    Pro tip : enervation spellstrike. It's easy to use a 4th level scroll per combat each fight, and it inflict the drained condition which inflict decent damage regardless of level.

    Eccellent video, I'm loving my Laughing Shadow Magus and yeah, huge damage, great action economy and I'm not repeating the same actions each turn as I initially feared.

    Good to see the new video. Been missing them. True strike with lower level slots seems like a good option before a spellstrike as well.

    I've been obsessed with the Magus over the past few days. I was so excited when i saw this in my sub box haha.

    i’m playing a laughing shadow magus in a campaign that’s been going for a while but i just joined-
    last session, my character was dueling another player character and on round 2 she made her first attack with a spell strike, crit, and did 104 damage, instantly knocking the other player to 0 HP.
    it was fun!

    I've been playing a Span magus and Tanglefoot is really good when you can deliver it at sniper range.
    The one thing I don't think you really mentioned is that you get to use spell attack rolls with weapon attack accuracy, which means you'll be both landing hits and getting those potent crit effects more often than a caster would.
    Force Fang (level 2 feat) is also an excellent burst damage option because it gives you straight damage with no MAP or save and also recharges your spellstrike in one action.

    Excellent Video! Would have really helped when I was creating my Magus^^
    Playing my Twisting Staff Magus. I am thorougly enjoying him. Wanted to point out that expansive Spellstrike is even better if you have reach since you get way more flexibility with how you place your cones/lines. (As origin select any square adjecent to the target you hit!)
    Also it is a slight DPR decrease but Spellstriking every second round with True Strike and then recharging and doing other stuff the next round makes him strategic as hell!

    Was this video before the psychic class came out? Because imaginary weapon is crazy with this class. Also, with the new rules in the remaster, it's ALOT easier to manage focus spells. It's so much harder to deplete a magus with the new rules on the refocus activity. I rarely use spell slots to spellstrike with because of how good the psychic focus spells are.

    I keep forgetting the Magus an use Spellstrike with non-magus/arcane spells. With a dedication feat this can easily make those lower level non heightened spells worth having.

    I have a friend that is confused about expansive spell strike. Ehat happens if you miss the attack?

    • @LegendaryCMD
      @LegendaryCMD  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that one is tricky. I THINK it works like this, but ultimately your GM makes the call.
      1. If you critically miss on the strike nothing happens with the strike or the spell because it says, "If your Strike critically fails, the spell is lost with no effect."
      2. If you miss with your strike you deal no damage from the strike but the spell goes off, saving throws are made and spell damage is dealt accordingly. This is because it says, "Creatures use their normal defenses against the spell, such as saving throws." This means that the result of the spell is no longer determined by the result of the strike as is the case with typical spellstrikes, ie."Your spell is coupled with your attack, using your attack roll result to determine the effects of both the Strike and the spell."
      3.If you hit you deal the strike damage to your target and saving throws are made and spell damage is dealt.
      4. If you critically hit you deal critical strike damage to your target and the spell goes off and saving throws are made and spell damage is dealt according to those saves.

    Well, twisting tree does not need fused staff as they already use a staff as a weapon. Just started to play one, hope it works out well

    What action do you use to recharge? I'm new to the game and a little confused. The vid says repeatedly recharge then spellstrike. Is there a single action called recharge that has the concentrate trait in it or do you just choose a random single action with said trait or am I completely wrong on both counts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Great vid by the way.

    • @LegendaryCMD
      @LegendaryCMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hey, no problem at all. I would say it is a specific action to recharge the Spellstrike although it isn't written out like other actions. Instead of being an action block, (like the way Spellstrike is written for example), it is written in text form, which is odd. It says:
      "After you use Spellstrike, you can't do so again until you recharge your Spellstrike as a single action, which has the concentrate trait. You also recharge your Spellstrike when you cast a conflux spell that takes at least 1 action to cast; casting a focus spell of another type doesn't recharge your Spellstrike."
      To me that reads like there is a specific action just for the Magus. It is one action and has the concentrate trait. Once you spend this single action you then have the Spellstrike "loaded up" and ready to go and can then Spellstrike at any point (with the two actions required for the Spellstrike of course).
      Hope that helps!! Cheers!!

    Question: on my First turn if i am not striding, can i use spellstrike first, or i have to "recharge" first then use spellstrike?

    • @LegendaryCMD
      @LegendaryCMD  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as I understand it, spellstrike is charged up and ready to go when you start combat, so you can use it right away

    I don't see how Expansive Spellstrike would require your target to save against your Class DC. Care to explain how that would be the case?

    • @sethb3090
      @sethb3090 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't. He's just pointing out that a magus's key ability (and therefore class DC) is a physical stat, not their spellcasting stat, which means you'll likely have a subpar spellcasting stat compared to a full caster and your expansive spellstrikes won't be on par with your regular ones.

    Naughty question: What about spellstrike (or eldritch shot) with a spell that has both an attack roll and a save?

    • @oiman5733
      @oiman5733 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is "roll a weapon strike to hit and enemy will have to save against the spell"

    • @nargileh1
      @nargileh1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oiman5733 The spell is the subordinate action to Eldritch Shot. And eldritch shot says how to determine the result of the spell, which supercedes the subordinate method of determining the result.

    I feel that they made the Magus over complicated in P2e.Honestly its really not that much fun. All they really needed to do is allow them Spellstrike and give them their own spell list (pulled form existing spells, no need to reinvent the wheel) and a restricted number of spell slots but more than they have now. Most players, like the vast majority of players, are casual RPG'ers. They want to play some sort of spell blade but don't want a graduate class to learn how to play it. No need to have all these subtle ways to max their number of Spellstrike attacks and clever ways to get more spells (requiring you to know 2 classes now and the Archetype rules). The hard core gamers that know P2e inside and out, sure but the majority of players, not so much.

    • @liamcage7208
      @liamcage7208 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @chad hale I really like P2e, I feel it is far superior to any of the others out there. The modularity and variant rule provide endless possibilities. I just feel, as stated above, that the Magus could have been made simpler while retaining its uniqueness and fun.
