    Haha!! Your story brought back so many memories - especially the old "hamdbag" style vinyl cover LOL. I'm sure I had one of them! Plus all. The second hand shops - so relatable... I just don't remember seeing copy Telecasters though - it was always Strats or Les Paul's!! Just bought a JT300 and reviewed a few on my channel actually - and bought a sea foam green JS 300 for my daughter. Unbelievable guitars for the money!! Cool video matey!

    Received mine yesterday and it’s a lovely cream colour like the one you described as the 1978 tele you mentioned. I was very surprised with the quality of the guitar and a beautiful Satin roasted Maple, Nick. I thought the pickups might need upgrading, but they sound fantastic. Definitely a keeper

    One of the pickups has the polarity reversed, so when combined with the other pickup, the noise is eliminated. That's why newer Stratocasters are quiet when the pickups are combined; the middle pickup has the polarity reversed

  • @fri8601
    @fri8601 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Theres less noise with both pickups because the 2 single coils will be wired with one of them in reverse to "buck the hum" like a humbucker does. obviously its not as quiet as a humbucker because they are further apart.

    Very cool. I dig it. The only drawback I can see, and this obviously doesn't apply to every player, is that the black fret dots might be hard to see while gigging in a dark setting. Why not pearloid dots to create more contrast?

    I bought a lefty one of these shortly after buying a white lefty JS-400. I love them both and they're both keepers. The JS-400 was perfectly set up, trem included. Like yours, the action on the JT-300 was a tad high. Five minutes later with the neck relief tweaked and the saddles lowered a bit it was perfect, using the allen leys they provide. I love the colour - lefties usually have black or sunburst. - and it looks fab with an ashtray cover. I've come to prefer top loaded teles because the strings are easier to bend. Good luck on your search.

    Colin, you're the very first unoxing video I've ever watched. Normally, I cut forward to tones etc, but i was doing shit around the kitchen and your vid came up on auto play. Straight into that great story of your first guitar. After that, i had to see your reaction when you opened the box.
    I'm confused, though. On anywhere I've seen Jet guitars, including their site, those are nowhere near 'cream'. Butterscotch, yes. Blonde, maybe. But *definitely not* cream. Anyway, I liked that the music that got you hooked on electric guitar was Tonic For The Troops!
    I was also surprised that you had the 30 quid to pay for the guitar, at 13 years old in 1978? I was 10 then, and my take home pay (before tax) was approx 10 pence. I might even be overestimating that. How the hell did you have 30 quid in your piggy bank at 13, in 1978??!
    My first electric was around 10 years later; it was a Marlin Slammer. Not a bad guitar, if memory serves. But I hated it, cos what I wanted more than life itself, was a black telecaster with a white pickguard. Joe Strummer hooked me on its looks; Keef on its roots, which led me to Muddy Waters and them guys.
    But mine made me, in my mind, Hank bloody Marvin. First, it was a strat copy. Second, it was this dayglo red. Now, of course, I sort of love his sound, but back then...
    And it had a trem. What the fuck was I going to do with that? I wanted punk rock thunder!
    Anyway, I'm *NOT* after a Slammer. But I might get a Jet tele.
    I might even play it.

    • @ColinLPrice
      @ColinLPrice  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the long response and glad you enjoyed the story :-)
      On the colour - I'd seen it described on the Bax Music site as blonde with photo's that looked (to me) like a solid deep cream. Maybe a tint darker than I'd have liked but certainly more cream than yellow. Turned out to be the other way round. Still a great guitar though, just not my colour.
      The 30 pounds I had burning a hole in my pocket was what I'd saved up together with me asking for money instead of a birthday presents from family. It was certainly a lot of money to me back then. After getting the guitar it took me ages to get enough money for a real amp.
      I've never tried a Marlin guitar, but I remember the make was indeed a reasonably good German (?) make. I completely get the idea of the image stress as a teenager with a red Strat instead of a black Tele... as we all know, image is VERY important :-)
      I can certainly recommend the Jet Tele. It's great for the money. Thats if you can find the colour for you. The yellow was just too much banana for me.

    Its a good guitar for a new guitarist but for people like me who have been playing for over 15 years i would need a minimum of a Squier 50s Telecaster , just something around £300 quid mark is what a semi pro player should be aiming for as the really cheap guitars have really cheap electronics inside.

    • @ColinLPrice
      @ColinLPrice  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree on the Squier classic vibe Tele's being better, great instruments, I've tried them too. I think you get certainly get what you pay for in these price ranges. If you go to higher price ranges though, it feels like it gets to a gradient of diminishing returns.
      I'm pleasantly surprised how much you get for some of these low price instruments though. For example I recently got a Harley Benton Jazzmaster copy and have gigged it a few times. It feels good, sounds good, it's light, stays in tune and it looks good. Electronics in it are ok at the moment, I'll be putting a treble bleed mod on the volume pot at some time though. And if anything fails I can replace it when we get that far.

    Never liked the MIM teles, they don't play well for me. Electronics? Providing they already work, new pots, cap etc won't make much difference at all. Yes, new pickups will change the tone, although ceramics should not be written off. They're usually quite powerful and exert less string pull, but do try them at high drive volumes to check they're not microphonic. If they are, you can't fix em'! For a really good set, you're looking at spending more than the guitar is worth! If the guitar resonates well acoustically though, it can be worth it. The buzz is 60 cycle hum common to all single coil guitars when near to an amp etc. Most modern teles are hum cancelling in the middle position though.
