I agree. Best not to tell anyone. But beyond that, also make it so that if they did find out who you are, the risk vs reward is not high enough for them to even attempt anything. I think arming yourself is a must for unorganized robberies by an amateur, if you’re able to. But organized robberies wouldn’t be interested in 12 ounces of gold, it’s just not enough for the risk. I think splitting up your gold and keeping it in multiple safe and secure locations is surely the way to go.

The crane had struck "gold" but it turned out to be only"fools gold". A bunch of us local kids spent one summer diving, recovering and hoarding fools gold nuggets in big tin coffee cans. I think one of the best things you can do is get a monitored home security system. Mine is $50 a month and the equipment came free. Someone kicks in your door and sets it off, there is only so much time they can spend on your house before the police show up not to mention the neighborhood hearing the alarm screaming. Couple that with a good hidden spot for the gold and you should be ok. If I’m home though me and Mr. MK-25 will handle the rest….. I was a lead stacker long before PM’s 🙃

I'd be careful with that self insurance. We lost everything in the Ca wildfires, home, classic cars, guns, 35000 rounds ammo, 60's guitar collection, artwork, my workshop to make a living with every tool known to man. Total loss 3 million and everything was paid for, no payments. We had just bought insurance but the broker made some mistakes on the policy. We now, at 70 years old live in a 300 sq ft apartment in a 20 unit complex with a mattress on the floor and a couple of chairs and a table found curbside for $2,000 per month.

I am in my mid-50s and keep all my gold at home. I have never been robbed. I have four siblings, none of them have ever been robbed. My parents are in their 80s and their home has never been broken into. Out of my half dozen or so close friends, none have ever been robbed. Perhaps we are all just lucky, or perhaps people are lying to me, but none of my co-workers has ever been robbed, either.
Robbery is not that common. Yes, it's good to be cautious (same reason I wear a seatbelt every day), which is why I have 3 safes hidden in my home. If a Hollywood gunpoint robbery scenario happens, I'm probably not gonna go Die Hard on the assailants in some dramatic shootout. I will, however, lead them to one of the thinly populated safes, give them what little I have there, and keep the knowledge of the two full safes tucked safely within my small but sturdy brain.
Point of this all is that you're probably safe keeping your gold at home if you live in most parts of the US or Canada or Western Europe or Australia/NZ. People go a little nutty with SHTF scenarios. My grandfather's generation was obsessed with such scenarios, and they (thankfully) never came to pass. My grandfather was born in 1902.

Fed investigations on bank accounts including safety box ownership are target specific, we were told. It would not be as easy to use a blanket subpoena to confiscate the entire safety deposit boxes of an entire bank branch, the big banks would just not allow it and would not give it up that easily. When the SHTF, good luck walking into a grocery store with an $1800 coin and expecting them to take it and give you change. And your gold may be useless when times really get tough and they are. They may protect spending value over paper currency due to the weakness and eradication of the paper dollar but you have to have somewhere that will accept it when these times get tough. Same thing with a $25 silver coin. But with your gold, you need lower weight values to make it usable and that is probably not what you purchased it for to begin with but in the direction we are headed, you are most likely going to need it for that.

What leads you to believe that insurance companies will pay anyone. Look at all these natural disasters they never paid people for. Then if gold goes up are they going to make up the difference. Then what are they going to pay you with. Because dollars probably be worthless. Hints the reason for metals.
The more you pay for storage and insurance to protect is a net loss over the lifetime of these monthly payments the whole reason people invest in metals is because they don't trust the system but then you trust the same system to protect your investment. I do not understand.

I definitely need to ramp up security. But no matter what I feel is best for security I always look at the down side and get a bit spooked . It is spread out in a few places but that’s more for if one gets stolen hopefully the others are in tacked .
Big safe with a nice fire rating is nice but fighting wild land fires for 6 years and seeing thousands of burned houses I’ve yet to ever see a safe in tacked usually the only thing that don’t burn down is a porcelain tub or the brick fire place .
I guess I haven’t put that much thought into it and maybe that should be a New stackers first priority before starting to save in gold or silver . Thanks for making me think 💭 now my mind is going a million miles a minute.
Is any one option for security 100% safe ? I’m guessing no !

In a SHTF scenario, food and other supplies are going to be as valuable as Gold or Silver. Most people won't risk death over a can of beans, unless they are starving. I live in a really nice area, surrounded by desert, with lots of water, but we are too close to large urban center, less than a 60 minutes by car, so the bad folks can get here with a little effort.
Physical security is great, but it is simply a delay, as with enough time and resources, anything can be located and broken into. My late father had a small old safe, which he forgot to tell anyone the combination to. A professional locksmith took 5 minutes to open it!!!
Firearms and body armor, plus enhanced physical security of your home are essential to defend against a home invasion or burglary, I like and use off-site, non-bank storage and although it does add cost, it will secure your assets safely, provided the government doesn't try and steal your stuff as in what they did in 1933.
