“We added this mechanic that can make every Pokémon super overpowered in an instant, so in order to balance it, let’s make a bunch of legendaries that are also that way by default.”
To your final notes, if they were to implement drowsy into the game I believe both Venusaur and Smeargle would be less viable or at least far less popular in their respective roles as a result.
@@JB-bc2ry Yeah, nerfing any individual move really wouldn’t affect Smeargle as much as it affects any other user of that move. Like, if GameFreak somehow decided to make Fake Out 25% accuracy (an insane change but let’s pretend here), it would hurt lots of Fake Out users for sure, but Smeargle could just run a different disruption move. So Smeargle would be hit the least out of anyone that can learn Fake Out. I love the gimmick of Smeargle in a regular play through but there’s no way I’d ever want him legal in VGC again…
I'm not entirely sure, drowsy makes the pokemon inflicted with it to take more damage from attacks and there is still a 50% chance they don't move which is the same as confusion pre gen 8.

New Video Idea: Wolfey balances Fairy type from A-tier to C-tier to D-tier. Basically opposite of his Ice and Bug videos, but also taking into consideration that Fairy can easily be balanced by making types like Ghost and Psychic resist it, while also having Ghost and Dark be supereffective against it
I've toyed with the idea of Psychic being immune to Fairy in the past. I don't remember the logic behind it though... maybe just psions seeing through their deception?

What I really like about this video and the breakdown of broken aspects of Pokémon is that these Pokémon don’t necessarily need to be omitted but it opens the conversation of what could or should be nerfed if these Pokémon stick around in Gen 9
They gave Intimidate more counters bye the existence of Defiant in Gen 5, Competitive in Gen 6, and the newly buffed Inner Focus (Meinshao is perfect Incine counter without max), Obvlious (Mamo is perfect Lando-T counter on paper) and Scrappy, all ignoring Intimidate whiling Rattled boost spe from Intimidate They nerfed Prankster, Thunder Wave, and Confusion all combined, because of Thundurus-I alone They also gutted Talonflame completely just by making Gale Wings only work at full HP for Rillaboom, they could A) distribute Dazzling/Queenly Majesty to more pokemon B) nerf Grassy Glide from 70 -> 60 or C) delete Grassy Glide all together, the most likely option knowing GF (which also sadly meant deleting the likes of Triple Axel, Poltergeist, Scorching Sands, and Flip Turn too)
@@goGothitaLOL I think they're most likely to nerf the moves themselves given cases like Dark Void, or the nerf to Aegislash. They do direct nerfs not general ones like smogon
@@goGothitaLOL "deleting grassy glide" is actually the most unlikely option. "movexit" only happened to reduce the pool from redundant or "obnoxious" moves. Duraludon is also the only mon that has Stalwart currently and it can just focus on using its much higher SpA, but I think giving it that buff would be kinda nice if the ability got some more widespread distribution along with the similar Propeller Tail (which BTW I think the Buizel line should definitely have)

Wolfey are you able to do a video on why legendaries are OK in competitive? I just think they cause a lot of problems in the game and don't really solve any problems at first glance.
Some legendaries are significantly better than others, which is why pokemon get restricted instead of just banning legends. Regirock isnt very good and its a legendary, so banning it would be kind of strange
@@Zylefer It would also completely invalidate pokemon which arent oppressive to the meta. There are plenty of legendaries which arent oppressive, and would likely not be used at all if they were only usable in non-restricted formats.
@@Zylefer unfortunately, making a legendary ban will actually make the non-legendaries that are already better then most legendaries (Rillaboom for example) be waaaayyyy too good.
Because not every legendary is broken, only specific ones like magearna and landorus. The term legendary is arbitrary anyways since there's plenty of just as strong or stronger pokemon that aren't legendary.
The talk on Zacian makes me think about how overshadowed Zamazenta crowned is. People forget it still has 130 base attack (basically the same as Solgaleo) and 128 (A tad slower than Mewtwo) base speed. Having 145 in defences and 92 HP makes it pretty bulky too! (It’s no Giratina-A by any means but…) Just a shame it lacked the tools it needed to truly succeed in this generation (like body press or some reliable recovery).
I'm 100% convinced that most Pokemon aren't designed with the competitive scene in mind. They just want to make a "super cool and powerful Pokémon that everyone will love because it's soooo cool and strong and aaaaawesome" The only balance is a newer cooler and stronger mon that makes the previous one look like a little bi...baby...like a little baby.
The way you solve all of this is to add a battle feature to Pokemon Home. All the competitive battles take place via Home. The reason why you solve all of this is that you wouldn't have to release the legendaries over and over again.
After spending time on Showdown - with all its QOL features and ease-of-access/use - this is a no-brainer. It would make life so much easier for both long-time and new fans that like to collect or play competitive. That won't happen because people buying new gens means more monies (and this is the Pokemon Company + GameFreak we're talking about), but a pokefan can dream...
I've been saying this since home has been announced. They should have a Smogon/Battle Revolution type system in Home where if you catch a Pokemon in game and upload it, you have access to it to play competitively. You can quickly change moves, held items, ability, evs, ivs etc, and this has no affect on the Pokemon uploaded. If you want a shiny version, you would have to upload that. This way it still has some connection to the game and Home. I think this would hopefully strengthen the base game as well, since you would have Home for collecting/competative and you could use the base games as just casual playthroughs.
Personally I still don’t think any Pokemon should be completely unavailable in the game - I’m still here because I want to “catch ‘em all” like I did in the 90s. What we need is games that let you have every ‘mon, but competitive formats that are more restrictive.
you know, i really, really, really LOVED xerneas' design when i got to see her in X. however, when i started to get into competitive pokemon last year, holy sh*t i have never despised a "considerably" long-cherished character (X is almost 9 yrs old already) THAT fast 🤣 i still really love her design though; but that's like 20% of her in my eyes now, and the 80% goes to how stupidly broken her shenanigan is in vgc 😂
as someone who is going to get into competitive pokemon with the new games and loves xerneas' design this is slightly depressing but also funny to read lmfao, excited for my love to turn to hate before my very eyes 😅
While I understand that it's not really problematic in doubles formats, Dracovish is absolutely disgusting in singles. Between Strong Jaw and the damage bonus for attacking first, Fishious Rend is functionally a 255 BP STAB move. In singles Dracovish can get away with a Choice Band, and against that level of power most Pokemon are utterly invalidated. Your only options are to bring a water immunity, or never allow Dracovish in against a slower Pokemon. That's just incredibly restrictive.
@@matthewmatthewsons6197 the problem with these types of solutions is now you have a very niche pokemon that's pretty limited in its use other than countering frail water types. Pretty much every "OP" pokemon has a simple counter, it's finding a versatile solution without having to run a gimmicky niche team that's the problem.
As someone who has a very hard time understanding competitive pokemon strats, you are genuinely one of the best youtubers I've ever seen at explaining this stuff! Thank you for going in depth even on things that I'm sure are obvious for people who regularly play competitively.
Holy cow, the segues/transitions are like butter - super smooth! On the note of Wenusaur, I agree that playstyle is problematic, but I think it's moreso the nature of sleep and sleep powder than Wenusaur itself - changes to either (or both) would be ideal because there will always be other things to take wenusaur's place.
Changing sleep to drowsy is way more practical and sensible than removing Venusaur _or_ Sleep Powder. Draconian deletions are not the best way to approach every single problem.
Considering how generations usually go, the legendaries at least won't be in at the beginning but will likely be there by the end whenever we get the "catch all legendaries" mechanic for the gen. Rillaboom I expect to also return but the hope is more that it loses Grassy Glide since it's otherwise fine without it. As for Pokemon to cut, I love Amoongus and like Togekiss but wouldn't mind having a generation without them on the vgc side of things.
I would honestly like to see them put in the legendary clause for VGC that you can bring 2 in the team, BUT only 1 for the battle. So you couldn't just slap out Kyogre and Zacian and call it a day. I would also like to see Trick, switcheroo and knock off work on Zacian, reverting it to its weaker form with its sword removed, offering more counterplay to it. Leaves me thinking after typing that tho, that most of these pokemon could be checked if more counterplay options that would be commonly used were put in place. More abilities having stat reduction immunities too. Soundproof ignoring intimidate, and Justified reversing it, aswell as reversing any sound based reductions, because Justice would never fall against such trifle words.
Here are some rough ideas on how to fix everyone featured in this wideo: - Regieleki: Make Transistor only a 1.3* boost (I guess you'd also have to apply that to Dragon's Maw and _maybe_ Steely Spirit / Steelworker), and nerf Electroweb to 80 or 85% accuracy. - Zacian: Adjust the stats a bit to give it 128 base Speed, 160 base Attack, with 20 of those points going into Sp. Atk (a 10 point nerf overall), nerf Blade to base 90, and make Intrepid Sword work sorta like Radical Red's Blademaster, but without the crits. To keep it in line with Zamazenta, just take 10 points out of his Sp. Atk. - Calyrex-Shadow: Giving Astral Barrage (+ Glacial Lance), the Groudon & Kyogre treatment would be a good place to start. Also, adjusting Spectrier's stats to move some stuff out of Sp. Atk and Speed and into its Attack stat would mean those changes should also apply to Shadow Rider, effectively nerfing 2 broken Pokemon for the price of one. - Urshifu: Nerf Wicked Blow from 80 to 70, and make Unseen Fist only apply to fist-based attacks. - Rillaboom: Just make Grassy Glide base 55 to 65, and I think that's all you'd need to do. - Grimmsnarl: I think he's fine, honestly. - Incineroar: I think they could make more abilities immune to Intimidate (maybe Big Pecks, Propeller Tail / Stalwart, Unaware, etc.), or maybe even make some abilities protect both Pokemon from Intimidate. Otherwise just remove Parting Shot from its legal learnset or nerf it in a similar vain to Intimidate. - Xerneas: Make it so that Power Herb no longer enables insta-Geomancy. That's all you'd really need to do. - Venusaur: I think just implementing a slightly altered version of drowsy from Legends would solve a lot of stuff. - Smeargle: See Venusaur. Maybe have more moves that Smeargle isn't allowed to use. This one's a bit more wacky, but what if they made it so that only Grass-type Pokemon could put Pokemon fully to sleep with Spore, while non-Grasses like Smeargle would only make them drowsy? (Oh yeah, removing Moody from the game entirely would also be good too)
A lot of these Pokémon and especially Grassy Glide feel like massive oversights, that I don’t know why some of these Pokémon aren’t restricted, I feel Clayrex and Urshifu should be restricted cause they’re technically mascot Pokémon for the DLC, also to make screens in general more balanced I think they need to make better screen removers
i do not agree with electro web, is not the move that is too powerful, but regieleki Urshifu i would say just reduce dmg on procted like z-moves and dynamax moves it would balance it out better (the two signature moves are first based probably, i don't think you can give them iron fist to try calculate if they are fist based or not tho) they are very weak on the special side that you can get 1/4 dmg on one pokemon and pratically one shot them just look at the dmg whimsicot do to them and it's faster smeargle just remove moody, it that ability that it's broken i do agree with removing parting shot on inci the ability to pivot is way too much for him, without it would get quite nerfed
lol just remove dynamax forever and make tailwind a tutor move again in gen 9, then regieleki will not long be considered as overwhelming as before, still would be great in vgc though played doubles ou and it actually isn't viable
I think it would be healthy to have some of these pokemon just... not show up for Scarlet/Violet. This isn't to say that current meta battles are completely uninteresting because of them: There are still cool battles and such. However, I tend to find myself rooting for the teams with more interesting comps than the standard meta pokemon you see on EVERY team these days. I did really like earlier Sword/Shield competitive because of the more limited dex/limited options to bring into competitive battles: Sure, there were still "The good pokemon", but you would have a much larger variety of teams because there were a much larger number of "valid" pokemon to bring to a matchup that weren't just invalidated by other picks.
I would cut both Groudon and Kyogre, not because they're unbalanced, but because they're super powerfull enablers. Let's be honest, rain teams would not be that annoying if their rain setter was just Pelliper intead of a water spout spamming monster that you can't switch into. And hurting sun would also hurt Venusaur. On another note, I really think all gen 8 legends will not be in SV, because I think they were only made as offensively strong as they are because dynamax exists. Without dynamax I don't know how Shadow Rider would have made the cut.
I'm surprised the Tapus aren't on the list. I love their designs, but they are centralizing as heck, we only forgot about them for gen8 because Regieleki is better Koko and both Lele and Fini don't matchup well into Zacian, Rillaboom and Eleki. Bulu was never a problem and was actually very cool, but it's outclassed by Rillaboom and it would be weird to remove the former 3 and let Bulu alone
Really interesting take Wolfe, stuff I hadn’t considered. Lightning rod surfing Pikachu was a staple on my team as a switch in for Regielekei. I definitely agree with all your points though, I trust your judgement given your record in competitive
I like how you say that people have different opinions on what they want. Personally I want my favorite mons back but also some good competitive mons too
As a singles player that got into vgc over the "pandemic" I can't tell you how much zacian/shadow rider ruined the experience for me. Really some of the most absurd power creeps IMO.
@@servilleta__6075 mega rayuaza need a new buff to counter Zacian, give it 150 base speed, and an ability that makes its Draco meteor always one shot Zacian and only Zacian, it’s does 20 damage to everything else. Fixed the whole meta 😎
ok but i cannot express how much having venasaur in the dlc made me happy. i don’t know why but just running around the isle of armour and the crown tundra with my giant flower frog lagging behind just made my mental health go 📈📈📈📈
you can save venusaur easily by removing sleep powder or cholorphyll and moveset / ability changes are pretty common between gens. Also I don't see them dropping Kanto starters because uh nostalgia goggles
It doesn't have much typing variety, but it's moves are very unique (compared to each other). We're talking about a move that drops speed, a move that let's you switch out (while doing decent damage) and a move that does good damage. It's like Yveltal. Yveltal gets a strong move that heals you 75%, a move that drops the opponents special attack, a move with priority and move that uses the opponents attack stat (great for calyrex ice or solgaleo).
it also doesn't help that electric is just an inherently good offensive typing. Like yes you can only do electric attacks but what are they gonna do about it, there's only really 4 types that even resists
My smeargle I used are a gambler, running Pay Day, Happy Hour, Trump Card, and Metronome holding an amulet coin for double the money, a Sun worshiper running Sunsteel Strike, Sunny Day, Solar Beam, and Morning Sun, and a Moon Worshiper running Lunar Dance, Moonlight, Moongeist Beam, and Cosmic Power, ran them as themed heroes each specializing in a specific Gimmick, a big pain in the but to do in Gen 7, as I needed to teach a wild smeargle the move I wanted and then teach that same move to my smeargle, but it was fun, and broken using Assist Smeargle
Honestly, the ideal dex to me is 300, about the amount of PLA. But add spicy new Moves and Move sets for returning mons, and boost the stats of underwhelming returning mons by 20-40 BST And also remix Abilities in some new ways, like what if Limber also prevented Speed loss or trapping? Or if Keen Eye allowed increased critical hit rate to Moves that don't Miss? It's a tiny niche thing, but cute and nice. Or what if the Abilities like Blaze, Torrent, and Overgrow gave Crits to those Moves if in low HP instead? Effectively same ×1.5 Damage, and can't get boosted further from crits, but can break through some disadvantages to give it that epic comeback feel and prevent those Abilities from being ignored so much. I know 300 is not an ideal dex for everyone though. I just hope the returning pokemon feel like they get a little love through forms, representation, Signature Moves, or other fun little twists
Your average pokemon line has 2.5 evolutions. Let's call it 2 for the sake of making easy numbers because I am going to use lines of pokemon for this math. So we have 150 lines in this assumed scenario. 3 lines are starters, 3 lines are "title legendaries", 2 are lower legendaries mythical pokemon are not added to these tiers. On average each game has around 8 pokemon lines version locked. So let's remove 16 pokemon lines from populating the world map. 134 pokemon lines currently. On average we have over 25 routes but this is a solid number for this exercise. 134/25 = 5.36 pokemon lines per route. Which in theory isn't a bad number. In practice we normally have static pokemon reducing the pokemon pool total, an over abundance statistically of water types avalible either by fishing or dispoportunatly on water routes and a common trend to have "strong" pokemon lines hidden in post game areas. A dex of 400 mons would net give 2 more pokemon lines per route avalible reducing the potential problem. Assuming the next SV are fully open world games then hopefully the majority of the issue with the normal diversity spread in pokemon games.
@@sinnohperson8813 Oh I absolutely believe it. Ideal for me def does not mean ideal for everyone else. I expect 400-500 but little attention to rework returning mons.
One of the issues is that I doubt they will ever cut certain Pokémon, like Legendary (both "box" ones and trios) from the games. They're juicy enough to ensure they get some sort of postgame campaign, as were the Ultra Wormholes from USUM or the Dynamax Adventures from SwSh.
I think another thing that solves some power creep issues is format. Fewer formats with restricted legendaries, as well as possibly formats without any legendaries allowed sounds like a lot more fun imo. This could lead to the rise of some gimmicky OP strategies, but I think overall it would give more Pokémon a fair shot at competing. Alternatively, there could be a “no top picked Pokémon” format (I think they may have done this once). Ban the top 5% of Pokémon getting 50%+ of the play time (eat the rich) to allow outclassed ones to shine.
I love the step up in editing in your videos now Wolfe. Glad you got the editor. Makes the content a lot more enjoyable and I've been here for a long time so not saying it wasn't before but man is it easy on the eyes. You and your Channel are single handedly responsible for me having VGC matches playing on TH-cam in the morning while I get ready for work. As a Pokemon casual, thanks alot for helping me discover and access this dope comp side.
I think Urshifu would be fine if Wicked Blow and Surging Strikes were just toned down to ~60 and 20 Base Power respectively, totalling in an effective 90 base power with crits. This would keep their space in the meta of being hard to slow down and hinder with Protects and Intimidates, but it would come at the trade-off of offering less immediate damage output compared to other offensive threats.
Honestly, I feel like the problem with Urshifu isn't it's signature move's damage. The problem is that it's not considered a restricted mon. Just make Urshifu a restricted, that would help a lot.
@@merlintheageless Why would it be a restricted? It’s not a cover legendary, and it has the lowest BST of all legendaries besides Type: Null, Phione, Zygarde 10%, Cosmog and Cosmoem. Urshifu is nowhere near as good as the restricted Pokémon, making it one would render it completely unusable. The main issue with Urshifu is definetely the signature move, in combination to Unseen Fist. Completely bypassing both Protect and Intimidate is very strong, but it’s not broken unless your base damage output is too high.
I’d like to see a lot of the restricted Pokémon left behind. Besides the ones that you mentioned kyogre and groudon always have such an influence on the meta when they’re legal so it would be nice to play in a restricted format without them
I would have to vote for the absolute menace you put in the thumbnail. Lando T has been the poster child of power creep IMO since he was released. Even though it was his regular form that was banned to ubers (i am going based on smogon OU since i have very limited VGC experience), Lando T was polarizing for years but was never banned because "it wasnt fast enough" or "it has a 4x weakness to a common attacking type" when in reality its combination of bulk, enough speed to make scarf very threatening, and absurd attack levels on TOP OF intimidate making it survive hits it shouldn't, made it just ludicrously strong and almost necessary for a team to even compete because the other player would most certainly have one. If you ever watch FalseSwipeGaming and their history of competitive pokemon videos (highly recommend especially if ones like this from Wolfey are interesting), youd notice that once the games hit gen 5, half the roster became completely unviable due to the monstrous levels of power creep. Lando T was the front runner and captain of that ship IMO. Sorry for the long comment, great video Wolfey, love the content, I hate Lando T, Peace.
Incineroar is my favorite Pokémon and I would be sad to see him not appear in gen 9 but considering just how ubiquitous he is in VGC, I think he can tale a game off. He's had his time in the sun and proved that he deserves putting respect on his name and for me, that was enough to make me happy.
Amazing video, i think competitive pokemon can be so much more fun if more pokemon options are available and not destroyed based upon certain pokemon just existing! Team crafting is one of my favorite parts about this game and i dont want to just build teams around broken pokemon, i want to play on offense too! in an actual creative way!
I agree a lot! Despite absolutely loving Regieleki, Xerneas, and Smeargle, one thing that made me stop playing ranked battles is seeing the same Pokémon over and over again, and losing to Pokémon like Indeedee, Incineroar, Togekiss, Excadrill, and many more. I’d rather things be more balanced on the battlefield so I can use Pokémon I like. Losing to Pokémon I hate and using Pokémon I hate just takes all the fun out of it for me. If it were truest balanced, I could leave the Pokémon I mentioned in the trash where they belong and actually enjoy playing.
this is the only real complaint abt gen 8 competitive i have. even back in gen 5 or 6 u had a ton of troll sets & unorthodox strategies that worked (my fav has always been extremespeed/last resort/belly drum linoone bc i played monotype a lot). nowadays everyone just picks from the same pool of pkmn at every tier n pitting them against one another in only slightly different ways
They need to cut shedinja cuz if its in scarlet and violet, it can electric tarastilize and hold an air balloon, making it’s only weakness mold breaker pokemon
Incineroar always strikes me because of how much better it is than other supports. Like, most supports choose 2 of Fake Out, Parting Shot, Will-o-Wisp, Intimidate. Incineroar gets all of those, which means pokemon like A-Persian, Arkanine, or Krookidile are pushed out because Incineroar does all of those combined. I think similarly Lando-T pushes out a lot of Earthquake users, though Dynamax setting sandstorm also doesn't really help. The only think that I think keeps Lando-T in check is the 4x weakness to ice.
I won't mind having any of these not return, but since they will likely return eventually, I think addressing their brokenness head-on is still worthwhile. Here are some ways I think would be interesting: * These are all assuming Dynamax is gone. Regieleki - Removing its access to Electroweb and lowering the boost that Transistor gives to be the same as Aerialate and Pixelate should make it much more manageable but still a solid threat on Electric spam teams. I don't even want to think of this thing getting access to Hidden Power ever in the future though. Zacian - Just remove Rusted Sword from the game. Base form Zacian should be significantly easier to manage. If the Rusted Sword has to stay, then making it so that it can be Tricked or Knocked Off to revert Zacian to its base form would give some nice counterplay. The big one would be to just make its stats something reasonable. Maybe make is slower when its in Crowned Form like Zamazenta. Or heck, even change its type to Steel and Fighting like Zamazenta; I have no idea what makes this thing a Fairy type in the first place. Zacian is such a colossal failure in balancing that you can weaken in a dozen different ways. Calyrex-Shadow - Drop Astral Barrage to 110 base power and lowering its speed to 120 would make it more manageable in restricted formats. Urshifu - Give it the Gale Wings treatment and make it so that Unseen Fist only works at full health, that way players are rewarded with its powerful ability if they can keep it healthy. Lowering the base power of Surging Strikes to 20 base power and Wicked Blow to 70 would also help if you wanted to go even further. Rillaboom - This one was so easy I'm mad they didn't do it originally: Rillaboom doesn't get Grassy Glide but Tapu Bulu does. Also lower the base power of Grassy Glide to 60. This makes Rillaboom and Tapu Bulu have notable advantages and disadvantages over the other as Grassy Terrain setters. Grimmsnarl - I don't know, it might be fine without Dynamax, but we'll have to wait and see. Incineroar - Just change its Hidden Ability from Intimidate to Vital Spirit. It would still be a good pivot, but it wouldn't be the omni-present nuisance it is now. Xerneas - Power Herb not working with Geomancy is the obvious one, but I think might be too harsh. Xerneas is really the poster child for the Fairy type being overpowered, so fixing the Fairy type might be enough. Venusaur - This thing should not get Sleep Powder AND Chlorophyll. It invalidates practically every other Chlorophyll user because of it. Removing Sleep Powder from its move pool would give Pokemon like Lilligant and Vileplume to have notable advantages over it. Smeargle - lmao, how is Moody still in the game? Just completely scrap it. It adds nothing.
The Calyrex-Shadow fixes are spot on, but I doubt we'll ever see such a massive single stat nerf. I can see them nerfing Astral Barrage by making it weaker and/or less accurate though. Another fix would be to remove the Calyrex forms outright, but that's even more unlikely.
one easy way they could nerf Zacian is by not adding the rusted sword (and shield) in the next generation. Similar to how Kyogre and Groudon dont have their primal forms in gen 8.
My vote for a cut: all previous legendaries. I very much doubt it'll happen, but I think it'd be a great way to shake things up assuming VCG rules still allow for a couple on your team. And I'm sure they'll introduce some busted new ones, so those'll still be an option.
Wolfe, I'm kind of interested in what you think the next generational gimmick will be. Also if you were to create a generational gimmick, what is something you'd make like Megas / Z-Moves / Dynamaxing that would be balanced for competitive.
The journeys anime has an interesting rule which I think could work. Trainers are limited to choosing to either dynamax, mega evolve or use a z move. They can’t use a combination of all 3 in one battle. They can bring all 3 options into a match but if they dynamax, they can’t mega evolve another Pokemon either. One battle ash was wearing a keystone ring, but as the battle went on, he took it off and put on the dynamax band and used that instead.
@@AmateurHEROduelist only problem with that is I think z-move can never be made as strong as dynamax and mega as well as that currently I think dynamax will also be more powerfull than mega however if they rebalance the tree to be more similar it could be good but sounds too high effort for gamefreak + not as big of a wow factor as a new mechanic.
Personally, I love zacian, it's one of my favorite pokemon, but as much as it hurts me to say, I do think it should not be accessible in scarl/violet vgc. Venasaur is also like my favorite pokemon of all time, so I'd have to disagree with you on that, and only nerf sleep powder, becauase I do agree it's not competitive.
Here's an interesting compromise idea: bring back national dex (or expand the regional one a bit more), which many casual players saw as a huge turn off, myself included, but have ban lists that are made specifically for competitive players that would update regularly (say once per month) as the meta evolves and have some Pokemon be banned or restricted in some way (ie Rillaboom not being allowed to know Grassy Glide and/or have its hidden ability, the combo that made it such a serious threat, but still allow it to be used otherwise, as without it it's just meh most of the time) to keep gameplay fresh and interesting for competitive players while allowing casuals to be able to use their favorites without having to fear them being cut from the game. This may not be realistic in practice, but in theory, at least in my opinion, it's a good idea.
I honestly don't see national Dex staying around much longer. Back in the day when the number of Pokemon was smaller and the graphics where simple sprites it was easier to balance and animate...not to excuse their more recent low quality models and animations, but with almost 1000 Pokemon at this point it's just going to get harder and harder to develop and the costs are going to outweigh the benefits. Yes Gamefreak has more money then God but they are still going to cut things or corners specifically. It's just a logistical thing really. It might actually make the competitive better as they rotate Pokemon in and out each game. Does that suck for people who wanna catch em all? Yeah. But I get the feeling that Gamefreak cares more about catering to competitive and the vast majority of players who don't transfer their Pokemon between generations since I feel they are kinda a minority.
As a YuGiOh player, I can tell you that the banlist is an extremely controversial thing to the point that people have been wishing that YuGiOh had a rotational format of sorts like Pokemon does currently
It annoys me so much that some pokemon reward you so much for simply sending them out (ex: Zacian, Calyx-s), but Regigigas still has Slow Start for "balance"
If it was 2 turn like giga-imp or HypBeam I feel like it would be in a better position (2 turns BEFORE normal stat change)
I know right? Literally normal regigigas with no ability wouldnt even be close to the best pokemon, but they still neuter the guy.
It honestly feels like they intentionally designed Zacian to be the single best pokemon in a dynamax format
I feel like whatever Pokémon they make in a generation with a gimmick they make really strong. Mega Rayquaza, Ultra Necrozma and Zacian.
Zacian is good in any format.
@@IgnitedQuils With that logic it should have been Eternatus and not Zacian tho'

with a busted ability that raises its already crazy attack even higher
decent speed in 148
good defenses in 115 for both special and normal
a great signature steel type move to counter faires
great coverage and finally best type combo in steel fairy
Sounds like you just need to git gud.

Good thing VCG is easily the most superior format, so that's not at all an issue.
Also to keep in mind, if mons are intentionally cut (in a competitive sense), then they'll almost certainly focus on VGC, that's all they care about.
@@PersonOfRandomnesss they also care about their base game (which is 98% single battles)

It's really funny how VGC and Singles are so seperated as communities.

hi
Can't wait for Gen 9 to give us a Bipedal grass starter final Evo :)
Honestly I just want a VGC format that doesn't have legendaries/mythics. The sword and shield meta before DLC and restricted mons was so much fun
I always taper off VGC in those formats. Such a headache.
It was great becuase mons like hatterenne were somewhat viable
Everyone just ran Togekiss back then
In VGC there's always the top 12 everyone uses
The Regional Dex formars are normally like that, with only either the new legendary trio (or quadriplets in the case of Tapus) or in Gen 6's case just reusing the Legendary Birds instead of having their own trio
Gen 8 had none prior to the DLC
Does synchronize work?
Electric type can paralysed by stun spore

Honestly I liked that one formate with a banlist, rotated banlists like that could make it so competitive doesn't have to always deal with unfair mons being added, plus simply gives the main game a chance for more formats to be run at the same time.
series 6 wasnt a great format but i liked the concept.
The one series of SwSh VGC where they banned the top 15 Pokemon was so interesting.

Answer: don’t cut any Pokemon, just ban the overpowered ones in competitive or make multiple different categories or rulesets

This would basically be similar to how smoggon works right? If so i dont see why not
This may be a hot take but I think that they should put everything in, every gimmick every pokemon, but have rulesets that restrict what you can use. Similar to the different series in gen 8.
This is the most reasonable take
The reason they cut them is because it took too long to develop, not for balance purposes. Obviously the games would sell better if they still had megas and maybe Z moves and of course all the pokemon but it gets to the point where it just takes way too long to add them all.
My only problem to this would be lore wise GMAX/DMAX wouldn’t make sense as it’s stated they are exclusive to Galar
@@kerumathebloodgamer3055 Victor and Sonia just bring Eternatus and offer to build power spots in here.
I think what they should've done way back in SwSh was gradually update the game with more and more Pokemon until all of them were in, they could then just re-use that code for future titles. They kinda did this with the DLC but they never went all the way.
Honestly I think zacian’s rusted sword will get removed in gen 9 just like how the red and blue orbs were removed in gen 8

They did nerf the crap out of Thundurus in Gen7 though, and if not for Dynamax Thundurus would still have been quite meh

I've been saying all generation that the idea to cut Pokemon from games is not, ON IT'S OWN, a bad idea. I'd like to see Scarlet/Violet cut a handful of staples from all tiers so we can see unique metagames develop every generation.
Agreed. I stopped caring about the dex cut due to not using all the Pokémon and to have less centralizing threats makes the meta fresh.
I'd rather have everything.
You could remove Electroweb from its moveset (same with Grassy Glide for Rillaboom)

Imagine if it got a good physical one turn Flying move. That would make more powerful imo due to the near unresisted STAB coverage
It is going to be in SV because legends arceus
Lando is a very, very good pokemon, but i don't think we would be better off without him, same thing with Heatran
Tbf, this would hit Smeargle a lot less considering their literal maximized amount of available options they could run
@@JB-bc2ry Yeah, nerfing any individual move really wouldn’t affect Smeargle as much as it affects any other user of that move.
How does this solve anything? If he wants a competitive format without these Pokemon, then having the available doesnt solve anything.

Here are some rough ideas on how to fix everyone featured in this wideo:
- Regieleki: Make Transistor only a 1.3* boost (I guess you'd also have to apply that to Dragon's Maw and _maybe_ Steely Spirit / Steelworker), and nerf Electroweb to 80 or 85% accuracy.
(Oh yeah, removing Moody from the game entirely would also be good too)
A lot of these Pokémon and especially Grassy Glide feel like massive oversights, that I don’t know why some of these Pokémon aren’t restricted, I feel Clayrex and Urshifu should be restricted cause they’re technically mascot Pokémon for the DLC, also to make screens in general more balanced I think they need to make better screen removers
i do not agree with electro web, is not the move that is too powerful, but regieleki
Urshifu i would say just reduce dmg on procted like z-moves and dynamax moves it would balance it out better (the two signature moves are first based probably, i don't think you can give them iron fist to try calculate if they are fist based or not tho) they are very weak on the special side that you can get 1/4 dmg on one pokemon and pratically one shot them just look at the dmg whimsicot do to them and it's faster
smeargle just remove moody, it that ability that it's broken
i do agree with removing parting shot on inci the ability to pivot is way too much for him, without it would get quite nerfed
lol just remove dynamax forever and make tailwind a tutor move again in gen 9, then regieleki will not long be considered as overwhelming as before, still would be great in vgc though
played doubles ou and it actually isn't viable
Calyrex-shadow gets OHKOed by priority ghost or dark moves lol
Hmmm indeedee + calyrex shadow will be broken
Asking pokemon to not have the gen 1 starters in the next game is like asking for happiness in high school: impossible
Bring breloom back. Breloom is such a cool competitive Pokemon and is cool. Would love that menace to come back :).
Smeargle 😩
Are the clips for Gen 1-7 and Gen 8 at 3:12 accidentally swapped, or am I missing something?
id love to see a video of you taking about well designed pokemon, like in the pheromosa segment
I love how all of these (save Xerneas) ended up in Scar/Viol anyways

Really some of the most absurd power creeps IMO.
literally 2 abilities in one and being 50 points stronger than god. And I thought Mega Ray was bad...

you can save venusaur easily by removing sleep powder or cholorphyll and moveset / ability changes are pretty common between gens. Also I don't see them dropping Kanto starters because uh nostalgia goggles
Yo ok what if they just nerfed the pokemon instead of just removing them lol
@@daigonmocs0785 Venusaur got thrown under the bus for Blastoise, then Blastoise got thrown under the truck.
It’s crazy that Regieleki somehow has too much coverage despite having such little type coverage
But add spicy new Moves and Move sets for returning mons, and boost the stats of underwhelming returning mons by 20-40 BST
And also remix Abilities in some new ways, like what if Limber also prevented Speed loss or trapping?
If they have only 300 mons, then kids will flood the internet with hates
The irony that every Pokemon mentioned in this video (except for Xerneas) are in Scarlet and Violet and its DLC
I’d cut over half the dex and just focus on having a more diverse pool. If we have 1000 and not one of each type combo then that’s just poor planning
They did that and we all saw what happened
I think another thing that solves some power creep issues is format. Fewer formats with restricted legendaries, as well as possibly formats without any legendaries allowed sounds like a lot more fun imo. This could lead to the rise of some gimmicky OP strategies, but I think overall it would give more Pokémon a fair shot at competing.
Alternatively, there could be a “no top picked Pokémon” format (I think they may have done this once). Ban the top 5% of Pokémon getting 50%+ of the play time (eat the rich) to allow outclassed ones to shine.
Basically just let Smogon run official competition.
This would keep their space in the meta of being hard to slow down and hinder with Protects and Intimidates, but it would come at the trade-off of offering less immediate damage output compared to other offensive threats.
heck even 70bp would make more sense for wicked blow, that move is nuts
Just a quick pre-vid prediction: Incineroar is gonna be on the list isn't it.

In landos defense
Incineroar has replaced it
Puts landorous in the thumbnail and proceeds to not mention it at all
they could just cut certain pokemon from competitive instead of from the game? since all your problems were balance wise
Incineroar is my favorite Pokémon and I would be sad to see him not appear in gen 9 but considering just how ubiquitous he is in VGC, I think he can tale a game off. He's had his time in the sun and proved that he deserves putting respect on his name and for me, that was enough to make me happy.
The only reason why I want him to be in gen 9 is that seeing wolfeyvgc triggered is an experience limited to very little pokemom
One EXTREMELY SIMPLE trick to stop any and all Regieleki!
It's called extreme speed
You knew that already.
Amazing video, i think competitive pokemon can be so much more fun if more pokemon options are available and not destroyed based upon certain pokemon just existing!
Here are some ways I think would be interesting:
* These are all assuming Dynamax is gone.
How would you think Sleep changing to Drowsy from Arceus would affect Venusaur?
The Calyrex-Shadow fixes are spot on, but I doubt we'll ever see such a massive single stat nerf. I can see them nerfing Astral Barrage by making it weaker and/or less accurate though. Another fix would be to remove the Calyrex forms outright, but that's even more unlikely.
Wow, this whole video never actually mentioned Landorus despite being in the thumbnail.
one easy way they could nerf Zacian is by not adding the rusted sword (and shield) in the next generation.
Here’s an idea, keep the legendaries, but make a ranked battle setting with no legendaries.
I agree simply from a casual perspective. They aint so freaking legendary if they are obtainable in every game lmao.
But then they will use this complaint to make legendaries impossible to find.
There's a reason he released this video right before World Cup he doesn't want anyone being able to use these strategies
Wolfe, I'm kind of interested in what you think the next generational gimmick will be.
Also if you were to create a generational gimmick, what is something you'd make like Megas / Z-Moves / Dynamaxing that would be balanced for competitive.
Big abilities
I think it’s time to do away with the gimmicks. They were exciting for a while but they have grown stale quickly.
@@ducky36F yeah true
Personally, I love zacian, it's one of my favorite pokemon, but as much as it hurts me to say, I do think it should not be accessible in scarl/violet vgc. Venasaur is also like my favorite pokemon of all time, so I'd have to disagree with you on that, and only nerf sleep powder, becauase I do agree it's not competitive.
Never thought I'd see the day when a Pokemon fan is asking for mons to be removed/not implemented.
So basically hire Smogon to run official competition.
@@autobotstarscream765 I don't know how realistic that would be honestly.
