Back in 1971 I travelled from my home in England a bit. You could hitch hike back then as well. I ended up in Barcelona and a Canadian girl I met (We were 21) from the next pension and I got jobs in a bar in the slums near the dock. We were chary about the work as most bar girls down there were also whores. But were well protected by our formidable boss.
I later discovered that these slums were the "picturesque" Gothic quarter as advertised on a brochure in the American Express office.
As an art student I had learnt about Gaudi but was not prepared for the amazing shock of seeing his beautiful curved buildings juxtaposed with standard rectangular ones. Just there as part of the city's architecture.
I now live in Andalucia where my son and his family emigrated to and love it. The architecture here is, if course, very different in style from that further north.

Cathedral is the central church where the bishop seat is and there is usually only one and Catedral de Barcelona is the only one in the city.
Sagrada Familia is a basilica. When visiting the Catedral de Barcelona I recommend going up to the roof. The "Samsung billboard" just temporary and covers the scaffold (so they can earn a bit to help with maintenance).

Spain is quite different, north, Southwest, east or west. Galicia or Asturias have little in common with Andalucía or Extremadura. There are no flamenco or bullfights in the north (it's not our culture) Cider is the drink in Asturias, wine is not as common. Cataluña is not Spain for many Catalans. .

@@angelleon7528 As you actually know I wasn’t speaking about that. Not only do I adore flamenco music but also I know quite well (professionally) several flamenco styles (“palos”). But flamenco music doesn’t belong to the Gaudí style. That’s why I laugh at that senseless combination.
There are great flamenco artists in Catalonia, but also great jazz, rock and classical artists !
Data ? New York is full of “latinos”, Buenos Aires is full of italians (“tanos”), Catalan language is closely related to the French Occitan language, the “rumba catalana” was also nicely boosted by the argentinean Gato Pérez and Barça FC was founded by a Swiss man, and Gaudí was put to jail for speaking in Catalan to a Spanish civil guard, and, and, and…………
The world is what it is and so is Catalonia. I love education and don’t want to say what Moldova, Kosovo or Scotland are, for example. It’s up to them, respectively.

What a blessing that the Instagram-youtuber tourists limit their "enlightening" visiting experience to the city of Barcelona, that's why a majority of Barcelonians we live outside the city 😁The best well-kept secret is that the city is just for working and maybe going out for dinner, but the authentic paradise lies 20 km away from the noisy and crowded city, it's where the best beaches (Costa Brava), woods (Montseny), villages, ski slopes (Pyrenees) are.
Another thing is that good red wine in Barcelona is not "local", it comes from Ribera del Duero or Rioja regions, some 600 Km North-West.
Anyway, nice video😉Hope you enjoy the city!

      @neiss2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@NuriaSaladrigasLarroy Dear Núria, agree 100% when it comes to Cava. I'm not a particular fan of sparkling wines but the only one I truly enjoy (mostly as an appetizer before lunch or dinner) is a Cava. To me, a good brut nature Cava beats any Boellinger, Roederer or any other expensive Champagne that you may throw at.
When it comes to red wine, sorry but no 😛 I've had many (good and expensive) Costers del Segre, Montsants and whatnot, and they cannot compete with a Ribera, Rioja, or even Toro. And I'm not saying that Catalonia hasn't any good wines, there certainly are but on the same price level, they cannot compete with any of those from the rest of Spain.
      Cheers from Aella 🍷

Barcelona is overhyped. Try Zaragoza, Burgos, Bilbao, San Sebastian, Salamanca, Cuenca, Santander. You're just regurgitating the same story so many others have done. Too much exuberance and superlatives. Go find the real Spain. The largest cathedral in Spain is in Sevilla. Do some homework before you opine. I would advise you that just outside Madrid and Barcelona is a place called Spain, now go find it. Put a town called Riglos, Aragon on your itinerary.

      @@Meghanandmatt Try this:
For example, France has a bilateral agreement that allows U.S. citizens to stay an additional 90 days beyond the Schengen limit. You can enter from any Schengen country, stay 90 days in France, and then fly home. But the catch is you have to go home - you can’t go elsewhere. You have to leave Europe so you can’t use your time in France as a sneaky way to reset your Schengen clock.
Now, the France/U.S. rule is tricky. It’s based on a post-World War II agreement that was never canceled. Multiple French consulates told me yes, they thought this law existed but couldn’t tell me where to find it. A few visa services told me I was crazy. One consulate told me it was possible but only with a long-term visa.
BUT, after many calls, the US, Canada, and UK French embassies told me that yes, this law does exist and that yes, this is still valid. Then they referenced me to the French national archives.
