Roger did everything on this one. From bass to guitar, drums and vocals. Freddie Brian and John were at the Pub ! 😊

I can’t even tell you how much I love Rogers voice. It was just as good as ever when I saw him last year. Can’t do the high notes but that’s natural. It’s a really nice little rabbit hole to go into with Rogers music. He plays almost everything on this track I believe.. I think Brian contributes a bit too. Roger is so much more than just a drummer - he’s a great vocalist , songwriter and multi instrumentalist. You are one of the few who react to him and I thank you for that. #rogerrasp

This explains the song "More of That Jazz", written by Taylor, is loop based and Taylor plays most instruments and sings all vocals, reaching some very high notes (peaking on an E5). The outro also contains short clips from many songs on the album, including "Dead on Time", "Bicycle Race", "Mustapha", "If You Can't Beat Them", "Fun It", and "Fat Bottomed Girls".

For a couple more Roger vocals: ROCK IT (Prime Jive). There was a split vote in the band who should sing this Roger written song - so Freddie sang intro, then Roger took over and really Rocked it!! Another beautiful heartbreaking song by Roger is SAY IT’S NOT TRUE (featuring Jeff Beck guitar). It’s Roger mourning Freddie ....🥲 Do the lyric video.

5:28 I think it’s actually Roger playing the guitar on this song, he often played all the instruments on the songs he contributed.
He lost his falsetto at some point between 1978 and 1980
This was the last song on the album and because the album is called Jazz and this song is called More of That Jazz, it includes snippets from all the other songs on the album.

  • @Anisabell2

David, you look a little confused by the end of the video...I know, it's a "Queen surprise" that mixing of bits of other Queen songs. That's one of the many reasons not to put Queen in a box, ever!!!
Roger showing his "dog whistle" in full range (a true treat to be heard, so to speak), singing all the vocals (I think) and saying more of that jazz when he hated the Jazz to begin with...really clever, and somewhat of a sarcastic, I think. How not to love them?

Your face is priceless when you listen to Roger lol 😆. Thank you!!! I've waited a long time for you to react to this song. I think they put all the tracks in at the end as a fun Jazzy artistic thing to do. I watched a recent clip of Adam, Brian, and Roger harmonizing before a concert in 2019, and he still went pretty high in range then, so I dunno if he lost his range entirely. For fun you should try Freddie's "Going Back" it's in "Mother Love" and one of his first recordings.

Great reaction as always, love this song, and as several have said below, the reason why the fuzz guitar stands out is because Roger is playing it, with small cameo's from Brian, Roger was fed up with the same boring music we were fed at the time with no real outlet for bands to showcase to the masses (apart from John Peel on radio 1) - dictated by the music moguls it was all business and no pleasure, (not saying it is any different to now, however, diversity in music exploded around the time this was written) his activity with CND was gaining momentum as well, and was disillusioned with politics - he very much related to the punk/new wave explosion, also experimenting producing different bands the weirder the better - Roger became a prolific song writer as a solo artist from here on in .... it was a great time to be angry teenager....😁😁👍

Thanks for reacting to this great Roger song! Not sure when Roger lost his dog whistle pitch but it didn't appear on any 80s albums. His voice was naturally stronger in the high range than low, though. Live he backed up the higher notes really well. Jazz is about the music business. Replace the word B.S. for jazz and you get the picture. If anyone is buying this CD get the remastered version. Your face when the snippets of songs came in is priceless! This album has a lot of different genres which Queen fans came to expect and love but critics never understood. One of my favourite albums. Here in Canada the albums contained the nude bicyclists but in the U.S. it was banned. lol.

Rodger drop the emphasis on Jazz and one course that is to whisper as to you listen to get the lyrics. He and Eddie were on the same page....Patricia. Freddy would blase is lyrics to call attention..

Don't think he ever lost his falsetto
I think as he's gotten older
He cant reach the high notes
    As well

He lost his falsetto around 1979/80 but his normal singing voice got higher

This song would’ve been even more amazing without the bizarre medley of the Jazz album at the end.
Has anyone ever edited it out?

In a very old comment in the vlyric video someone put a download link withour the medley, I still have it somewhere, it sounds great without it

I’d prefer this song with the medley too - I want to hear Roger sing the entire song with no medley thingy.

Many of Roger’s songs were about political works he felt were unfair to the common man. I’m not sure about this-

If you like the Roger rasp, think you will like Tom Grennan. Check out Sweet Hallelujah live stripped back with just Tom and his guitar th-cam.com/video/B_oG-SV337U/w-d-xo.html
