A Brief History of Thomas Sankara

  • This is the story of Thomas Sankara, a proponent of Pan-Africanism and a heroic leader from Burkina Faso, who challenged the conventional ways of doing things, leaving a lasting impression on his countrymen during his three and a half years in office.
Often called the African Che Guevara, Sankara was a visionary who changed the name of his homeland from its colonial label Upper Volta to Burkina Faso, the Land of the Upright.
As the president of Burkina Faso, one of the poorest countries in Africa, he sought to change the lives of the Burkinabe for good.

let me add more to his accomplishments:
1- He added over 300km of railroad lines without foreign aid.
2- He tooo over 600 orphans off the streets and send them on scholarship to cuba to learn engineering and technical education to return and develop their nation.

Him and Ché! I'm sure there are plenty of others. Potential leaders who are willing sacrifice everything and lay their life down in the pursuit of human rights. People willing to live like the mythical Jesus Christ. Some pacifists, some willing to kill for what's right like Ché. These people are either murdered, demonized through propaganda and false accusations and what not or just never getting the opportunity or being conspired against. And we'll never know their names' or the great ideas they had and the sacrifices they were willing to make. The idea that power corrupts absolutely, human nature is greedy and what not I think is all bullshit. There's a lot of people like that or have been brainwashed into becoming that. But lots of people aren't. History is full of great people like Sankara but we just don't learn about them for many reasons.

He reduced his own salary, cut back on Mercedes and used Pugeuot, and owned very few things except a refrigerator and some guitars. That is impressive and unheard of for any leader of any country. Doesn't "absolute power corrupt absolutely?" We always hear that. Yet we NEVER hear of this man, as if his name has been blotted out of history by the Imperialist powers. The elites don't want this example to be known. Thomas Sankara is a hero and should be remembered and celebrated the world over. He offers the world hope that is so much lacking today.
