    I'm a spanish woman, in 1988 I was 12-13 years old.
You have to keep in mind that Spain had just emerged in that time from a very sad and dark political dictatorship, terrible and full of death that lasted 40 years.
And, suddenly, an Olympic Games and all this wonderful magic, color and beauty.
I was just a teenager at the time, but I remember when I first heard this music in 1988, tears came to my eyes.
What a beautiful and hopeful thing!
Montserrat Caballé was the pride of Spain and Catalonia.
She was a great opera diva recognized throughout the world, but despite that she was always nice, affectionate and with a warm soul like the sun.
She was a true great lady.
She and Freddie held each other in high esteem and admiration.
This video clip is so emotional because it exudes sincerity: there was a great real chemistry between the two of them.
I think that now Freddie and Montse are both together in Paradise singing and the angels are silent to listen to them.

Thank you so much for that additional background which we would not have known otherwise. Montserrat said Freddie captivated her and I think the feelings were entirely mutual. What a fantastic chemistry they had. May the both RIP.

Freddie Mercury had been approached by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) to write a song for the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.
And of course, as anyone who has seen Bohemian Rhapsody will tell you Freddie always had a passion for Opera music and Monserrat Caballe was a favourite.
In fact, Freddie was actually quite nervous about performing with her.
But I think that we can all agree that they both superb and the song itself is an iconic reminder of just how great Freddie Mercury really was.

Also to add, that Montserrat Caballé, was a very authentic and very decent lady. Her graceful voice, combined with her charisma and intense personality, radiated sparkling light whenever she spoke (not only in concert, but also in her interviews) - She could speak fluently English, French, Italian, Spanish (mother tongue), Catalan and German.

They really loved each other. She speaks about him in a few interviews, really great & so touching. She was one of the few he told about his health issues, because they worked together during 1987-88, he was diagnosed in 1987. She kept on working with him & .kept his secret. She was also at the dedication of his statue in Montreux, along with his parents ,& Queen. There's a video that shows her speaking with Freddie's mom on.thst occasion.

It's Mike Moran on the piano. He worked on writing this album with Freddie. This album is said to be Freddie's proudest moment, according to Peter Freestone, his loyal personal assistant. Doing this was a big risk for both of them,,,the were the first to combine these two genres. Freddie was absolutely in awe of Montserrat and she totally respected his talent. As you noticed, they were very fond of each other by the time of this performance. Please do Guide Me Home and How Can I go On from the Barcelona album... they are so very simple but beautiful, you wiill love them.

Your the first reactionist to comment about the sweetness of these two, you made me smile and brought a tear at your total emotion of these two. I agree this a time that Freddie could do an operatic journey to fulfill his lifetime love of opera. She was a renound soprano, who Freddie greatly respected and admired. At the92 Olympics held in Barcelona, even though Freddie had passed, he sang on a giant screen as she sang with him. They hopefully are still singing . Thanks for a great reaction.

Freddie always said that he saw himself as a performer and that his job was much more than just singing.
In order to try and demonstrate what I mean by that try and remember Freddie on stage with Bowie during Under Pressure and in between verses Freddie would often throw in many parts which weren't really words but noises like dee-dah and although they don't really seem like much on their own, if you take a step back and look at the whole thing as a performance what he's doing is actually giving the song an extra something.
It just shows Freddie's attention to detail and part of what made him the musical genius and legend that he is.

Montserrat was the best soprano of her time. She said afterwards that it brought many young people to opera and that Freddie was the first to build this bridge between classic and rock. She declined all offers for a similar collaboration that ensued because she felt that nobody could match Freddie and his musicality and their mutual admiration and respect, which gave rise to this unique expression of love.
I haven't come across your reaction to The Golden Boy, which I love. The lyrics were co-written by Tim Rice and I think that in that song one hears Freddie's story and his relationship with Montserrat Caballe. (BTW, the double l is pronounced like the y in yell and the final e is also pronounced.)
You're doing a great job by bringing variety and insights to those fans who have re-re-re-re ......and replayed Freddie/Queen videos.

You're right, there's a line in another language (hers). They sing "por ti seré gaviota de tu bello mar", which means something like "for you I will be a seagull to your beautiful sea". I know it sounds strange in English, it's the kind of poetic thing that you can get away with in Spanish lol.
Montserrat and Freddie have a full song in Spanish in the same album, called Ensueño. I can tell you as a native Spanish speaker myself, Freddie sounds 99.99% perfect in it. At first I couldn't believe it was him. I've heard a lot of non native Spanish speakers sing in Spanish and you can always hear the accent, but in that song you can't. He literally makes one "mistake" in the way he pronounces the letter L once at the end of one word and that is it. He also sings it in his lower range and sounds unbelievable. I recommend you listen to it.

      @HelenaDax 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

Yeah, I noticed it too. His "t" and his vowel sounds are spot on. When I heard Ensueño for the first time, I got the feeling that English wasn't the only language he had spoken in his early childhood.

@@aut0maniak well Montserrat was a highly trained operatic singer. Freddie was a self taught rock singer. It makes sense that it'd be easier for her. Just the fact that he was able to keep up with her in his own way is amazing

      @piegirl02 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@HelenaDax as far as I've been able to find, Freddie spoke a Parsi language as a child, potentially Gujarati, and learned English as a second language. Sometimes the hard "R" sound gives him away. He does unconsciously during Is This The World We Created in Live Aid, I don't remember which word now.

He said in an interview once that he would love to do a song with her. She got the message and her people contacted him telling him that she said yes. Freddie just wanted to do one of his songs and have her voice on it but she wanted to do a whole album so Freddie had to get busy writing because Montserrat only had a few days to record. He did it when he was alive too:) This was a huge hit when it was first released in 1987 and again at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 the year after Freddie died. I was in my 30s then. I've loved Freddie (and Queen) from the age of 19.

This is a beautiful song, and a dream of Freddie's. He was totally in awe of Monserrat, but discovered that she admired him as well.
She was one of the first people he told that he was HIV Positive

...and I discovered this piece was part of the presentations played for those at the April 1992 Tribute for Freddie Mercury, prior to the televised show. I was simply ecstatic learning that. Glad to be able to look at this reaction of yours here in 2022.

This version was recorded with a real orchestra and released in 2012. The original single and album had a synthesised orchestra played almost entirely on keyboards by co-writer and co-producer, Mike Moran, who appears as the conductor in this video.

First of all young sir...Freddie couldn't touch Moneserrat's Operatic Vocals...BUT...Freddie wanted to sing with her. He said she was the best singer in the world. This was a true dream for him. Please don't take my word for it....You can find his interviews. Thank you for reacting to this. I loved FM and QUEEN. BRAVO!!! RIP Freddie & Montserrat❤🙌🏽🙏🏽👑 They did an Entier Opera Album together.

Freddie could sing in different languages... he loved it! There’re a song “ Ensueño”, which he sang with Montserrat.... entirely in Spanish !!!

GOOSEBUMPS DAVID!! 🥲🥲 Freddie put his second solo project on hold to finish this Barcelona album!! A dream come true for Freddie & I’m so happy he got to sing with Montsy on the album!! 🥰 Mike Moran is playing the piano 🎹 They were supposed to sing Barcelona at the Barcelona Olympic Games 1992 but sadly Freddie passed away in 1991. 😩 The whole album is magnificent!! My favorites are THE GOLDEN BOY, FALLEN PRIEST, & GUIDE ME HOME. 💜🌸🌼💜Freddie cleans up pretty good, right? 😍😍

Remember reacting to Exercises in Free Love? Freddie did that to bring to Spain for her during their first meeting. He wanted her to hear what he could do beside rock per se. She actually sang it on stage shortly after surprising Freddie in the audience and then announcing he had wrote it for her.

If you love the little glimpses of appreciation check out George Michael singing Somebody to Love at the Queen tribute concert at Wembley. There's a little moment near the end of the song were George Michael is interacting with the crowd and Brian May comes into the shot just behind George and you catch a smile on Brian's face and it just says it all. Gets me every time...

There's a whole album, which Freddie wrote with Mike Moran and Sir Tim Rice was in there somewhere,Freddie only released a couple of solo albums, likewise so did Dr Brian May and Roger Taylor, nothing from John Deacon,he didn't want a solo career, but Freddie met Montsy as he called her at the Opera in the early 80's and from then on he wanted to see more of her,and then as they say the rest is history
