  • Hop into the back seat of one of the last US Air Force F-4 Phantoms with Elvis and watch as WAM pilots the legendary fighter through several flybys. The 2016 Aviation Nation airshow at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas was the final airshow appearance of the F-4 before its retirement from US military service.
    Thank you to WAM and Elvis for their help with this video!

    I worked on the radios in the F-4D back in 69-70 in Thailand. Many a time I watched one return from a mission and wondered how it made it back. Those things were like tanks with wings. Lots of fond memories of that bird.

    Anyone else from DCS here mooning over F-4 footage wherever they can find on youtube in anticipation for the F-4 release?

    I'm just glad I got to see them for as long as I did. They were flying before I was born, I got to see them when I was active duty and got to see them at air shows the final 2 years the USAF still flew them. Such an iconic plane, it's sad to know that someday, you won't even know what it was like to have seen them in the air.

    My favorite plane growing up in Dayton Ohio. Was lucky enough to see several daily for years, as we were on the flight path for landings at Wright Patterson AFB.

    I used to watch dozens and dozens of these at Clark AFB, years ago. It was still a queen of the skies back then despite the newer and better jets then online. Couple times we'd go watch them at Crow Valley doing target practice. Good times. VERY good times! My wife, kids and I cried like babies when we departed PCS. 8 months later it was suddenly all over for the US of A over there. Subic too. Man, we'd go back to those times in a single heart beat if ever given the chance. Sigh.

      I know what you mean. I was stationed at Clark from Jan 67 to July 68 Watched the Phantoms coming back from sorties in Nam. Loved to watch them take of and stand them on their tail and go straight up. Nothing beats the Phantom.

    I love these aircraft, but I hate seeing them at airshows. They parade them like dinosaurs......slow boring passes by the crowd maybe followed by a few touch and go's. These planes deserve better...I want to see them doing high speed passes, min. Radius turns, max climbs, aileron rolls...etc. These are great and powerful planes, and this generation needs to see the phantom for what it is.

      In the event the pilot is unable to eject that's a selector switch the WSO can set to eject the pilot after he fires his seat.

      If you meant the one to the far right directly under the middle window, that's the emergency canopy jettison.

    • @paceflight
      @paceflight 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow....that really caught my attention! It's called the command selector valve. It's position determines who goes out when you pull ejection handle. In the horizontal position if the WSO pulls ejection handle the pilot is going out too, no choice! We normally flew with the handle in vertical position....If WSO pulls handle only he goes, pilot must pull his own handle. Of course it's usually pilots decision to eject so they're both on it! It's something that's always verified and briefed.

      @@nikelinq2899 not true. No fighter jet can beat the laws of physics. Sure newer ones might have faster speeds and better agility but laws stay the same regardless of what aircraft you’re using

      @@dollarchange2917I never said any fighter could beat the laws of physics. Some of the newer fighters are slower. 90% of aerial combat is BVR so it depends on stealth and radar technology. In a BVR engagement the raptor could again take out a squadron of phantoms without even getting seen on the radar. In an ACM engagement, not the same story. The phantoms would probably kill the raptor in ACM engagement due to the sheer number of them. How much ace combat have you been playing?
