@@lowellcalavera6045 That is the point of the comment section. I heard this live at Bonnaroo and it was impressive. Fairly late in the evening if i remember correctly, but then again those are long days and sleep is short.
I absolutely love the original version as well as the alternative version. But this one hits me so deep, it's beautiful and haunting. Tom Petty saved my life so many lifes and right now, while I'm struggling again he's there again... Love to all of you
All due respect, I’ll take the alive, non-rebel Tom any day. All the footage that I’ve seen from the last tour clearly demonstrated he should have never been on the stage. I know he was stubborn to a fault, but I think everyone in his inner sanctum should’ve stepped in. There’s footage of him walking down the street days before he passed. It’s too sad to watch.
I still can’t believe this great man is gone. Everything he had ever written came from his heart and soul. I don’t just listen to his music, I feel it too.
Beautiful! I was born in Dixie on a Sunday morning and you bet I'm a rebel! Thanks for all the beautiful music Tom, it felt like you knew me...you knew us all and we'll never forget you!
My dad was born a rebel ... While managing to provide for his family and stay around when times were tough, he still fought the system in his own way and loved rebellious music ... Pity he wasn't familiar with TP, as he would have screamed along with the chorus of this one ! ... RIP Dad and Tom ... Wayne
I say, and say again, with the sole exception of that guy from Hibbing, Minn., TP was America's greatest songwriter of the last half century. And he has left a void so big it could crush this town...#WildOne4Ever
October 2, 2017.....not a good day. The atrocity in Las Vegas was bad enough. Hearing the news about Tom Petty passing was like the sucker gut-punch. Goodbye Tom. Thanks for the memories.
I logged on and saw the headline story of Vegas that day . I was horrified like everyone was. I noticed in small print on the right side of the MSN page that Tom had passed and I had that sucker gut-punch myself . It was a bad day .
tom was always a rebel from the day he started in the music business till he left this world way to soon. he never let the big guys tell him how to do his music or his shows. you got what you seen with him. one of the true greats in the music world and his loss will never be gotten over.
I've always loved 'Rebels', but I'd never heard this live acoustic version. Just amazing! It really shows the song and the message in a new light! God, I miss Tom like crazy!
Dreamt last night I was talking to Tom Petty and we were discussing the merits of steak and he said Texan steak is the best. And Bob Dylan was a few yards away maybe fixing a car.
This is one of my absolute favorite songs from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It's like a dream if I hear this song. Thank you Tom, thank you Heartbreakers. Ich liebe seine Musik, und sie gibt mir extrem viel. All the best from Bavaria.
This has become one of my favourite songs of Tom's. I love it so much. The opening line "Honey don't walk out, I'm too drunk to follow" really moves me. :-(
Anyone that sings about the glorious South and especially Tom Petty is a hero in my opinion. So tired of hearing how prejudice everybody is in the south. Talk about prejudice don't even get me started. Lol.
Of all the things I fear and dread everyday in this life I never feared or dreaded losing Tom ...I guess thats why I am like I am ..I just cant imagine certain things and those certain things I can imagine rip my fucking heart out . 39 years since I first heard Tom and the Heart Breakers..thats a long time kids ..Yesterday to some of us . Do the best you can with what you have and dont back down or bend over for anyone . Tom had open arms to love and gave the finger to haters and stupid people...and gave us amazing music that communicated it all ..Just still hurtin . Miss You Tom Petty .
Same here, 1976 I heard him and was hooked,,,,and he just got better and better. And never thought we'd lose him so young. A kick in my gut is how I feel, still do.
Petty was a true Southern man, pride and all. His rebel song was about me and my kind. I feel it in my 67 year old Southern bones. My father a fine Southern man born in 1901 taught me the old ways-thus I was blessed.. to think like a man from the 1850's..
...life can be a blast ....and then so damn harsh ...bad enough for me losing TPetty....can't imagine being Mike Campbell and crew....they practically grew up together and have seen and been thru so much ....and one day ...bam ....no goodbyes or anything ....wow
A very big thank you from one video artist to another, thanks. My mothers family comes from the same area of Florida as Tom Petty, it feels like home to me.
Honey don't walk out, I'm too drunk to follow You know you won't feel this way tomorrow Well, maybe a little rough around the edges Or inside a little hollow, I get faced with some things, sometimes That are so hard to swallow, hey! (hey hey hey) I was born a rebel, down in Dixie (hey hey hey) On a Sunday morning Yeah with one foot in the grave And one foot on the pedal, I was born a rebel She picked me up in the mornin', and she paid all my tickets Then she screamed in the car She Left me out in the thicket Well I never would of dreamed That her heart was so wicked Yeah but I keep comin' back Cause it's so hard to kick it, hey, hey, hey (hey hey hey) I was born a rebel down in Dixie (hey hey hey) On a Sunday morning Yeah with one foot in the grave And one foot on the pedal, I was born a rebel Even before my father's father They called us all rebels While they burned our cornfields And left our cities leveled I can still feel the eyes of those blue-bellied devils Yeah, when I'm walking round at night Through the concrete and metal, hey, hey, hey I was born a rebel, down in Dixie On a Sunday morning Yeah with one foot in the grave And one foot on the pedal, I was born a rebel
Southern Accents fell far short of its goal of making a big statement. But it left us with Rebels and the title track, which makes it a must have. Two of TP’s best ever songs.
You haven't heard Rebels until you've heard this acoustic version - just heartrending and beautiful.... God bless you Tom...
Who asked you?

That's absolutely right.
Your comment is exactly how I feel about this song. His voice is perfect, absolutely perfect emotion.
In my opinion, this is the best song of Tom and the Heartbreakers. I miss him every day.
The soul of Tom Petty right here in this song.

All of them, that’s why I like him so much..

Tom loved his fans dearly never faked anything even continued touring with a broken hip and died doing what he loved, now that’s a REBEl!!!

With one foot in the grave and one foot on the pedal, I was born a rebel.
RIP, Mr. Petty
Down in Dixie ... On a SUNDAY mornin .. .Sunday's child is full of GRACE ....forever and forever ..
"One foot on the platform,
One foot on the train.
Going back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain."
Houseof the Rising Sun (trad.)
Southern Accents is a masterpiece and Rebels is just one the many gems that mean so much to me
Such beauty cannot exist in one man. And it does. ❤
I still can’t believe this great man is gone. Everything he had ever written came from his heart and soul. I don’t just listen to his music, I feel it too.
Yes!!! All the way!!! Love, love, love my man Tom Petty!!!!
The best description I’ve ever seen of his music ❤️
Ditto!
Tom was a good Southern boy. God bless Tom and the South.

Tom Petty's music has meant so much to me growing up, but his passing didn't really move me as his music lives on. But this video got to me.
I've always loved 'Rebels', but I'd never heard this live acoustic version. Just amazing! It really shows the song and the message in a new light! God, I miss Tom like crazy!

What great story about Tom coming of age in Gainesville…Touching shoulders with soon to be great musicians..The Pain creates great music!!!
Tom was The man, real rocker and humble human, rebel yell

This and his song, "I won't back down", speaks to we that were raised that way. Sad truth is that not very many are these days..
Tom was the MAN true rebel 😢

Tom is the best
Tom Petty ,fuiste y seguirás siendo un genio inmenso ,te amooooooooooo.
Honey don't walk out, I'm too drunk to follow
You know you won't feel this
way tomorrow
Well, maybe a little rough around the edges
Or inside a little hollow,
I get faced with some things, sometimes
That are so hard to swallow, hey!
(hey hey hey)
I was born a rebel, down in Dixie
(hey hey hey)
On a Sunday morning
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal, I was born a rebel
She picked me up in the mornin', and she paid all my tickets
Then she screamed in the car
She Left me out in the thicket
Well I never would of dreamed
That her heart was so wicked
Yeah but I keep comin' back
Cause it's so hard to kick it, hey, hey, hey
(hey hey hey)
I was born a rebel
down in Dixie
(hey hey hey)
On a Sunday morning
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal, I was born a rebel
Even before my father's father
They called us all rebels
While they burned our cornfields
And left our cities leveled
I can still feel the eyes of those blue-bellied devils
Yeah, when I'm walking round at night
Through the concrete and metal, hey, hey, hey
I was born a rebel, down in Dixie
On a Sunday morning
Yeah with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal, I was born a rebel
gone to soon....i wish time can stop for a moment...
Rip Tommy
Kahn Souphanousinphone, Minh (from King of the Hill) and living in Florida brought me here.
thanks so much for this, been looking for this for a long time now since they removed it from their website
I was born a REBEL, on a Friday morning, hey hey hey
Siempré estaras entre nosotros Tom.
Southern Accents fell far short of its goal of making a big statement. But it left us with Rebels and the title track, which makes it a must have. Two of TP’s best ever songs.
Tom the King
A young Tom Petty reminds me of Tommy Shaw.
Hey hey hey!
My theme song
I was born a rebel down in Dixie on a Wednesday morning
