What really surprised me about this game is that: when it became practically unplayable due to a bug that made it really slow that popped up with a new Windows Version, the developer made a patch to this old game that fixed it. That’s some dedication.
Meanwhile, many major developers would rather people forget about their older releases, leaving the fans to try and keep them alive. This guy is doing God's work.
I've updated the description, but I'll put it here too. Thanks to Hakanai Blue, There is now an English patch available for the game! You can find it here www.shrinemaiden.com/index.php?topic=205.0 and it's super simple to apply, so if you were interested in playing it but hesitant due to the language barrier, then worry no more!
As a fan of both Touhou and the Classic saga of Mega Man, I love that this game exists. The two series truly are two halves of a whole ridiculously-huge-cast-of-magic-shooting-people-that-coexist-with-humans fandom.
The touhou rock maiden series are my favorite megaman styled touhou fangames due to the amount of effort that's put into the spritework and animations. What's interesting to me is the amount of different megaman touhou fangames there are, with rock maiden, megamari, and bakartet being the most recognizable along with many others. I like how the enemy respawn mechanics is faithful to the early megaman games, however I can see how it might be a turnoff to other players. Great job with the video as always and looking forward to more!
Mega Man is also also a franchise with a thriving fan community. Makes sense there'd be a lot of crossover with the fanwork overlord itself. Plus, both franchises are centred on shooting things and reading enemy patterns so it naturally works out.
So first of all, kudos for linking to the Artist of the thumbnail (because apparently, not a lot of people do that) Second, this is quite a informative Video. But not only that, I also would go as far to say that it also works quite well as a guide of how to beat a boss, what its weaknesses is and where to find the upgrade. So yeah... Pretty nice Video. I hope I can expect more. 👍
I see that the puns have arrived over the Houraisan, but at least they we're too Tewirrible. No, I'm not sorry. Great video, by the way. Still haven't played a Mega Man game of any kind myself, but they always looked like fun. If I ever get a computer that I trust to run games, then I might try this series out.
After seeing a let's player play through literally every megaman game with the "defeat boss → get weapon" mechanic (thus excluding Battle Network, Star Force, and Legends) for nearly two years, it's interesting to see how many of the elements in this game parallel megaman mechanics. Since I don't remember a lot in detail, I'm just going to talk about the main 8 bosses and some of the upgrades: 3:16 Rather than Slash Man (7), Youmu here behaves more like Slash Beast (X4). Nevertheless, the resulting Meisouzan is Slash Claw (7) instead of X's Twin Slasher. 4:28 Tenshi's Kaname Funnel being able to take out weak enemies without damaging the shield is a feature I recall on Jewel Satellite (9), but the pieces all being treated as different projectiles is more like Water Barrier (10) or Junk Shield (7), and the launch behavior of flinging the bits straight out matches Junk Shield rather than the spiral from Water Barrier or simply chucking the entire shield forward as most do. 5:20 Cirno being weak to Kaname Funnel probably comes from 7, where Freeze Man was weak to Junk Shield. I'm not sure that Icicle Fall is directly based on any existing megaman weapons (though there are certainly plenty that don't come to mind immediately), other than perhaps the screen-wide weapons. It does remind me of something from a completely different game, namely Distorted Travesty 3, though. 6:30 Aya's Tenguoroshi is clearly based on Tengu Man's Tornado Hold, as you brought up, but it also reminds me of Storm Eagle's Storm Tornado (X1), just vertical instead of horizontal. I just realized how similarly the two bosses fight; diving at you and using whirlwinds to cause a ring out. 7:00 The Magic Broom is not nearly as useful as Rush Jet in 3 due to the inability to steer the thing, but seeing as Rush Jet was nerfed from 4 onwards to _also_ be completely unsteerable, the comparison is apt. Does this mean Marisa is Dr. Light? (fitting, given her laser-based attacks....) 8:05 Imperishable Shooting looks like it could be a shield weapon but isn't large enough to cover you, and doesn't stick around anyway; it looks to be an aimable Scorch Wheel (7). 10:33 There's some nice attention to detail in that it can light up dark areas, a feature that was present in the original weapon. As for the boss, wasn't Heat Man (2) also invincible while on fire? 9:00 Patchouli grants a Mercury version of the Bubble Lead (2). I wonder if the fact that this is her Metal & Water Sign spellcard instead of just her water bubbles is meant to be based on the ambiguity in pronouncing Bubble Lead: Patchouli leads the fight with immediate water bubbles, but Reimu tosses bubbles of lead (Pb) instead. I doubt she'd appreciate your fire weapon burning her library books. 10:10 Utsuho, like Pharaoh Man (4), has some sun theming in her weapon, as Nuclear Excursion behaves just like Pharaoh Shot. This one is a lot more expensive to charge though, giving you some ammo woe. 10:50 Remi's pattern and energy drain attack are almost exactly Shade Man's (7); fitting given their vampiric traits. It looks like Spear the Gungnir takes very little energy to fire but can't be aimed, making it like the Laser Trident (9), especially if it pierces enemies even without the piercing upgrade. If you can stomach doing her stage and boss fight early, it might even be viable as a "replacement buster" just like the Laser Trident. 11:48 Shanghai/Beat can't be beat! Or they can, if they decide to drop you in another pit (or the _same_ pit, if you can't get out). Shanghai appears to carry you higher up than Beat does before letting go though 13:33 Ah, Rush Search. Who knew dogs and mice made such great farming utensils?
As someone who haven't played any of these fangames, these videos give good insight and turn to be quite interesting. Nice work! Hope you get to play the sequels to see if they improved on them or not
Great job with the new video! I’ll try and give this game a shot, but unfortunately i’m not too good at megaman games. Seems like this fangame is just as difficult so hopefully I can make it through!
It was cool looking through all the bosses, level layouts, and patterns straight up taken from the actual megaman games Final bosses being the megaman 2 dragon, megaman 1 final boss and it's final phase straight up the megaman 7 capsule Edit: just realized the weapons were from the actual games too, neat
Fun fact: the doujin circle that made this game also made Rockmen R, a fangame starring Roll that Capcom forced them to take down because they were selling it for money. Not only did they have the balls to leave it free to download on their website, but _they apparently made a sequel._
Pretty much every platforming Mega Man game lets you scroll back enemies on screen. If they become a problem, it's usually an issue with the enemy placement rather than with the mechanic itself. Seems it's also the case with this game.
I would find it interesting if Patchouli wad the one that struggled against your normal shot because of her physical weakness in general Also Kaguya most likely is weak against Okuu's Weapon because she is a Moon Princess and Okuu is the Sun
Anyone have any idea what keys are used for the controls?? I finally got the game to run properly, only to be stuck on the title screen with no way out- none of the keys work.
Man the obscurity for some of those power ups. The type of game analyzed for this vid. may not be my cup of tea but the information presented is well organized along with the scene edits imo. ~~I like. Kagura is definitely a copycat lol, fandom has me believing she’s some lazy bum.
That respawn distance is pretty or for the course for Megaman, especially outside of the classic series due to less use of the “screen” style level layout. Looks awesome though, definitely one I want to try!

Just wanted to comment that you are the only western TH-camr I know who actually pronounces the names correctly! Appreciate and Subbed

My personally favorite is takkoman, controls and movement feels real fresh and i love the concept, easily most badass main character in any game

pharaoh shot also was the wily capsule's weakness in 4
16:11 I guess Dr. Wily is two people now: Eirin is the doctor and Kaguya is wily one.
17:15 And here we have the teileporter room
Chen's playing with a ball, so fucking adorable
Great video, love your thoroughness
Great fan game, great analysis, I would have never gotten past Tewi but kudos for beating her with 1 HP dang!
I love your videos, they're nice, long and formulaic, very nice to watch when eating dinner
I find I funny that of all the bosses, Mokou is the only one that suffers from Spark Mandrill Syndrome.
As someone who haven't played any of these fangames, these videos give good insight and turn to be quite interesting. Nice work! Hope you get to play the sequels to see if they improved on them or not

I'd bet good money that Kaguya was just stealing the donations because she was bored and wanted to have some fun fighting Reimu.
Thanks for introducing me to this game
1:41 hmm, the scent of roasted Reimu!
If a game genre exists, there is probably a Touhou game for it
When a Mega-man style Touhou Game actually looks pretty good, XD
It was cool looking through all the bosses, level layouts, and patterns straight up taken from the actual megaman games

I love how absolutely megaman this is, as a touhou fan I'm shocked i never found out about this game, I MUST play this asap

Wow. Imagine flying close to the sun, except actually landing on it and giving it the middle finger because you were only somewhat burnt.
Make sure to cover MegaMari as well, it's translated and has great OST
So Remillia is basically Mega Man 7s Shade man in terms of AI :P
Ah, respawning enemies. Baka Quartet X had that issue too. Is it a thing in Megaman too?
Depends on what Megaman you’re playing, some handle it better than others. The first 3 are brutal with them

Wow this game sounds intense lol
Hi Megapig9001
@@yousefslimani99 hi; did you see the video I made for you?
@@Megapig9001 No I Didn't
Give me the link to see it
@@yousefslimani99 it’ll get auto deleted from TH-cam’s filter but you can probably just find it by checking my uploads
Looks like an old version of Luna nights

I cannot believe that utsuho isn't the protagonist
When i saw this i thought looked familiar then i released its just rockmen r
You heard of Megamari? Its pretty good.
The Video Subtitle is not Right When I Choose auto translate for English

Hello friend, you know where I can download it, I go to the page and it won't let me
Ugh, I bought physical copies of 1-3 and I can't run the bloody games. How the hell do you run these?
Huh. I knew about MegaMari, but not this one.
no translation? it is unfortunate, but what can you do.
actually, a couple days after the video went up, an English translation was done up. All the info is in the description
Those puns are horrible... feel ashamed...
