I recommend you guys to watch the movie Hush starring Theo (Kate Siegel). She is a very good actress, especially in this type of movies her acting is so good. By the way the movie is not horror it's more of a thriller.
The Nell jumpscare is so good. Not just because there's literally zero indication that it's about to happen, but because it makes sense for Nell's character and in the context of the scene.
This, most jump scares feel forced or make no sense but this fits with what's going on. We also aren't waiting around for it with silence or creepy music, they are actually having a conversation that turns into a fight so like Blake mentioned your paying attention to what's being said not knowing it's gonna happen.
That jumpscare is iconic. And what I love is that while it scares the shit out of you in the moment, it’s actually wholesome in hindsight. It’s Nell trying to stop her siblings from fighting. But for me, the most terrifying moment of the episode and the entire show is “I never build you kids a tree house”. It sends chills down my spine every time I hear it. It’s a more subtle type of horror than stuff jumping out at you, but I find it very effective. The house didn’t just fuck with the character’s minds, it did so with us as well. Because we’ve seen the tree house too.
Blake's never getting in a car ever again. Fun fact they didn't tell the actresses who play Theo and Shirley about the jump scare, so that's their genuine reactions as well.
Nell, stopping the sisters arguing in the car is just like the time in the funeral home, when the family was yelling and Nell used the falling of the casket to end that as well, is important and sad. I never come out of that dialogue by Theo without tearing up it’s so damn good.
Fun Fact: The jump scare in that car scene was real. Kate Siegel (Theo) and Elizabeth Reaser (Shriley) had no idea when Victoria Pedretti (Nell) was going to pop out during their dialogue. She chose that moment to do it so their screams of terror are legitimate.
My favorite scene of the series is Steve and Hugh talking in the car. Everyone shits on Steve all season but when you get to this episode, you’re finally given a glimpse into his perspective. He thinks his dad killed (or at least assaulted) his mom. He’s not perfect but I’m a Steve apologist. Also, Hugh’s “I never built you kids a treehouse” gives me goosebumps every time.
Nell's scream in the car was her own personal ghostly way to say *BOTH SHUT THE FUCK UP* And this is a before and after moment in Blake's life for sure, lol. Loved this one
I appreciate the one on one reactions to the jump scare. I literally threw my phone across the room the first time I saw it 🤣🤣 Glad you survived Blake ❤️
I don't normally jump scare easily but when I watched this episode originally I did. Comes out of nowhere! The banging at Shirley's house recreated the scene earlier when the girls were kids and Theo comes into Shirley's room accusing her of banging on the wall and then banging just starts everywhere.
I noticed Igli is a bit emotional when Theo was explaining to Shirley after the jumpscare. I also noticed him in the previous episode when a young Nell was disappeared during the stormy night and little luke was glad that they finally saw her. And nell kept saying “i’m right and no one is looking..”.
The wait from the beginning for THE jump scare was so worth it. When you get a chance after the last episode, treat yourself to watching the compilation videos of all of the reaction channels, for the 'Episode 8 jump scare'. I know that the personal experience was traumatic, but I do need to give credit to Blake for keeping greater composure than many other Reactors to that moment. Seriously, you all did very, very well by yourselves. Nary a schoolgirl in the pack. Raggedy on!
I felt the energy and the knowing smiles all throughout the last few comment sections, adore the way I didn’t see a single comment saying they can’t wait for ep8. We all just patiently sat and waited. I love this community 🥰
you guys gotta understand it hasn't even been a full 24 hours since Shirley walked in on Theo and her husband, it's still a fresh wound so i don't really blame her for not being ready to hear anybody out on top of everything else going on. And i certainly don't think her being a little annoying makes her more hate-able than mister "i'm gonna lie to my wife for years and years and tell her i want kids then put her through fertility treatment and let her think that maybe it's her fault it's not happening"
It’s so interesting to find more out about the Hills, and the way it’s indirectly revealed. Pay attention because it’s very cool to see the overall story.
I’ve been waiting for this one since you guys started the show! Awesome reaction! Fun fact it’s said that Nell’s actress jumped in before she was supposed to so their surprise is genuine!
I think we’re showing our true colors here, but that jump scare was epic. But I also loved Theo’s monologue. And Hugh’s analogy still gives me chills- you see the witness marks, but you don’t know how to read them. Wow- great episode!
I’m in the minority I love them all but Steve for sure bottom of the barrel then Shirley, I see why they both are the way they are so I get it on one hand but that “ the wrong parent line “ set his place for me !
@@drockherb2073 yeah I didn’t want steve to die or anything and I can get where he’s coming from but he annoys the hell out of me. The vasectomy is what sealed the deal for me.
I never even disliked her on my first viewing of the show, so it shocked the hell out of me to learn that so many people actually HATE her (i also wonder how many people would hate her less if she wasn't angry with Theo, who is almost everyone's favourite character)
@@KdeeBUBBLES444 I think her treatment of Theo has a lot to do with it. Also a bit of misogyny whether anyone wants to admit it or not. A lot of ppl aren’t fond of women who aren’t open and sweet. Shirley isn’t cool like Theo or broken like Nell.
Blake never disappoint, I was genuinely concern for a moment he may shock into a catatonic state. 😂 Corey, Cojo and Igli reaction were just as enjoyable. Best moment of reaction yet for a horror show.
I am sending good vibes to Blake and his heart, which no doubt has given out after this episode and may never recover 😂😂 Love this episode and your reactions, stoked to see this one! ❤
Also, this episode is the one where it just solidifies my hatred for Steve. He should have told her, and he let her do all of that to her body. Awful 😡
Weirdly, the lack of jump scares from previous episodes made me feel comfortable enough to watch this show all the way through at night. It was like 2am when this episode came around, and I screamed so loudly I thought I’d woken my neighbors. We were all Blake, when we watched this episode the first time. Congrats on making it through :)
The first episodes I watched at night because I like my scares when it's dark out. When I got to this episode I thought, What the hell, might as well watch it in the middle of the afternoon, because it's really good, but not scary. And then I jumped 10 feet in the air when she popped out.
While the jump scare is one of the best there is (speaking as someone who hates jumpscares) the real highlight of this episode to me is Theo's speech. It's so, so good, and cements Kate Siegel is my favourite actor in these shows. She commits, and does a great job in doing so.
Oh boy, was waiting for this one! 😂 Idk what shook me more this episode: THAT scene or the 🚫🌳 🏠 revelation 🤯 Can’t wait til you guys check out the rest!
Ya’ll talking about Blake’s reaction and I’m over here thinking “is Corey okay???” Full body convulsions. Apologies for laughing 😆 Bravo on the editing, sir
Poor Blake. That car Nell jump scary scene was brutal. Love that you showed the scene reaction then showed a close up of Cojo, Corey, Igli, and Blake's reactions.
Sorry Blake, but I was definitely watching this video to see if you survived. I'm glad you did! I'm telling you all, this show is so good. It's equal parts haunting and heartbreaking. I'm glad Blake has stuck with it.
I think people underestimate how much can effed up your life the fear of having mental illness. I do understand where Steve comes from because I'm not religious and I always try to be as logical as possible and also, unfortunately, 4 members of my family (grandparents and great-grandparents) had mental illness. Nell and Luke never questioned what they saw, Steve does constantly, feeling he's losing his mind and trying to deny it simultaneously. Tbh, that sounds like hell to me. Feeling like that will happen to you and all your family and you can't stop it. And also feeling that her mother was left behind with no help. It's more than understandable, at least for me. He's not a likeable character but I do understand where he's coming from.
That was phenomenal! The car jump-scare in particular! This is one of those series where I feel like each episode progressively gets better. Keep em comin boys!
That was the jump scare I was talking about. This show is so good when it comes to monologs too. I'm so glad you broke down everyone's reaction take. Blake's was the best. Throw me a shovel cause I'm digging it.
The actresses had no idea when she was going to pop in either! The scene is expertly crafted to pull you into the overlapping dialogue and set you up for the jump scare.
The moment we've all been waiting for lmao the best thing about that jumpscare for me is the fact that the actors themselves (playing Theo and Shirley) were jumpscared by Victoria (Nell) because she decided to do it a few moments earlier than what was rehearsed/scripted.

I don't know if this has been said, but I am going to since Cojo keeps mentioning wanting to read the book: The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson from which this series was inspired is a very good book. Just an FYI for anyone who does decide to read the book. They aren't the same story, though you can see where one influenced the other. Both are excellent for similar, but different reasons.
I love this show! Welcome to the greatest jump scare of the millennium so far... I've watched this series about 3 times now and although it doesn't work the same, I still remember the first time. I forgot about the jump scare 😂😂 I’m at my infusion watching on Bluetooth and I jumped and threw my phone and let out a “ahhhhhh I forgot that happens” 😂 my poor dad was so confused
I knew the jump scare would hit Blake hard and you could practically see his soul leaving his body, but Cody's turned out to be far more entertaining. That was a whole body reaction! The scene at Shirley's with all the knocking is a call back to the scene when they were kids with the knocking on the walls in episode 2.
I'm sure we were all looking forward to Blake's reaction to the scare... but also, I thought it was adorable how when Steve said it had been a week since his last time and Leigh said it was two weeks Blake thought he was cheating instead of the obvious other reason 😂
Omg, the editing of the jump scare scene is awesome! Made my day! 😆Like many others i've been waiting for this since episode 1 lol Also Kate Siegels performance and monologue after that scene is insane. This show is so good! I love how Mike Flanagan keeps drawing parallels to other episodes. Like the knocking scene: Shirl and Theo experienced the same thing as children, the banging on the walls. So many little details. Can't wait for the next episode/reaction.
That was insane really appreciated the individual reactions too that was great. Would love you guys to react to the movie identity for some more cracking jumpscares but an awesome story
