Way to many people misinterpret the old testament. It is God alone who decides who will live or die.
Jesus lived by the old testament and never changed anything that it informed us about but only delivered a message of mans changing of its meaning and the rituals that were an abomination to the father.
What do you think "turn the other cheek" means? How about "love thy enemy"?
    Mathew 6 14-15
For if you forgive men their trespasses, I your heavenly father will also forgive you: but if you do not forgive men their trespasses neither will the father forgive your trespasses.
So if you forgive someone and then kill them how have you walked in Jesus footsteps? What chance gave you given a fellow sinner to repent? Are we the judges? Were does it say that in the bible?

Why are you going back to the Old Testament? Jesus brought a new Covent and was clear about retributive acts. Jesus support for the death penalty is recorded nowhere! What is quite clearly recorded is his abhorrence for acts of retribution.
Most of the biblical writing supporting the death penalty comes from the Old Testament. Should we not be focusing primarily on the New Testament and Jesus’ unwavering love and compassion and forgiveness?
After all as I understand it, God is the only judge and only God can take life (often an argument used against abortion). Jesus came down to to give us a new covenant changing our relationship to the Old Testament.
‘Let him who is without sin cast the first stone’ is a clear indication that Jesus did not support the death penalty in a time and place in the world which supported it?
Most of the laws in the Old Testament, we as Christians don’t adhere to so why do so many Christians go back to the Old Testament to support the death penalty?
Even going back to the Old Testament the commandment ‘thou shalt not kill’ is one of the clearest. It does not make reference to innocents or criminals. It does not make exceptions it simply and clearly states, don’t kill!
This view is again referenced in Matthew 5:21-22 where he goes on to add ‘anyone who is angry with a brother or a sister will be subject to judgement’. I don’t see how support for the death penalty is honouring this New Testament teaching?
I’m not saying murderers shouldn’t be severely punished but using murder itself as a punishment for murder goes against another clear point made further on in the gospel of Matthew which starts; ‘ you have heard it was said eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth…’
Here it is made clear that the retributive and violent conduct in the Old Testament is not acceptable anymore. Its saying there is a new covenant brought by Jesus. One which doesn’t promote violence and killing.
These are the reasons I am unable to make sense of the Christian argument for the death penalty? Jesus clearly disagreed with the retributive violence in the Old Testament and sought to change it.
As Christians we are instructed to follow his teaching before all else! I don’t feel we can ignore New Testament teaching and Jesus own words and actions to pick and choose between what Jesus said and what is in the Old Testament because of our own views on the death penalty. Jesus was clear in his actions and teachings on this. Who are we to pick and choose which parts of his message we listen to and don’t?

Punishment is actually not a very effective teacher! It may teach people not to do something, but at a great cause to their spiritual progress and ability to Love themselves; to Love life and to Love others, which is the ultimate lesson.
People who receive "punishment," are full of shame or anger and resentment; and this is the hell people must learn to release themselves.
Punishment leads to further sinful entrenchment and misery, it's ultimately counterproductive to spiritual progress.
Punishment is Satan's way to remedy crimes and mistakes, and people have yet to recognize its ineffectiveness.
Punishment perpetuates pain and negativity, and does not heal; all crimes, mistakes and suffering are caused by Satan.
So the solution is not to entrench people further into their sin by "punishing" them, but to give them what might help them see that they are not sinners.
Love is what heals and brings people out of sin, and nothing else.
Love, acceptance, kindness, compassion and attention are the balms that heal.

We christians are not to pay evil with evil. We are to forgive, we are to pray (even for our enemies). We are to be merciful.

Killing the killer is killing on your part. Killing the killer is still murder.

    • @lillilooc
      @lillilooc ปีที่แล้ว +4

In the Hebrew the word for "killing" and "murder" are entirely different. There is in fact even an outline for what the Hebrews called "manslaughter" and soldiers were actually Instructed to kill under God's Word. The Caininites for example.
There is a reason for it.
We are not to go out killing people vigilante style or for revenge. But to eliminate EVIL people that make it known they are evil and would HAPPILY do it again!
A person who kills someone drunk driving is an irresponsible awful person if we judge them in that event. And there should be consequences. However this is a person that can also feel remorse and wants to spend the rest of their lives making up for it. God is judge yes. But He has given us HIS holy judgements to execute, it's not our saying but HIS.
An accidental killing or for self defense is one thing (a man that won't defend his family is worse than a heathen it states in the old testament)
But what about someone like John Wayne Gacy. He literally said he ENJOYS it and would DO IT AGAIN if released. Torture and murder is his pleasure. God says "send them to me for JUDGEMENT (again HIS NOT OURS) AND quite frankly if we did, as God said "these things will cease to happen among you"
If you believe God is all powerful and loving and fair, then you must agree that His discernment is in tact and wouldn't punish someone who say, was a police officer and had to shoot a man down before that man continues a KILLING SPREE vs. a man who drives around looking for kids to rape and kill. You REALLY can't see the difference between these two examples?
Then I guess it's a good thing He gave us HIS judgements.
When Christians aren't busy bleeding their hearts out for psychopathic murderers, they seem busy judging people to hell. Funny how they can take the place of God as judge for an eternal soul (we have NO BUSINESS judging someone's final destination) but they won't budge on obeying His earthly judgements.
