what makes them a "vortex generator" over just a bunch of fins on your roof is that a real vortex generator has ~15° angle on the outermost fin, and the angle slowly shifts so the innermost fin per side is either 0° or slightly angled negatively to the first so they pull air into two vorteces, actually creating downforce by pulling air from the low pressure zone over the trunk, not just interrupt the air for no reason. but it still looks cool!
The purpose of vortex generators is to interrupt the high speed laminar flow. By just being there, they do that. To truly optimize the impact like to state you would need to do so for he given shape of the object (i.e. roof/window in this case) and analyse the flow characteristics. If you arent racing around a track chasing thousandths of a second off your time, it really doesnt matter much.
Just some advice for the new lens: I assume you are shooting wide open at f/1.4. this obviously creates a really shallow depth of field and makes the camera search for focus a lot because the camera is always moving in your hand. Try setting the aperture to f/2 or maybe even a little higher. This should still give you the nice bokeh effect that you are going for but will reduce the focus searching because the depth of field won't be as shallow. Hope this helps!
Maybe get a DOF calculator for your lens and not use autofocus. Also getting those sequences with one POW with this lens, you might get a better result with sticking your camera to calculated point and using aperture to slightly widen the dof. That way you'd get that bokeh effect and retain a semi descent image over the thing your trying to show.
Dude I genuinely enjoy your content so much. Thank you for putting out such high quality. I’ve never done this before, but just an idea. Could totally flop. But if you would’ve put a strip of painters tape right below where you wanted to place them, and then put tick marks with a marker on the tape before you place them down, I think it would’ve given you a good visual to make sure everything’s even before final placement.

I like the individual vortex generators apposed to the strip. It really doesn't seem like they are offset dramatically at a glance and at different camera angles. Maybe you can get the "secret sauce" sprayed on those and then they would look even more part of the roof.

The most efficient design is going to be very pointy and with sharp edges which is impossible to efficiently mold into a single strip. Without a wing, there's no reason to add vortex generators. Purpose of them is to pull the high speed airflow down the back window and under the wing, otherwise there's a zone of stagnation in front of the wing and the underside of the airfoil doesn't see any airflow - which then the airfoil is only being about half as efficient as it should
The 35 f/1.4 costs like a kidney.. but vlogging at f/.4 is tough for the autofocus.. a prime lens such as that is meant for portraits, not for vlogging. If you use that for photography, product photography, car photography etc it will be awesome but not for videos.. Or at least try it not as wide open as f/1.4 try f/2.5 or something like that. But i think you know it better than me haha.. I looks AMAZING for slow mo videos ahah
I love the idea with the clear break light making it red, my ford focus has the exact same thing, so ya I am going to do that too. Something you might want to check out is a LED 3M light strip, sold for truck tailgates. It does breaks, and signals. I added one to my Ford Focus and it looks sweet, making the clear break light red will be even better. Car overall is black but has a lot of red. I was watching your video because I am adding vortex generators which I painted red.

If you turn up the aperature on your camera the auto focus won’t be so weird because you’ll have a wider range of focus. Just an FYI for a little bit better quality
Dude... that BOKEH is on POINT! Definitely better suited for artistic shots vs running and gunning though. Not a big fan of the vortex generators, they always look so "stuck on". Guess I am old school with my mods. If it doesn't look like it could have come factory like that I usually don't like it. (The fenders do work depending on the car, the EVO pulls it off IMHO).
When you have it on just the tripod throw it in Manuel focus so it stops hunting. Auto focus it so it’s in focus and then put it in Manuel so it just stays in focus when you’re working.

Sooo not sure what lens you were using before this video, BUT from someone who has done a ton of research into lenses and test quite a few. The sigma 18-35 1.8 art lens is super good with focus on a canon and the quality is incredible! Just a recommendation! Love the cars look though!

to make em even i think you would have had to lay em out straight on grid paper, tape em together and put it on as kind of one piece. What im talking about is the same way that they sell emblems so you can put the words on straight.
Evan if you ever decide to redo this, take your heat gun and bend the bases of the vortex generators to get a curve to match the roofline. really easy Also, that Evo is SUPER mean! love the widebody
F/1.4 on that lens might be good for pictures, but the continuous auto focus isn’t very good. Definitely go back to something with better AF and use a smaller aperture
If anything. Just because you have f/1.4. Don’t use it in video. It’s such a small focus plain. Use at least f4. Sure it won’t give you that fine depth of field. But you won’t be hunting for focus as much. 1.4 is great for photos, astrophotography, or lens dependent a nice bokeh. But not so much for video. Change your f-stop. If you need more light, check shutter speed. But don’t adjust too low. Should be generally double your shooting mode. Eg 1080/60. 1/120th ss. 1080/30. 1/60 ss. Easiest step is ISO, but image quality will purely be dependant on camera when you start bumpin that up.
You could also adjust your motor speed to slow, or normal. Not fast so check that as well 👌 so it won’t continuously hunt so quickly. You could also look at what Focus Area you are using.
In all honesty, the new lens gave me a headache and I couldn't watch anymore of the video. The vortex generator idea is good as an idea but it doesn't look good.
How much did you pay for the lens of been thinking about going to car shows and taking picture of sick cars and that lens is deffenitly good with pictures.
Just bump to like f4 on your camera and you should be good because it gives you a greater depth of field which could help with the autofocusing problems.
That car would pop more if pearl white black splitters carbon hood and phat carbon wing.maybe add an nx express incooler sprayer to compensate for that tx heat.

Tanner Young the purpose can also be used to disrupt the air so it hangs tighter to the trunk to create downforce, but he thinks its just for looks

You should have pulled the dip off where you put them on so when you take the dip off you wouldn’t have to re install them
The secret sauce will probably stay with whatever other color he goes with
I had to laugh so bad when you said "Look at this sick ass design we just did."
Also the minimum focus distance may be a bit different than you are used too which could cause the AF problem.
I feel like a big wing for the Evo is coming and I can't wait for it
Finally a decent lens, just use it when you need to. I wouldn't necessarily say for vlogging.
I wouldn't use this lens for normal vlogs, just because there is bokeh doesn't mean its better. I'd stick to a wide angle with good autofocus.

lens is fine but maybe you should close up the aperture so it isn’t cranked to 1.4 the whole time. Would fix some of the focus issues.

You know that they only generate a vortex if they are slightly angled? You put them straight on so you will have no effect.

Just a tip I think would help next time is put a strip of painters tape and mark your spacing.
And not sure if the fins aren't flush on the roof if they will be more drag/ turbulence then vortex
