I show other places that evoke nostalgic memories!😃
I enjoy going to check out Kahala Mall too. The Popcorn smell always gets me.
Kahala Mall my favorite in all of Hawaii…the smell of popcorn, the carpet, the happy vibe, the cool shops 🥰
😀😀😀
I've been to Hilltop, Sun Valley, Stoneridge, and the Asian mall called Pacific East Mall. Born and raised in Honolulu and have been up in this area for over 40 years now. I liked how you made a connection with a realator from the SFBA. Many people with connections to Hawaii and the SFBA. Two authors come to mind, Toby Neal and Ty Hutchinson that also have ties to both areas. Mahalo for this Kahala Mall video. Brought back a lot of memories.
Nice! Sunvalley mall brings back childhood memories, and my family still goes to Pacific East Mall (for Ranch 99 and a particular restaurant). Yes, there are many Bay Area and Hawaii connections. Perhaps that's something I can explore more of. Glad you enjoyed this video!
My favorite local mall on Oahu. Always filled with shoppers, local kids, families and seniors. So nice they have tables and chairs everywhere where people can sit, talk or eat. Unlike malls on the mainland where they don't promote people gathering so they're always empty.
Yes, it’s a good gathering spot
Kerropi was my fav 💚 that Sanrio store brought me back 20 years 😅🥲🩷
Definitely good memories. I loved Sanrio when I was younger!
Kahala mall was my haunt back in 1980! I just love your channel!!
Yes, I've heard so many memories from Kahala Mall!
I live in Ewa Beach. I think the last time I went to Kahala Mall WAS in the late 90's! :)
Haha, nice!
Shout out to KAHALA Mall. Tots the leaf print dress. The travel to the restrooms remind me of going to the subway. So fun to have Sanrio Surprises still available to shop. Thank you for showcasing this gems of a mall.
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Oh yes, that was THE Mall (Hilltop) and Sunvalley Mall in Concord too. The good ol' days!!!
I love malls!!!❤❤❤
👍👍
I love the carpet as well.
Reminds of the iconic 🤩 green carpet at MCO Orlando Airport.
Love a good carpet! 🤓
I still try to buy most stuff at stores, if we don’t, towns will just have houses and restaurants.
Good to support local👍
We LOVE coming to this mall because it's not crowded with tourists.
👍
Oh, yes. Mahalo for the memories. Have an amazing day!
Thanks for watching! Have a great day!

Hi Joanna. We miss that mall 💕 Thanks for the update.
God bless 🙏🏽
Fr Sydney Australia,
Lynn
Thanks for watching, Lynn! Sending much Aloha to your and your family in Oz.
When you need to shee shee bad, that long hallway seems to go on forever.
😂😂😂
Isn't that where the faceless lady hung out? 😲
It’s amazing how busy this mall is! Malls on the mainland are dying- Kahala Mall is thriving!
👍🏽👍🏽
@@kellydun465 it’s got my favorite ramen shop, Gomatei! Tan Tan ramen is the best.
(better to go to the restrooms in Macy or the one in the hallway by the theatre) 👍Also, as strange as it may sound, visiting the local malls (Pearlridge, Windward, Ka Makani) can sometimes be a great indicator of the surrounding community. The shoppers are quite different from mall to mall. Watch how they interact with children and adults, how they dress, how they shop (i.e. place things back neatly, etc) A realtor and a potential buyer could pick up quite a lot from visiting local malls. Anyways, just a thought. 😉
Good point about understanding the local community through malls. Grocery stores are likely another good place.
Yay! This was my idea...waiting to see if you hit the rotary sushi place. 🥰
🤓👍🏽
Used to love going to the mall in my town in England back in the day, going to Our Price for my music, Footlocker for sneakers and Depot for my YSL, Versace and Armani, it’s half in ruins now. Can you do a video about Hawaiian sneaker culture please. Awesome video, congrats on the qualification.
Thank you! I'm not that familiar with Hawaiian sneaker culture. Slippers (flip flops) are very popular here.
We had a Skandia down in So Cal too! It was in the Inland Empire
Oh, nice! I went to many birthday parties there
East side is da bes side! Who remembers Woolworths (woolworth’s chicken!), Pioneer chicken, McInernys, Hickory Farms, Liberty house Zooper sale!So many memories… I was really sad when Yami yogurt left but so surprised to find one in Singapore 6-7 years ago I think somewhere in a mall on Orchard Street.
Thanks for watching & sharing the memories!
@@HICARO that’s right, woolworths was next to Longs.
My Sister Manage the Sanrio Store there. How come no one
was in the store. Even her, where she @ 😠 I'm from Maui.
I'm on the Big Isle this whole week vacation. Prince Kuhio
Shopping Mall is all Ol Skool.
They still has Tilt Arcade since the 80's also Spencer's gifts.
& a lot more old skool store still around. Hilo town is completely Ol Skool! Check it
Out! I'm New to your channel!
Keep up the Blogs! You see like a girl who can talk story! 😂
Me too😂 I can go on, & on & on! 😂 Bye! 👋
Thanks for watching, glad you’re here!
Yes we rarely went to Hilltop Mall. It was too rambunctious. I grew up going to Stonestown and Serramonte.
Bay Area mall memories 🤓🤓🤓
That store loves the band the Maine
👍🏽
Hilltop mall had morning glory! Friends of mine went to Claire’s stonestown to get their ears pierced 😬
Yes please create a video of ala moana mall!
I don't recall Morning Glory at Hilltop. Perhaps I blocked memories from that mall after working there though, haha
Thar was the first Jamba Juice on Oahu. They used to use giant Styrofoam cups.
Ah, okay!
@@mrcrhartman the franchise owner used to be the Hawaii Starbucks franchise owner. That’s why they were usually paired together.
Starbucks bought out the Hawaii franchise. We were their test for “international” stores.
Not all of the Bay malls getting their flowers! Hilltop was the spot in the 90s! And by the spot I am confirming there was always something jumping off!🤣🤣🤣
I had to keep it 100. Hilltop was an experience. Whewww... I didn't even mention all the (shoe) stores there. 😂
@@JoannaHopeLai 🤣🤣
the iconic carpet design; Fun Factory is still cool (Kamehameha Shopping Center; it used to be at Pearlridge (Shopping) Mall with Tilt = Phase 2 (Uptown); a newer one Phase 1 (Downtown); Phase 3: 4 plex theaters, military recruitment areas and Toys R Us). Downtown Honolulu: Walmart = Macy's = Liberty House. (Don Quijote = Daiei => Holiday Mart). iykyk. There used to be a Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour at Kahala Mall, I think; (I remember another location, at Pearlridge Mall; now it's an Applebee's); there used to be another Farrell's at Windward Mall too. I wonder if See's Candies is still there. I remember Tower Records/Video (on the 2nd story, above California Pizza Kitchen); Borders Books & Music (is now a Ross Dress For Less branch store). Yes, I still remember seeing the mysterious maze restroom area, right next to two escalators. There is an iconic Jack Lord bust (the original "Hawaii 5-0" tv series, from the 1970's; not the remake (2010-2020) I think there used to be a Blockbuster Video too, on the outside of Kahala Mall (21st Ave. and Hunakai St.; past the Olive Tree Cafe restaurant; in the area where Al Philips the Cleaner was..; by Times Supermarket (fka "Star Markets") ). This video was Hella fun to watch !
Glad you enjoyed the video! Lots of memories!

@@JoannaHopeLai before Whole Foods was a local supermarket called Star Market. I remember the Chinese restaurant called Yen King. Had my high school grad party there. I knew the owner Howard Ko.
Had a Tower Records upstairs near the CPK. I think it’s a church now.
The McDonald’s side I think is technically not part of Kahala Mall but is treated the same by shoppers. There used to be a Bale sandwich shop which I miss.
There was an I Love Country Cafe restaurant too.
This mall is more local than Ala Moana.
@@prst99 thanks for sharing the memories!
Love the videos. I enjoy sharing Hawaii also on my channel. I also interview other TH-camrs that live here in Hawaii or on the mainland, these channels I follow. thanks for watching! Aloha
@@JoannaHopeLai Welcome
I like Kahala Mall. I don’t like that downstairs bathroom though. Feels unsafe. Recently discovered the one by the theatre. Much better.
I’d like to see you do Pearl Ridge. I rarely go there. Thanks for the trip through Kahala Mall. I need to venture around the other parts. Didn’t know they had that boba place 😊
Thanks for watching!
Bayfair mall, Eastmont mall
🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thanks for the Mall Tour ! ;)🥰 Good Luck on the real state referrals Why can't we use you to get a home?? Gina Soules Henderson, NV
Thanks for watching, Gina! Feel free to send me a message if you need a realtor (or connection to one). I'm involved with different parts of the process.👍 hi@joannahopelai.com
I went to 2 different malls 1 mall is gone which is Springhill Mall the other is there which is Woodfield mall. I go to one mall now that is Woodfield mall.
👍🏽👍🏽
I'd rather go to the Kahala mall than Ala Moana anytime. Is jack lord's statue still there? Love your vibe. Happy Aloha Friday! Are you going to fireworks in Waikiki tonight?
Happy Aloha Friday! Thanks for watching
You know what they say, if you can make it at hilltop then you can make it anywhere 😆
😂😂
